Split Dose vs Single Weekly Dose for Retatrutide: Experiences and Dosages

43 replies27 peopleFeb 8, 2026☆ Follow
Summary

Is splitting retatrutide doses better than single weekly injections for managing side effects and appetite suppression, and what dosages are people using?

Users report mixed experiences with splitting doses versus weekly injections of retatrutide. Some find splitting reduces highs and lows in appetite and side effects, while others prefer weekly for convenience and note similar or better results. Dosages range from 2mg to 12mg per week, with many settling around 4-8mg. Individual responses vary greatly regarding food noise, side effects like cold sensitivity or skin issues, and weight loss progress.

Just to start a discussion, who here splits their doses and who takes them all at once? What total milligrams are you on? I tried splitting before and noticed fewer ups and downs, but switched to single doses for simplicity. I'm at 4mg now, and the trials don't show much extra benefit past 6mg, just more sides. What about everyone else?

LevelThistle44archiveFeb 8

I split into two shots for 7mg total each week. I broke up my switch from Tirz to Reta over 17 days with two 4mg shots before settling at 3.5mg. Almost no sides except some cold sensitivity that isn't bad. My highest was 9.7mg. The 4mg shots three days apart cut appetite too much, so I dropped to 3.5mg.

I've never used Tirz. How does it compare to Reta? Do you notice anything besides reduced hunger?

LevelThistle44archiveFeb 8

For me Tirz cut hunger and food noise. It was fine, but Reta's results lined up better with what I wanted.

GreyPebble44archiveFeb 8

I've been testing what works for me since starting Reta in Sept 2025. I've split from the beginning and stayed with it. At 6mg split it has gone well with less food noise, good appetite control, and steady fat loss. I tried switching to once weekly for three weeks after hearing about possible sleep benefits, but hunger and food noise increased along with cravings, though weight stayed the same. Sleep issues didn't change due to my shift work. I'm going back to splitting 6mg because it works better. Lesson learned: stick with what suits you.

WarmMarble27archiveFeb 8

When people mention splitting 6mg, I assume they mean two 3mg shots, not two full 6mg ones. With a six-day half life, splitting might not be necessary. Peak concentration hits between 12-72 hours, so redosing then could mean hitting max levels again. Maybe dosing again on day five or six makes more sense if hunger returns late in the week, though tracking gets tricky with shifting days.

SteadyQuill55archiveFeb 8

I don't split Tirz, but I started splitting Survo by mistake. I pinned four days after the first shot by accident and noticed slight nausea, no interest in food for three days, and some weight drop when progress had slowed. That led me to try it on purpose.

WarmWillow76archiveFeb 8

I just pin every six days. Switching from Tirz to Reta has been okay with a small rise in hunger only before meals, which is manageable. I was on 10mg Tirz and started Reta at 2.5mg.

GreyPebble44archiveFeb 8
↳ replying to @WarmMarble27

Yes, 3mg twice a week. Hope my earlier post didn't sound like I meant two 6mg shots. I don't want to go that high.

BlueTimber78archiveFeb 8

I've split Reta since the start. Now trying to settle on a maintenance dose around 2-3mg per week. Next shot will be 2.5mg every five days.

QuietBeacon52archiveFeb 8

Started Reta almost a month ago at 1mg once weekly. The studies say six-day half life, but food noise returned on day four for me. I added another 1mg split the next week and now pin Sunday and Thursday evenings. That has worked well at 3mg total split as 1.5mg each time. Every four days would be more precise, but fixed days are easier. This is just my experience.

I've tried both. Used Tirz for five months with no weight loss. Added Reta slowly while dropping Tirz. Started splitting and went as high as 6mg twice a week for 12mg total. Appetite dropped too much and protein intake suffered. Only sides were feeling cold and runny nose. Backed off, skipped two weeks, then tried 6mg once every six days, increasing 1mg every four weeks up to 8mg. Sides were worse on single dosing, including constipation and calf itching. Back to splitting now. Lost 62 pounds over 16 months with 20 more to go. It's been slow but effective for me as an older person with Hashimoto's.

I split at first because I researched it heavily, even reaching out to lead researchers. I thought it was better and that weekly dosing in studies was just for convenience. I've changed my mind and now do weekly. It's what the studies used, and I came across info suggesting the steady drop over the week might help with receptor response. A Semaglutide paper helped convince me, though I'd need to find my notes.

QuietTimber26archiveFeb 8

I'm doing 4mg every 84 hours. Sides are basically nonexistent, unlike the rough time I had on 12.5mg Tirz. Hunger starts around hour 72 but stays manageable.

KeenCompass55archiveFeb 8

I'm on 7mg every six or seven days depending on schedule. I only split during the first two weeks, so can't really compare long term.

Hey, I'm here to learn. It wasn't meant as a firm statement, just my current understanding. Would appreciate if you could explain the math so I get it better. Thanks.

I've read about receptors getting desensitized over time, which fits. It also explains why studies show weight loss slows after the first 16-18 months even for those with more to lose. Makes sense to increase dose and push harder early on to maximize loss in that window.

BrightLantern56archiveFeb 8

I switched from every three days to once weekly about two months ago. Reta caused some early sleep issues, so I worried about bigger spikes from weekly shots, but it's been fine. Glad I switched because weekly is simpler and weight loss continues at a good rate. Splitting might still help if sides are an issue for you.

QuietBeacon52archiveFeb 9
↳ replying to @WarmMarble27

I split because I notice a drop on day four, not day six like the trials. Splitting reduces sides for me and keeps levels steadier with fewer highs and lows. I used an image to help decide on the switch. If weekly works for you that's great, but if you see a drop there are other options.

QuietTimber26archiveFeb 9

For anyone interested, check this out from GLP-1 Plotter. The top graph shows 8.75mg Tirz every 84 hours and the bottom is 17.5mg Tirz every seven days. Split peaks aren't as high but valleys aren't as low either. My partner does this and it keeps more consistent levels while reducing the post-shot side effect problems she gets with weekly.

This is really interesting. Thanks for sharing those ratios. I do feel a big dip between days five and seven but have just pushed through with more hunger. I had read splitting more than once a week was pointless. Going to calculate a day five redose. Cheers.

I just use fixed days like Sunday and Thursday nights because it's easier to track. Every four days would be more even but set days work better for my schedule. There's lots of different approaches out there. Do what fits you best.

CopperSignal27archiveFeb 9

In my experience sides link to peak levels around 24 hours after dosing. With Semaglutide nausea was very noticeable and the only way I could go above 0.5mg weekly was 0.22mg every two days with tiny increases. Switched to Tirzepatide six months ago and stayed on twice daily out of habit, with far fewer sides at 4.5mg every two days equaling 15.75mg weekly. On Reta I'm at 1.4mg every two days on top of Tirzepatide, and even 0.2mg bumps cause skin sensory symptoms so I can't increase. I'm in a unique spot after losing 90 percent of my weight and want max hunger control to maintain. Splitting helps control sides.

I noticed skin sensitivity with Reta at 3.5mg. At 4mg I just pushed through and it has dropped a lot over two to three weeks, though still a bit there. Interesting report, and good point about quicker dose adjustments. I'm thinking about trying split dosing going forward. Thanks.

WarmMarble27archiveFeb 9

I imagine lower peaks make it easier to keep protein intake up, and lower troughs help keep food noise and hunger down. Good info. Thanks.

WarmAnchor49archiveFeb 9

I like the GLP plotter tool and used it my first year. I split Tirz twice weekly for up to 20mg total. Later backed down and added some Sema two to three days after the Tirz shot, which helped appetite. Added a bit of Cagri for energy too. Now in maintenance on all three, stretching to every eight or nine days. Started at 250, now at 140 after 2.5 years. Interesting to hear everyone's different experiences.

CopperSignal27archiveFeb 9

Skin sides seem to vary a lot. Many say it fades after a while. I had it briefly when increasing Tirzepatide and it went away. With the Reta plus Tirz combo I'm getting it more, enough to bother sleep even on normal dose, and small Reta bumps make it worse. Splitting allows faster adjustments but you still need caution because each new same-size dose will raise the peak for about four doses until steady state. Using the plotter helps since blood levels aren't intuitive with these drugs due to slow absorption and long half life.

QuietTimber26archiveFeb 9

GLP plotter is a great tool. I'm not telling anyone what to do, just sharing my experiences and listening to others. We should use every tool available to gather data for better decisions, and this fits that.

GreyKettle56archiveFeb 9

Been on Tirz over a year at 7.5mg twice a week. This nearly removed sides and kept food noise even. Levels stay steadier and allow higher total dose with fewer sides if needed. At goal now and maintaining well. Insulin and blood sugar control is good. Dropping to 5mg soon.

WarmMarble27archiveFeb 9

Update on my own experience. Switched to 2mg on Monday and Thursday starting today. Will see how it feels over a few weeks.

WryTimber41archiveFeb 9

I used to split Monday and Thursday but get better results with one 4mg shot every six days now.

WarmHarbour15archiveFeb 9

I do Reta every other day because that's what I prefer and it works. I've tried from 0.5mg every other day up to 3.5mg. Only issue at higher dose was some skin sensitivity and feeling cold, but not bad enough to stop.

RustBeacon82archiveFeb 10
↳ replying to @WarmMarble27

Let us know how it goes. I've been thinking about splitting because food noise picks up around day five.

LevelThistle44archiveFeb 10
↳ replying to @WarmMarble27

It took a bit to find time at a keyboard. I'm more focused on the math and pharmacokinetics than pharmacodynamics. The six-day half life gets talked about a lot online but it's really just an estimate of how long half the compound stays in the system. Dosing closer to a week helps people stick to the schedule. It also lets levels build up. It's useful but not everything. There's a delay from injection to peak levels, and half life means half is gone in that time. I use 24 hours as approximation since it matches my tracking app and fits what I see. The dose starts getting eliminated as it's absorbed, which lowers peaks somewhat.

RustKettle37archiveFeb 10

Pretty new to Reta so still working it out. Started first couple weeks at 1mg total with 0.5mg twice weekly to avoid bad sides. Then switched to 1mg once a week on Mondays. Food noise returns by Friday morning but sleep is still off even after it fades, though I usually sleep well. Let myself eat freely over the weekend including Super Bowl and scale was still down Monday, which was good. Don't have much to lose and want to go slow for skin reasons. On the fence about splitting to 0.75 twice weekly or staying put and allowing weekend eating. Might adjust for sleep or see if adding Tesa/Ipa helps.

KeenCompass55archiveFeb 10

I see people going to great lengths with half life calculations and blood level modeling, but it's really just to justify not wanting appetite or food noise back. I pin every seven days exactly because I want to feel some hunger for a day or two. Keeping receptors flooded constantly doesn't seem ideal short or long term.

RustQuill44archiveFeb 10
↳ replying to @KeenCompass55

Yeah, why do this if not to feel hungry sometimes? I'd rather get the weight off faster and reach maintenance than stretch it out.

KeenCompass55archiveFeb 10
↳ replying to @RustQuill44

Not sure never feeling hungry means faster weight loss. I've lost 63 pounds in 20 weeks doing it my way.

BlueBeacon12archiveFeb 10

Started at three times a week with 1mg per shot, then 1.5mg, then 2mg. Never asked about moving to once weekly and it was working so I kept going. This was before I looked into half life info. Ended up with skin sensitivity that wasn't terrible but not pleasant. Traveled for a few weeks without dosing and it cleared. Starting again I'm using the plotter to match levels with how I feel, aiming for steady amount that controls food noise without much sides. Everyone differs on effective dose, hunger, goals, and sides, so pin frequency is personal.

RustWillow38archiveFeb 10
↳ replying to @IronWillow84 (opening post)

My take is it's about buildup in the system since these GLP-1s have roughly week-long half lives. Example: first 1mg dose leaves 0.5mg active by week's end. Second 1mg adds to that for 1.5mg total active, then half of that plus half the remainder from first, and so on. After four weeks it stabilizes. Reta has the extra glucagon piece that activates above 4-6mg, so splitting might keep baseline lower and affect that. On the other hand, splitting is like sipping instead of gulping and could ease sides when increasing dose. That's how I see it.

AmberWillow76archiveFeb 10
↳ replying to @IronWillow84 (opening post)

I'm interested in this. On 3.5mg Reta after three months on 5mg Tirz, I get stomach acid for 24 hours after each shot. Going up to 4mg this week and thinking about splitting as 2mg Thursday and 2mg Sunday to see if the acid stops.

KeenAnchor12archiveFeb 11

I've had good success splitting the recommended dose in half every three days. No major sides and weight is coming off steadily.
