How quickly did you notice effects?

23 replies21 peopleSep 27, 2026☆ Follow
Summary

How soon after the first low dose of retatrutide do people notice appetite changes or side effects?

Responses vary widely: some feel appetite suppression, fullness, or mild nausea within a few hours of 1 mg, while others report nothing until the dose rises. Effects often appear within 24 hours for responders and can include reduced food noise or digestive discomfort that fades after the first week. Slow titration from low starting doses is common, and biology determines whether useful effects or sides show up at all.

Just gave myself the opening 1 mg shot of reta and it is my first time injecting any peptide. Wondering whether effects are likely to show up this week and what others noticed right at the start. I know levels keep climbing for about four weeks.

Reactions differ a lot between people. At 1 mg I noticed changes the following day and by the end of the week food stopped triggering the same reward response. I have increased very gradually across six months and now sit at 7 mg, with no plans to exceed 9 mg. Someone I work with reached 12 mg, lost weight, yet never saw much change in food noise. Everyone’s biology runs differently.

It depends on several factors, mostly the individual. My first 2 mg dose produced effects inside an hour. Some people get bad constipation from 2 mg while others get the opposite. Hopefully the only thing noticed is mild appetite reduction and little beyond that.

I have stayed on 1 mg for three weeks while also using 4 mg of tirz on Mondays and reta on Friday mornings. No big side effects, though Saturdays feel more tiring. The last two Saturdays involved long days outside in the heat, so that might explain it, but the fatigue feels noticeable.

Appetite dropped sharply within 24 hours along with bad indigestion. Started at 2 mg which proved too much, then dropped to 1 mg and had no further problems.

Began with 0.25 mg every third day to ease in. Felt something in under 12 hours. Lost 20 lb without ever going above 1 mg every third day. Only side effect was resting heart rate rising 8 bpm.

Both the helpful effects such as lower hunger and the unhelpful ones like nausea vary a lot between people. The only way to know what a dose will do is to try it. At 1 mg there is roughly a 50/50 chance of noticing anything. I began reta while already on 15 mg tirzepatide so my results will not translate. The first clear change I saw with ozempic was getting full after roughly half the usual amount of food. Blood levels keep rising for four weeks after any increase, and misunderstanding that causes many issues. Starting below the usual 2 mg beginning dose means there is probably little risk moving to 2 mg after a week or two with zero effects, but only if nothing at all is felt. Any side effect at one dose will intensify if the dose goes up. From watching this forum it seems leaner people often respond more strongly to lower doses.

Started at 1 mg and felt as though I had just eaten within about three hours even though I had not. When my mom tried 1 mg she felt nothing; at 2 mg she noticed it the next day.

Began with 0.5 mg in the evening and had no food cravings the next day. Cravings returned around day five or six so I injected every six days. After three weeks moved to 1 mg and have stayed there. No side effects so far and 7.5 kg lost in five weeks.

Felt it within a few hours. It was 2.5 mg of tirz and produced strong nausea plus bad heartburn. The strength of the effects surprised me.

Took the first 1 mg dose yesterday morning. Mild manageable nausea waves started about three hours later. Little interest in food and no real hunger. Today the stomach still feels slightly off, hunger remains low, and a mild headache is probably from cutting caffeine intake in half yesterday.

Started at 2 mg and felt it the next day; my wife noticed the same timing.

How long did it take to drop those 20 lb?

RustTimber42archive1d

Felt the 1 mg dose about two hours after the first injection and then had no hunger for two days. When minor hunger returned, meals filled me up much faster than before.

Started slowly with 0.5 mg the first week. Appetite dropped right away, felt full sooner, lost interest in sweets and salty snacks, and unexpectedly stopped wanting the usual nightly beer. Increased over time to 2.25 mg twice weekly and held there for about five months while losing over 40 lb. In the past month appetite and some cravings have returned but I have resisted them so far. Replaced one weekly reta dose with 1 mg tirz and plan to raise it gradually to quiet the food noise again. Reluctant to raise reta further. The habit of avoiding junk and beer seems likely to stick. New users should add regular resistance training and solid sleep habits if not already doing so, since reta can cause muscle loss along with fat.

That does not match what I have read. Weight loss on GLP-1 medicines does not cause a disproportionate drop in muscle mass.

Took 1 mg in the morning. Appetite suppression began four to six hours later. Felt a little nauseous at the twelve-hour mark. Woke at dawn with a racing heart and resting heart rate stayed higher all day. The next two days brought ongoing mild nausea, elevated resting heart rate, and tiredness. By day five sides eased and a bit of food noise returned while energy improved. Day six felt normal except for sweet cravings. This pattern occurred only the first week. The second week was similar but I raised the dose to 2 mg. By the third week sides faded and workouts resumed. The same cycle repeated when the dose went to 3 mg in week five.

Started at 0.5 mg and noticed less interest in food within about an hour. Increased by 0.25 mg each week. At 1 mg suffered a bad bout of constipation that took two weeks to manage with half a teaspoon of miralax every other day plus fiber when not too full. Reached 2 mg after two months and plan to stay there until it stops working. Might qualify as a hyper-responder.

Started at 2 mg. Only at 4 mg a couple months later did I notice a sunburn-like skin sensation, slightly harder sleep, and higher resting heart rate, yet still no real appetite suppression. Had to add tirz to handle food noise.

Also began with 1 mg of reta. Never needed to raise it because usual hunger signals were nearly gone within 24 hours.

Doctor wanted 5 mg of tirz but I tried 2.5 mg first. GLP effects usually take a day or so to appear for me and I had what felt like extreme acid reflux or vomiting on the second night. Even at 2.5 mg for four weeks food noise stayed down and smaller portions left me full. Extreme sides have faded, partly from getting used to it and partly from KPV and BPC helping gut health. Recently split-dosing 5 mg reta with 5 mg tirz for six to eight weeks with no issues from the reta. Started reta at 2 mg and added to it every week or two, now at 5 mg for about four weeks. Increase the dose only while burping and a slight throat feel remain mild; that is the sign the current dose is right.

Lost the 20 lb in roughly ten weeks. Reta worked well at very low doses during that period. At the ten-week point severe nausea appeared without any dose increase, so I switched to tirz at low doses for maintenance.

It depends on how “disproportionate” is defined. My smart scale showed about 12 lb of the first 31 lb lost on reta was lean mass, though its accuracy is questionable. Three weekly resistance sessions probably limited some of that loss. Other sources indicate noticeable muscle loss occurs with GLP medicines just as with other rapid weight-loss approaches, but it stands out more because of the speed. The positive side is that more fat than muscle is lost overall, so body composition improves and the muscle percentage ends up higher than before starting.

Started 1 mg Saturday morning. Felt normal until lunch when fullness came much sooner yet I still ate a relatively normal amount. Dinner and Sunday followed the same pattern with slightly stronger fullness on Sunday. Still reached the 2,000-calorie target because as a bigger person I do not want to go lower right now. The dose is clearly working since 3,000-plus calories used to be easy and hunger would remain. I like keeping some baseline food noise because it helps me remember protein and water goals. The urge to snack right after a meal is gone and everything feels manageable so far. Curious how the rest of the week will go.
