Increased Hunger After Raising Dose to 8mg

4 replies4 peopleJan 12, 2026☆ Follow
Summary

Does raising retatrutide to 8 mg weekly cause stronger hunger and sweet cravings, and does the effect fade?

Users report that the glucagon component at 8 mg often revives sweet cravings that were absent on semaglutide or tirzepatide. Some find the increase temporary and resolve by holding the dose longer or adding cagrilintide, while others drop back to 6 mg to restore appetite control. Weight may stay stable or rise slightly even with the extra eating, especially when muscle gain is also occurring.

I followed a steady increase schedule drawn from studies and reached 8 mg each week. The usual side effects like bubblies got a little stronger, which I expected, but I also started feeling hungrier. It feels more like my head is pushing me toward sweets because it thinks that will settle things down. Has anyone else seen this and does it settle over time?

I see you are using reta. Was it the first one you tried? I began with sema, moved to tirz, and stayed at goal weight for more than a year. I tried reta for twelve weeks before going back to tirz. My sweet tooth disappeared on the first two but came back on reta, though milder now. Even with more hunger and sweets I have kept the same weight, after an initial small gain. Are you still dropping weight?

The glucagon part of reta can trigger real hunger and sugar cravings. At 8 mg I wanted all the sugary foods and ate a lot of them, so I went back down to 6 mg. Appetite control is good again at the lower amount.

I had the same experience. I kept 8 mg for six weeks, then moved to 10 mg on the seventh week and the hunger settled. Adding cagri also helped.

My weight has moved up a couple of pounds but I have also been lifting and adding muscle, so it is hard to separate the two. I started with sema and switched to reta after about a month. Everything was fine until I reached 8 mg. It almost feels like my body noticed the loss and is trying to recover now.
