Besides passing judgment on others, quite a few people here also fail to recognize sarcasm.
If you're interested in my take on you just let me know. That kind of thing brings me enjoyment.

That's not what happened here. My view of you turned out pretty negative after all.
Besides passing judgment on others, quite a few people here also fail to recognize sarcasm.
Wondering which folks count as that us you mentioned since I'd enjoy criticizing them as well π
So we agree after all. Nice!
Even though the odds of anyone digging through garbage and getting jabbed by a covered needle seem pretty slim, I still drop the needle into an old soda bottle before tossing it out.
Some folks will probably dislike this opinion, yet let's think reasonably about it. Based on your area and waste disposal methods, this might range from no issue at all to something minor. The real way you could hurt others involves failing to put a cover on the sharp. Skipping that step makes you a terrible individual. However, covering it and discarding in the regular waste bin seems acceptable. Using some kind of jar or holder improves things further. Special disposal boxes hold no special power. Which option stands out more: leaving it uncovered inside a dedicated box or covering it before regular disposal? In my case, I store an empty supplement container near my injection area. I always cover every sharp before dropping it inside. Once that container fills up, I seal it and toss the whole thing into the bin. Plus, I really dislike vagrants, so any who rummage through my garbage and get poked are sort of paying me back indirectly.
Out in Pennsylvania the idea is to seal up a cleaning product container with tape and mark the outside saying it shouldn't go in recycling using a marker. The weird part is they allow throwing that into normal home waste pickup.
It would slice straight through an ordinary bottle the same way you'd chuck one out. That explains why the instructions call for solid thick plastic vessels instead. In earlier attempts I relied on leftover whey containers and they turned out quite durable.
How do I tag someone "POS"
Yep that's the model I used before and they really do store plenty. Maybe we could haul the filled ones over to the local disposal spot and swap for replacements. Seems the fire folks take them as well. You went and did exactly that.
Yeah, I guess I'll have to look into the laws for that spot in Florida, including the local county part too. Thanks for the heads up.
In my area they require dropping these off at a specific spot in the landfill area, which is why mailing them back works better for me.
Needles have poked through the lids for me on lots of occasions. Yet none have ever gone through a sharps bin. What am I getting payback for anyway? Just because I don't have the same advantages you do?
From what I can tell the way to handle throwing out needles and similar items used at home depends on the exact area. There is material online about lowering hazards that come from tossing medical waste the wrong way including sharp objects like syringes or test lancets. Still...
This small inexpensive cutter handles fifteen hundred needles before it's done. Since my shots happen every seven days, a single unit covers me for roughly three decades. Plus its compact size means it fits easily without cluttering my supplies bag.
Being on a GLP-1 has me reaching for those laxative containers to handle my used needles. They prove quite tough. It seems fitting to toss the sharps into something linked with peptides too. Kind of a complete loop in nature.
βI hate homeless peopleβ
How impressive and distinctive that attitude seems. Truly remarkable. Craving to cause suffering for folks currently in far worse shape than yourself. I'd wager you rest soundly carrying those values. Guess that's the benefit from being pointless without any feeling for others.
And I hate fucking jackasses.
Wow this discussion got going thanks to someone who enjoys being shamed and now plenty more like that are piling in.
You came by just to mention having no input at all. Appreciate that. I raised a query and got a reply back. I followed a tip and switched up my process. I figured this is the normal way things run around here, right?
Your remark about feeling terrible makes it obvious you had only one hand on the keyboard. My focus has moved far more to the newcomer declaring his urge to attack vagrants, so quiet down while I follow that instead.
Trying to note down those items using a marker would probably leave me all mixed up.
Here in Texas folks are expected to mark the container with that term too so others recognize what's inside.
It depends on location. Around here I can stop at the nearby recycling spot and empty the needles straight into a big open metal bin. Nothing special required at all. Probably accounts for the high taxes.
Sounds like the old fan arguments resurfacing. If you're switching your approach that's really all anyone can ask. This place is supposed to be about harm reduction, including avoiding accidental harm to others.
You're definitely a better person than me.
Yes. Is this meant seriously or just to stir things up?
I really just wanted to know how many people use proper containers versus tossing them in the trash. I already knew some who just throw them away, and now I have my answer.
I'm staying out of that other thread but still find the whole thing pretty shocking. The amount of defense going on is something else, and the guy telling everyone to stop asking just adds to it.
Part of me knows we should use a proper container. The rest of me figures nobody really cares.
I'll have to check it out later. That kind of drama is always entertaining.
Classic case of overlooking everything for the sake of the product.
Helpful when they reveal themselves like that.
Only their own experiences count, even in situations they haven't been through, and they dismiss what others have gone through as not counting.
Laughing along with the person who said they hope a homeless person gets stuck is worse.
Yeah, and it keeps getting bumped. Combined with the 'I got mine' attitude it stops being funny pretty fast.
That escalated quickly. I only came here to ask about sharps containers.
Back in the 90s my mom got stuck by a needle taking out the trash at work. We spent months worrying she might have caught something. It was really upsetting.
Glad you asked and that the advice helped. This thread should be useful for others too. Now I need to catch up on the gossip myself.
It's not that exciting or heated. Just an old thread that keeps getting revived, mostly depressing rather than dramatic.
And now the quick shift to playing the victim. You didn't actually ask about containers, you asked if you could pass the risk to others. You laughed at the comment hoping a homeless person gets stuck, then claimed anyone offended just has no sense of humor. Classic move, and predictable.
I should ask my dad for one of his. Right now I'm using an orange juice container that's not as sturdy as I'd like. Around here the trash just goes straight into the landfill with no sorting.
Yes it does. Use the money saved to get a real container. Thick plastic like a laundry bottle or litter pail works too. Water bottles are too thin. Get it together.
