Semaglutide vs. Tirzepatide side-effects

17 replies9 peopleJul 28, 2026β˜† Follow
Summary

Do people switching from semaglutide to tirzepatide notice fewer side effects, and how should dosing be handled during the switch?

Most users report noticeably milder side effects on tirzepatide than semaglutide, including less nausea, fatigue, and GI issues. Those who switched after several months on sema often start tirz at 2.5 mg and titrate slowly while monitoring blood-level buildup over weeks. Individual responses vary, but the consensus is that tirzepatide produces both greater weight loss and fewer adverse effects overall.

How quickly to increase tirzepatide dose when coming from a moderate semaglutide dose without triggering side effects.

Nothing here is advice.

If anyone has moved from Sema over to Tirz, have the side effects been stronger or milder on the new one??

PlainSignal90archiveJul 28

I have not used sema myself, but the weight-loss studies indicate tirz produces markedly fewer side effects overall. A few people claim they tolerate sema better, yet that seems uncommon.

PlainCompass54archiveJul 28

The side effects aren't as bad now. Those ongoing slight queasiness, rotten burps, sudden hiccups, unpredictable loose bowels, tiredness, and similar stuff have all stopped.

This morning I began the 2.5 milligram Tirz dose after spending three months on Sema with my weight dropping only about ten pounds total. I'm hoping the switch to Tirz turns out more effective. Just twenty pounds remain before I hit my target and stop. Fingers crossed it goes well.

I've taken both the 2mg sema dose and the 15mg tirz amount, and tirz clearly brings about fewer unwanted reactions. That said, the reactions from sema also lessened quite a bit once the opening couple of months passed.

This morning at half past eight I gave myself the initial Tirz injection and felt no unwanted effects whatsoever. Previously while taking Sema the injection day often caused tiredness and soreness in muscles throughout the first full day yet nothing like that happened with Tirz. I didn't feel sick to my stomach at all either. After three months of Sema use I am thinking about whether to begin with five milligrams of Tirz as opposed to two point five.

I find the lowest tirzepatide amount keeps unwanted reactions minimal, though it really hinges on the prior semaglutide quantity someone took. Coming from the highest sema level, moving directly to double the tirz amount seems quite low risk for most. People often report milder reactions even at the top tirz level compared to that sema dose, yet beginning there isn't something I'd jump into right away. When hunger stayed high and the scale didn't move, raising the amount gradually every couple weeks worked okay after a solid sema run. For those coming off smaller sema quantities, spacing increases further apart like monthly follows the usual pattern. These meds both hit their highest concentration after a full day, meaning side effect checks come the next day. Tirzepatide generally shows fewer stomach issues overall versus semaglutide while delivering greater fat reduction, since the extra hormone action offsets some GLP-1 downsides and boosts the loss effect.

Previously I was taking one milligram of sema. Yesterday I tried two point five milligrams of tirz yet hardly noticed much at all. Now I'm thinking about moving up to five milligrams of tirz the week after instead of repeating the two point five dose.

Knowing concentrations keep climbing across a full month even without any change in amount makes the whole process seem low risk to me. A chance of surprise reactions still exists though. In general a single milligram of the first option tends to trigger stronger stomach problems than five milligrams of the second one. Starting with no issues at the lowest amount points to higher amounts probably staying manageable. Moving straight up to the next step right away feels like a bad move. I would hold at the current level for two or three weeks only when everything stays fine otherwise taking the full month.

My idea is to increase the amount to five milligrams in the upcoming week. After that I would continue with five milligrams across four weeks and only increase to seven point five milligrams during week five.

The four-week span comes down to basic calculations instead of anything special. Since the main trio share elimination periods of five to seven days, after two weeks the level sits at seventy-five to eighty-six percent of equilibrium. The third week brings that to eighty-eight through ninety-five percent, while four weeks reaches ninety-four to ninety-eight percent. When shifting away from the coarser first option toward the smoother second one, repeated tiny amounts let me build exposure quickly in a controlled manner to judge results or reactions. I used that method when moving from five milligrams of the smoother option across to the third compound, and it supported my targets with almost no notable downsides.

Well, which one are you thinking I ought to try instead??

I go with enough to get the intended effect but can't increase it due to the drawbacks.

I might stick with this dose level to track my results over the coming weeks and later consider extending that for a full month at least.

I've kept my dose as low as it still worked while the pounds kept dropping. Only stepped it higher after several weeks with no movement on the scale. My doctor signed off on that plan though he's mostly looking out for the insurance side of things. That's where things stand for me now after about nine months.

Started this dose ten days back and the negatives have eased up quite a bit. Shed 1.3 pounds so far and can tell my midsection is slimming quicker now πŸ‘

I dealt with almost no side effects when taking sema or tirz.
