Regret Switching from Tirzepatide to Retatrutide?

23 replies17 peopleOct 10, 2025☆ Follow
Summary

Do people regret switching from tirzepatide to retatrutide and what experiences do users report with appetite control, side effects, or combinations?

Experiences are mixed: several users returned to tirzepatide after retatrutide failed to suppress appetite or food noise, while others found retatrutide reduced fatigue and eventually controlled hunger at higher doses. Some added cagrilintide or semaglutide for better results or switched back due to side effects like cold sensitivity, skin issues, or depression. A few report strong sensitivity to low retatrutide doses or prefer stacking low amounts of both peptides.

Curious whether others have second thoughts after moving away from tirzepatide toward retatrutide. I've noticed accounts of people returning to tirzepatide but don't know how often that happens. Still stuck at a plateau on tirzepatide at 15 mg every six days and haven't given up on it yet. Thinking about trying retatrutide but questioning if the cost is justified for me right now.

CopperKettle60archiveOct 10, 2025

Tried retatrutide for five weeks after coming off 7.5 mg tirzepatide. It didn't work for me because appetite suppression was missing and food noise returned strongly. Went back to tirzepatide and am now thinking about adding cagrilintide.

Came across a recent paper on appetite and eating behaviors during retatrutide treatment in adults with type 2 diabetes. In the phase 2 study, 275 participants were split across control, dulaglutide, and several retatrutide doses up to 12 mg for 36 weeks. Appetite scores only shifted meaningfully at 4 mg and sometimes took eight weeks to appear. Results overlapped with tirzepatide on reduced disinhibition and cravings, yet retatrutide showed an extra effect on cognitive restraint around eating. Findings were less consistent than with dulaglutide, matching what some users describe.

If food noise is the main problem, maybe consider micro-dosing semaglutide.

I appear more sensitive to retatrutide than most. At 1.5 mg I hit a point where I can't finish a normal-sized meal. Food ads also feel irritating now because they push eating when I'm not hungry. The study you mentioned is interesting. Even while losing weight I'm more curious about other effects of these peptides since I'll probably stay on them long term.

Are you pairing tirzepatide with therapy or any other support for the addiction side of things?

AmberMarble84archiveOct 11, 2025

Started from 10 mg tirzepatide and have been lowering that while raising retatrutide, now at 5 mg of each while still titrating. Added cagrilintide because food noise returned strongly. At 0.25 mg it gives the strongest appetite control I've had with any peptide and helped break the stall on retatrutide. Planning to drop tirzepatide entirely. Switched because 10 mg tirzepatide left me depressed and stalled, though I still like tirzepatide at doses under 8 mg.

Same experience here. Been on retatrutide a few months and still at 2 mg total. Food noise started returning so I split the dose to 1 mg twice weekly and that has worked well.

BlueMarble65archiveOct 11, 2025

Added semaglutide to retatrutide to improve appetite control, something I never needed with tirzepatide. No full regret but not convinced the addition was required.

Stayed on tirzepatide for eight months or more but the fatigue became too much. Switched to retatrutide and feel much better. Hunger control didn't appear until 6 or 8 mg per week. Currently using just under 8 mg once weekly and rarely feel hungry. Tried adding cagrilintide mid-week for any remaining hunger but haven't settled on a regular schedule yet. Might start using it consistently now that things have leveled out.

Thanks for sharing what happened on retatrutide. Hearing more about cagrilintide lately and don't know much about it yet. These peptides keep leading me into deeper research.

Going to look up that study. The idea of cognitive restraint is intriguing and gives me new ways to observe my own behavior. Appreciate the mention.

Food noise isn't the main issue since tirzepatide handles that well, especially with my other medications. The stall seems more likely from reduced workouts after injuries, even though I'm already at the maximum suggested tirzepatide dose of 15 mg weekly. Micro-dosing semaglutide sounds worth checking since it's easier to find and more affordable.

Agree the longer-term effects are still unclear and we're experimenting at the front edge of this area. Betting we'll end up better off for using GLP-1s. The way they change how you see food ads is a nice side benefit.

Doing cross-training and kettlebell workouts. Not sure what other addictions you're thinking of, though they're probably there somewhere.

Interesting that tirzepatide might have played a role in the depression. Now seriously thinking about trying both cagrilintide and retatrutide after reading this.

PlainKettle50archiveOct 17, 2025

Began with tirzepatide for a couple months with solid results, then read about retatrutide and switched while keeping a low tirzepatide dose for a few weeks. Now on retatrutide alone and not impressed. Food cravings returned and skin became extremely sensitive, even a sweater can hurt. Using 3-4 mg weekly so it's not a high dose causing it. Leaning toward switching back to tirzepatide for the overall well-being and better results.

Sounds like switching back would be the right move. Thanks for sharing that perspective. You're not the first to mention similar side effects.

Looked into retatrutide and began in May. Gained about seven pounds at first. Once the dose was high enough weight loss started and reached 183 pounds. Then odd side effects appeared: feeling cold enough to go outside in the heat, and later tingling plus itchiness and pain in the back and legs at 10 mg. Weight loss wasn't as strong as hoped so returned to tirzepatide. Side effects disappeared though weight has stayed the same since. Planning to explore other peptides instead. Retatrutide wasn't the right fit and tirzepatide still keeps eating in check.

Off topic, did you set your flag to England's flag on purpose? Otherwise someone might want to fix the flag picker because it seems to detect "contains England" instead of an exact match.

Just increase tirzepatide to 17.5 mg or 20 mg once it stops working. Also consider injecting every five days. Tried switching and retatrutide gave me POTS-like symptoms, wrecked sleep, and made eating anything, even fruit, feel punishing.

CopperQuill86archiveNov 8, 2025

No regrets about moving from tirzepatide to retatrutide. Details are in my intro post.

RustBramble27archiveNov 9, 2025

Planned to try retatrutide alone after reaching 10 mg tirzepatide but the heart-rate side effect forced very slow titration and weight started coming back. Considering a stacking approach instead, perhaps 10 mg tirzepatide plus 1 mg retatrutide to start. Feels very experimental since most reports are vague on details and responses vary widely between people.

The cold intolerance seems commonly reported with retatrutide. I wear a sweater indoors even when it's in the 70s. Have lost 100 pounds in eight months so the reduced body fat may also be contributing to feeling colder.
