What is MOTS-c like?

45 replies25 peopleJan 22, 2026β˜† Follow
Summary

What does MOTS-c feel like for energy, workouts, recovery, and body recomposition, and how do people dose it?

Users describe a clean steady energy lift without jitters or crash that helps push through lifting and cardio sessions with better focus and endurance. Effects on fat loss appear modest on its own but may support recomposition when stacked with other compounds like Reta, while recovery and steady blood sugar are commonly noted at higher doses. Dosing ranges widely with short cycles preferred by many, and injection-site reactions plus the lack of human safety data are recurring cautions.

What this discussion establishesWhere people disagree

Optimal dosing frequency and amount, with some favoring daily micro-doses and others higher intermittent use; also differing views on how common or serious allergic risks are.

Still open

Whether mitochondrial or performance benefits persist after a cycle ends, and long-term safety given the absence of human trials.

Nothing here is advice.

After looking into MOTS-c it looks interesting but some of the hype feels exaggerated. I'm wondering if it makes a real difference in how well you perform in the gym. Could it support fat reduction without losing muscle or even while building some? The studies on animals and people use pretty high amounts. What do others think about it?

GreyPebble44archiveJan 22

I'm on my second round of MOTS-c after taking time off. I use 5 mg about three times a week, usually half an hour before training. I lift five days a week and add cardio after each session. It doesn't feel like a stimulant or big surge, just a smooth steady energy lift with no jitters or crash. I start workouts less tired, can push a little harder, and stay focused longer especially during the cardio. It adds a mild extra push rather than anything dramatic. I wouldn't call it a standalone fat-loss miracle, especially since I'm also on Reta which handles most of the weight loss. Still, it seems to pair well with Reta. From what I've seen it improves training quality and tolerance, which can help with body recomposition when diet and training are solid.

I'm thinking about starting MOTS-c soon to stack with my Reta. Did you begin at 5 mg three times a week or start lower to test tolerance?

GreyPebble44archiveJan 22
↳ replying to @BlueBeacon12

Dosing info is scattered. A lot of people seem to use 1 mg or less a few times a week, but others run 5 to 15 mg total weekly, so there's no clear standard. On my first cycle I kept it low at 1 mg three times a week to check tolerance. This time I went higher to about 15 mg a week because I'm dealing with insulin resistance and wanted stronger metabolic effects alongside Reta. The downside is going through vials faster. I'm keeping cycles to four weeks since it works more like a short mitochondrial signal and longer use might not add much or could reduce the response.

Since you lift, have you tried nitric oxide supplements like L-Arginine and L-Citrulline, and how did they compare to MOTS-c if at all?

GreyPebble44archiveJan 22
↳ replying to @BrightLantern89

I haven't come across L-Arginine and L-Citrulline or tried them. A quick search shows they sound interesting. Can you tell me more?

BrightLantern89archiveJan 22
↳ replying to @GreyPebble44

I've seen them mentioned in videos but never used them myself. They are supposed to enhance it.

CopperSignal27archiveJan 23

Not trying to split hairs, but there aren't any human trials of MOTS-c as a treatment. There are studies measuring levels in different groups or after exercise, but nothing on basic toxicity, safety, or dose finding. It's already made in the body so that might make it somewhat safer than foreign compounds. Mouse doses ranged from 0.5 mg per kg daily to 10 mg per kg daily. Rough conversion for a 70 kg person gives 3.5 mg to 70 mg per day before adjusting down by about tenfold for humans. With an untested substance it's safer to stay at the low end, which lines up with the common 5 mg daily to weekly range. Many untested peptides show mouse doses far above what's commonly used. There was a phase 1 trial of a modified version of MOTS-c.

Yeah the dosing looked all over the place to me too. I also planned a four-week cycle, so I'm torn between starting low around 3-6 mg a week to test the waters and thinking that if it's only four weeks I don't want to waste the first week or two on a dose that's too low. Right now I'm leaning toward a four-week run that ramps up, starting at either 2 mg three times a week or 1 mg five times a week on training days and increasing from there. That should help me find what works for me so I can begin at that level next time if the first cycle goes well.

GreyPebble44archiveJan 23
↳ replying to @BlueBeacon12

Yeah that lines up with what I did. I skipped the usual SS-31 run before adding MOTS-c and started it on its own. Being in my early twenties my mitochondria are probably still pretty efficient so that made sense. Using the first cycle to figure things out seems smart. Once you know how you tolerate it and what effects you actually get it's easier to decide what to do next time. Worst case you use up one or two vials but that's just part of testing what works. Getting used to it. In the end it's really about how it feels. Good luck and hope the first cycle goes well and you notice the benefits, keep us posted.

SharpTimber34archiveJan 23

MOTS-c feels like a mellow steady clean energy flow. Don't expect anything dramatic. Citrulline isn't the same thing. It gives a pure pump which is why it's in every pump product. It feels nice but doesn't really do much else and for me it interferes with cardio because my calves pump up right away. Arginine has some theoretical upsides but I don't know anyone who uses it by itself, only as part of a pre-workout. I don't feel anything from it.

AmberBramble31archiveJan 24
↳ replying to @GreyPebble44

What differences if any have you noticed between the two cycles so far with the higher dose on the second one?

GreyPebble44archiveJan 24
↳ replying to @AmberBramble31

The main change I've noticed on the higher dose is better recovery and steadier energy overall. Training five days a week used to leave me wiped out, I'd get home and crash with nothing left for the rest of the day. Now I have more consistent energy after workouts. I can cook proper meals, handle chores, and even go out with family or friends instead of needing to lie down. I've also seen fewer carb crashes and energy swings, feeling more alert and focused through the day. It's still subtle, not some huge supercharged feeling. I still have occasional off days around that time of the month. But looking back at my routine, mood, and energy the difference is clear.

LevelAnchor55archiveJan 24

I've been using 3 mg three times a week before workouts or even shoveling snow last week. Seems to give more energy without the jittery rush some supplements cause. Only three weeks in so far. I'll update again in another couple weeks.

GreyKettle56archiveJan 24

My two cents on MOTS-c after running many cycles at different doses. Dosing two or three times a week doesn't make sense because the half-life is short so daily use fits better. Micro-dosing also doesn't do anything for me. 5-10 mg a day works and gives noticeable results. I wear a CGM and when I start 10 mg daily my blood sugar drops about ten points, which is clear. That doesn't happen with intermittent or micro-dosing. Exercise performance and endurance both improve, subtle but real. No need for five days on two off as some suggest since receptor tolerance doesn't build in a four or five week cycle. You do need to take breaks sometimes to keep sensitivity. It helps build more mitochondria so there are longer-term effects. I like adding 10 mg SS-31 daily before or during MOTS-c cycles.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'd like to hear more as you go. I've just started and the dose info is all over the place. Someone else said anything under 5 mg a day is pointless, which would mean 25-35 mg a week. That person also said the two days off don't matter in a short cycle. Some sites suggest 5 mg three days a week, others 1 mg a day five days a week. It would be nice if there was more solid data. Hearing real experiences from you and others is really helpful.

WryTimber41archiveJan 25

Interesting thread. I'm currently on 2.5 mg Reta, could I add MOTS-c at 1 mg three times a week without issues?

AmberMarble84archiveJan 25

On about half the work days I take five milligrams and notice greater stamina during my workouts. That means I cover more distance at a quicker pace when jogging and feel stronger while lifting weights.

WryTimber41archiveJan 25
↳ replying to @AmberMarble84

So are you taking 1 mg five times a week or 5 mg five times a week? I'm also on 2 mg GHK-cu, 1 mg BP157, and 1 mg TB500 so could I still add MOTS-c?

PatientPebble85archiveJan 26

The biggest thing I've noticed with MOTS-c is allergic reactions and intense itching at the injection site when I go over 1 mg. Subcutaneous gives unbearable redness and itching. Intramuscular makes the muscle swell a lot. Never had a full-body reaction but I'm always prepared just in case. At 1 mg intramuscular it's usually fine. I wouldn't dose 5-10 mg until I knew I didn't react, otherwise you could end up with a serious reaction. It's a known issue with MOTS-c so be careful.

AmberMarble84archiveJan 26
↳ replying to @WryTimber41

No, I take 5 mg Monday Wednesday Friday and sometimes Sunday. Yes you can add it.

AmberMarble84archiveJan 26
↳ replying to @PatientPebble85

MOTS-c is a peptide the body already makes. What do you mean by well-documented? I think it's very rare. There are no peer-reviewed reports or case reports anywhere. You can get vasovagal reactions and feel really unwell, and it does cause local inflammation or allergic reactions. But anaphylaxis can happen with anything you inject in theory. I'm more concerned about other stuff in the vial like pH, endotoxins, why filtering matters, or wrong dosing.

PatientPebble85archiveJan 26
↳ replying to @AmberMarble84

I'm just referring to YouTube videos I've seen from various people talking about anaphylaxis and allergic reactions. All I'm saying is it's something to watch for and be aware of. I'm like you, I filter everything with a 13 mm PES 0.2 um filter to help remove bacterial contaminants and junk. I'm not that risk-averse so endotoxins and other concerns don't scare me much or I wouldn't be doing this. It wasn't long ago people were selling books about eating more dirt and stopping bath soap, considering fecal transplants and other stuff. Now it's avoid all EMFs, sleep in a Faraday cage, take hormones, red light on your privates, bathe in peptides, use a squatty potty. There's a happy medium somewhere. Rant over.

CopperAlder51archiveJan 26

It's still unclear exactly what those ladies consumed. This involved a batch of the medication that came back empty in lab results, prompting the seller to swap out the questionable sets. No other details have reached me aside from reports they felt unwell. I'll start by increasing the amount gradually from a single milligram once I begin the new peptide.

PatientPebble85archiveJan 27

There are plenty of other peptides or small molecules that do similar work to MOTS-c. I can think of several safer ones like humanin, 5-amino-1MQ, SS-31, red light therapy. What am I missing? I'm sure there are more.

BlueMeadow87archiveJan 27
↳ replying to @WryTimber41

MOTS-c does something completely different from everything else you're taking. It affects the mitochondria. You can cycle on and off SS-31, NAD+, and MOTS-c pretty much anytime. You'll want to do your own research on these. Dosing is usually split across days like Monday Wednesday Friday because of the half-life.

BlueMeadow87archiveJan 27

Basically I figured out the hard way those compounds meant for under the skin use do not belong in a blood vessel. I checked details carefully ahead of time. Plus I grasped the basics of the process before introducing any substance via needle.

SlowHarbour27archiveJan 27

I ran 5 mg three times a week for four weeks. It was weird. I couldn't tell if it was working until week three when I noticed clean energy. It wasn't a pump or stim feeling, I could just keep going. Since it took that long I was going to run it for six weeks but cut it short. End of February I'm planning to run the full mitochondrial protocol with SS-31, MOTS-c, and NAD+ since I'm 45 and have some wear on the body. I also supplement 6-8 g L-citrulline daily before workouts and 3 g L-carnitine daily plus other stuff. I don't know how it compares to those but for me it's a nice steady energy increase. Everyone responds differently to lower and higher doses but that's what worked for me.

AmberMarble84archiveJan 28

Appreciate the feedback here. Distinguishing reported incidents from an elevated chance of severe negative responses seems necessary. The contents of those containers remain unknown since they aren't from regulated sources. Every drug has the potential to cause severe allergic responses on rare occasions, including the ones mentioned. This possibility shows up in lists of uncommon effects. Caution is always warranted regardless. For my part, I test a tiny bit from each new container ahead of using the complete amount to observe the reaction.

AmberMarble84archiveJan 28

Truth is, I tend to skip those sessions quite a bit. ;-) That probably brings it down to about twice weekly. Have others stopped the cycle after a while? Opinions seem to vary a lot around here.

CopperSignal27archiveJan 28

Injecting these kinds of compounds straight into the bloodstream seems really risky to me. It might not match the hazards of illicit opioids, yet even a small amount of microbes could trigger a major whole-body infection that way. Under the skin, your body's defenses usually manage fine. Stuff sourced from overseas doesn't meet the cleanliness needed for safe vein use. Trying this approach with that particular compound appears especially unwise. It looks more prone than usual to triggering severe allergic shock. Lots of folks here report skin-level sensitivities to it. Escalating from that to full-blown reaction isn't much of a leap. Though it's produced internally, it comes from an old bacterial remnant embedded in our cells, and those kinds of proteins can provoke immune responses. The amounts normally circulating are tiny compared to what a typical injection delivers, which might explain why it still works even if it breaks down quicklyβ€”something unverified in people. This pattern shows up with many similar compounds, aside from certain ones modified with lipid attachments to slow breakdown.

CopperMarble87archiveJan 28

5 mg a day five days a week for me for four weeks then switch to SS-31 at the same dosages.

PlainPebble75archiveJan 28

I've wondered if the gains from running through MOTS cycles keep going once those cycles end. I really want the fixes in my mitochondria to hold steady long term, as long as I stick with solid eating and regular workouts.

PlainThistle73archiveJan 29

This has also been on my mind lately, especially with that one substance and whether the improvements inside the cell's energy centers keep going once you stop the round.

I've tried the 5mg dose several times already. Given how quickly it fades, I time the shot just before heading to the weight room. My stamina and power have jumped way up since then. For a while I was dragging myself through sessions, barely able to finish. After the shot I feel unstoppable, like nothing can stop me. Heavier loads come easier now, and I squeeze out extra sets without fading. Sessions stretch longer because the usual fatigue never hits. There is a bit of a drop-off by the fourth use, still helpful but not quite as strong. My rest has also been terrible lately, which might explain part of it. This is just my latest update like I said I would give. For me the compound works really well. I'll probably stick to three or four injections weekly and save them for lifting days, partly to manage expense. I picked up a ten-pack of the smaller vials instead of the bigger ones and now regret it. You live and you learn. Curious how everyone else is still doing with it.

ClearHarbour56archiveFeb 8

This stuff really boosts my stamina when doing aerobic workouts. I stick to a small amount of one milligram each day for six days out of seven. Spot reactions stay light early on but turn stronger near the close of a supply. I had seen footage covering bad allergic responses ahead of time so I kept an epinephrine injector ready right from the first use. 😌

Not yet, I've had to adjust and reschedule most of my plans. MOTS-c is more likely on tap for May or June now. I do plan to start some others sooner and plan to share and update my experiences with all of it when I finally do.

I often notice my strength fading right after finishing exercise or sometimes hitting a wall entirely. The staying power of my initial boost is what puzzles me now.

GreyCompass76archiveJun 19

I have read a lot about cleaner energy on MOTS-c but has anyone had it make them feel more tired? Finished week one and since about day two I feel more sluggish. 1 mg daily Monday through Friday. Not sure if it's something else going on or if I should just try 5 mg doses next week.
