Splitting Retatrutide Weekly Doses: User Experiences

38 replies27 peopleApr 13, 2026☆ Follow
Summary

Does splitting weekly retatrutide doses reduce side effects and hunger compared to taking it all at once?

Many users report that splitting doses into two injections per week produces steadier appetite control and fewer side effects such as nausea, heart-rate spikes, hunger rebounds, and sleep disruption. They describe moving to split schedules when single weekly shots caused noticeable peaks and valleys, with most seeing improvement after the change. No clinical studies are cited; all support is anecdotal. A minority continue single dosing without problems and question whether splitting is necessary.

What this discussion establishesWhere people disagree

Whether splitting can actually worsen sleep by raising average exposure or whether it reliably improves it by flattening peaks.

Still open

Whether a split schedule permits a meaningfully lower total weekly dose while preserving the same therapeutic effect.

Nothing here is advice.

I'm just researching this, curious whether splitting weekly doses has helped anyone. I've heard it might reduce some side effects, but others mention no clinical proof for that. Would like to know if anyone's compared both approaches and how it turned out for them.

I used to take the full amount once a week from 1 mg up to 3 mg. At 4 mg I switched to splitting it into 2 mg on Friday and 2 mg on Tuesday. This is my first week trying the split, so I don't have results yet. With the single Friday shot I would get very hungry and want to binge on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, so I'm hoping the split will keep food noise lower.

Plenty of people here split their doses and report the same benefits you mentioned. There is no clinical data backing it, but there is lots of anecdotal evidence on this site showing it helps with side effects and hunger.

Once I began increasing from my starting 2 mg per week I switched to splitting into two doses. I'm now at 10 mg weekly, given as two 5 mg shots.

PlainPebble24archiveApr 13

I split every 3.5 days and time it with my TRT. I do notice slightly more hunger right before the next dose is due. I've only ever done it this way so I have nothing to compare it to, but I haven't seen any downsides.

NorthCompass23archiveApr 15

I inject on Sundays and Thursdays because the first time I tried a single dose the side effects were rough. My body has probably adjusted by now, but since the split schedule is working I see no reason to go back to once a week.

I know it's against the rules but I split anyway. You're not the boss of me.

LevelKettle34archiveApr 15

After going from 2 mg to 4 mg per week I moved to twice-weekly dosing because I was getting hungrier toward the end of the week. Since the switch I haven't noticed that at all.

I'm trying reta after doing well on tirz. My first attempt with reta lasted about a month but I started at 2 mg and the elevated heart rate bothered me. This time I'm starting lower and splitting the dose on Tuesday and Friday nights so I don't repeat the same problem.

I ran 2 mg every four days for roughly four months after titrating up.

SteadyTimber28archiveApr 15

I also started splitting, doing Tuesday and Saturday mornings.

PlainPebble24archiveApr 15

I do every 3.5 days, Tuesday morning and Friday afternoon, so it lines up with my TRT and is easier to remember. Comparing once-weekly versus twice-weekly schedules shows the split keeps levels more stable.

NorthCompass84archiveApr 15

I'm not splitting yet but probably will start this week. I was dosing every six days and losing 2.5-3 lb per week in a deficit, yet on day five or six my appetite would jump closer to a 1 lb per week deficit. Yesterday I took my first 4 mg dose and will likely add another 2 mg on Friday or Saturday to begin splitting.

PatientBeacon23archiveApr 15

I originally split sema doses because the clinic set it up that way to reduce side effects, and it did make things more even with less appetite swings. I don't split reta but I still add a small sema dose of 0.5 mg every 7-10 days when appetite starts rising. I'm currently on maintenance so I'm not increasing reta; if I did I would probably drop the sema bumps and just split the reta instead.

I split and a few women I know who had nausea on a six-day schedule started splitting and the nausea stopped. Make of that what you will.

PatientHarbour23archiveApr 16

I've been splitting tirz since last January with three shots a week. Now that I'm looking at adding low-dose reta I'm moving to two tirz shots and one or two reta shots, possibly alternating every three days. With the split tirz I no longer get that weird crash a couple days before the next dose; levels feel steadier without the big peaks and valleys. I'm hoping the same will happen once I add reta.

PlainPebble58archiveApr 17

I split my doses and am currently at about 1.7 mg every four days. Since switching, side effects have eased to only mild nausea and hunger stays more consistently controlled. I've been on reta since January.

My weekly total comes to one milligram split across two separate half milligram shots. Since this marks my initial experience with any peptide I eased in gradually to keep my workouts unaffected. The outcomes have turned out far better than expected. Over the past decade I have mixed heavy lifting with long distance hikes and I started this compound to drop extra pounds linked to perimenopause. So far the scale has moved from one hundred sixty two pounds down to one hundred forty eight in three and a half weeks at five foot ten inches tall. I am now thinking about dropping to just half a milligram per week because the drop in hunger is cutting into my stamina on hikes although my strength sessions continue without trouble and I hold the same numbers without chasing new records.

PlainKettle23archiveApr 17

I split. I began at 2 mg weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays about a year ago, worked up to 10 mg before reaching goal, and am now slowly lowering the dose. I expect to settle somewhere in the middle.

WarmQuill73archiveApr 17

I moved from 2 mg to 4 mg three weeks ago and added a second 2 mg shot on Thursday so I'm now splitting Sunday and Thursday. The 4 mg split has wrecked my sleep; I'm out by 10 pm and awake at 3:50 am every night. I skipped the Thursday dose and will try 4 mg only on Sundays to see if sleep improves at the end of the week. I think the flatter levels from splitting kept me wired all week.

NorthKettle44archiveApr 17
↳ replying to @WarmQuill73

Curious to see if that actually helps. I would have guessed it might make sleep worse, but everyone responds differently.

NorthKettle44archiveApr 17
↳ replying to @WarmQuill73

Not necessarily. You might get a couple of better-sleep days at the bottom of the valley, but the higher peak could bring stronger sides. It's worth testing since everyone is different. I would have either dropped to 3 mg split or stayed at 4 mg split a bit longer.

LevelThistle44archiveApr 17
↳ replying to @WarmQuill73

Seems like that based on conventional thinking. Peaks cause sides and troughs determine how well it works.

WarmSparrow10archiveApr 17
↳ replying to @IronThistle67 (opening post)

I split and am happy with it. It seems to reduce the peaks and valleys. On a single weekly shot I would get hungrier as the next dose approached and would have heartburn for a few days after the injection. Neither happens now that I'm splitting, and weight is coming off steadily.

WarmQuill73archiveApr 17
↳ replying to @LevelThistle44

Yes. So sleep would be worse on the peak days and better on the trough days. That might still be an improvement over bad sleep every night.

QuietFenwick11archiveApr 17

I don't split because I haven't had any bad side effects. I'm at 10 mg per week.

LevelThistle44archiveApr 17
↳ replying to @WarmQuill73

If your trough days are already effective, splitting can raise the trough while lowering the peaks, so you might achieve the same result with a smaller total weekly amount.

WarmQuill73archiveApr 18
↳ replying to @LevelThistle44

Hold up, I think I follow. My trough days work. Splitting raises the trough. So I could drop from 4 mg to 3 mg total but still stay therapeutically close to what 4 mg once a week was giving me?

LevelThistle44archiveApr 18
↳ replying to @WarmQuill73

Roughly, yes. If the trough from 4 mg once weekly is effective, the trough from 3 mg split may be high enough to give the same benefit with less average exposure and lower peaks.

WarmQuill73archiveApr 18
↳ replying to @LevelThistle44

Thanks. I want better sleep, so I'm going to try the 3 mg split.

SteadyMarble92archiveApr 18

Yes, my wife and I both moved to twice-weekly dosing and it has worked very well for us since we started with reta.

LevelThistle44archiveApr 18
↳ replying to @WarmQuill73

My sleep is also struggling with the higher dosing I'm running, but that's common with bigger amounts. Do you track your sleep? I got an Oura Ring a couple months ago because it's more comfortable than a watch for that.

WarmQuill73archiveApr 18
↳ replying to @LevelThistle44

I don't track it now. Moving to 4 mg once weekly was the first time in years I noticed a clear change in sleep, waking at 3:50 am like clockwork.

SteadyCinder47archiveApr 25
↳ replying to @GreenThistle10

Can you say more about the elevated heart rate? I saw roughly an 8-10 bpm rise at 2 mg and about 12 bpm at 4 mg. No other negative effects, but my resting rate is now around 80-82 and that concerns me.

PlainAlder11archiveApr 25
↳ replying to @SteadyCinder47

Mine is only about 4 bpm higher, and sleeping it sits at 53-55.

PlainAnchor17archiveApr 25

Just adding that splitting twice a week has worked great for me. I'm still at 3 mg on Sundays and Thursdays for a 6 mg weekly total and that's plenty for the effect I want. I only notice the higher heart rate during cardio.

ClearWillow59archiveApr 26

Yes it keeps the amount in your system more even over time, with smaller spikes and valleys.
