Summary

How should people on GLP-1s like Reta or Tirz handle the final stretch to goal weight and then shift into maintenance?

Users describe dropping to lower doses, staying on a reduced amount indefinitely, or tapering slowly rather than cycling off completely. Several note that their set point can shift over time and that maintenance often requires ongoing small adjustments based on weekly averages instead of daily fluctuations. Most emphasize balancing the medication with lifting, cardio, and protein intake while avoiding overly rapid loss that leaves them looking gaunt.

People who have hit or nearly hit their target, what steps did you take afterward? Stop the shots entirely or keep a smaller amount going? After 4mg of Reta the weight came off quickly and now I'm only five pounds away. A woman at the gym looks completely different and too thin to me after her time on these meds, so I want to slow down and maybe skip an injection for a while.

I just took half my usual tirz amount. I miss how the full dose felt but I don't want to drop any more weight.

Will those last five pounds really change much for you? Why not reach the goal first and then figure out maintenance? I realize five pounds is a bigger percentage when you're close, but even so I could probably put that on in one day with extra pizza.

I'll stay on a low dose for the rest of my life. That's what I'm doing now even though I'm still fifty pounds from goal. Once I can see all my abs I'm finished. Bill

True, it's not much. I should have said I'm 5'1" and have fought to lose those last ten pounds my whole adult life, so it feels bigger to me. 🀣

LevelThistle44archiveMay 24

Once I reach my target range I'll lower the dose. I don't plan on cycling off because that seems like a bad move after losing ninety to a hundred pounds. I won't worry about getting the maintenance amount perfect right away. Drop it, watch what happens, tweak as needed. My goal is a range, not one exact number, and I'm fine letting weight move a little while I settle in. Track daily but adjust using moving averages instead of daily ups and downs.

These abs of mine feel more like a legend than reality lately. Really just hoping to peer down and catch sight of my feet again. Moving forward in little ways. πŸ™‚

I hit goal and stayed at 7.5 mg for a few months, then dropped to 5 mg of tirz for two weeks. Last night I had pretzels with cheese dip and m&ms so I took 7.5 mg again. I started wanting snacks like the old days. The only reason I didn't gain during those two weeks was getting menopause sorted, but if the snacking continues I don't know where I'll end up. I'm staying at 7.5 for now since I don't feel like snacking today. Maybe that's my maintenance level and I'll try 5 mg more gradually.

I think it's best to balance cardio, stretching, and weight lifting when dieting or losing weight. The tricky part is learning how much your body can handle. Everyone is different and has their own struggles.

I'm working on that ab goal too. About forty pounds away from ab to abbbssss, ha ha.

My goal weight is under 200 lb. I want to see abs in any lighting, which probably puts me around 180-190 lb based on DEXA and body-fat projections. I'm at 226 lb now after starting at 282 lb twenty-three weeks ago. Goals feel like pass/fail to me while targets are something you aim at and see how close you get.

PlainAnchor17archiveMay 24

I hit my fat-loss goal a while back and now I'm just trying to recomp and get abs. I'll get as thin and jacked as I can naturally, then start steroids and get even more jacked.

On that natural Reta, right? 🀣 Same here, plus some natty TRT.

PlainAnchor17archiveMay 24

I lost my natty card before I even started lifting by abusing addys and using an albuterol inhaler for mountain climbs. What even counts as natty anymore with all the stuff we eat.

Are you noticing that the Reta helps with recomp?

100%. I'm on 4 mg a week split into two doses on Sunday and Wednesday. Just enough to quiet food noise and stop the drinking. I can focus on hitting my macros and getting 200 g of protein. I could still eat way more than most people but I simply don't want to anymore.

I've kept my weight stable for over a year on 5 mg of Tirz every three days. Lately my body has started drifting a bit below my 150 lb set point, sometimes down to 147. I've been watching it so it doesn't go too low, but after a year at that schedule it seems to be working fine.

Interesting how the set point can shift over time. Thanks for sharing that.

Same here, getting closer and won't stop myself. Down 42 lb with maybe 10 left to go.

SlowKettle77archiveMay 25

I hit goal and am tapering off slowly. I got tired of being in a deficit and want my body to adjust to this new weight as normal, so I'm going back to maintenance calories for a few months and then reassessing. Right now I just want to hit the gym and play sports without a deficit. I'll probably try another recomp in about four months.
