There's a sliding shield over the exposed tip so you can insert it while avoiding any sight of the sharp bit. That's basically all there is to it. I picked these up because I figured I would rather not look at the needle, but then I started worrying about whether it was actually placed right and just removed the cover instead.

I'm following your lead here. The injection devices for tirz and klow showed up yesterday evening while the filters should get here later today. I can hold off on the tirz device for several weeks since I'm still finishing a compounded vial and don't want to waste a cartridge on just three shots, though everything is set for the KLOW vial now.

Remember to include the cooled writing tool container that runs on usb power together with a sun charged spare cell for hauling everything across remote backcountry trails. Word is that's the method some old scout used to maintain their shape.

They won't include needles since that raises issues with shipping. The open versions have a spring mechanism so you can leave the needle attached and just press to inject without seeing it, but they stay exposed. That's the reason I stuck with the sealed design. I'm storing the pens in the fridge inside a bag rather than a special case because the whole setup turned out larger than I pictured.

You might not be going deep enough. A longer needle could help with that particular compound.

From what others have said it sounds like the short needle is the issue. A longer one is worth testing. I switched to 8 mm for that compound and some people recommend even longer.
