Sudden hunger surge after restarting tirzepatide

Summary

how to handle sudden uncontrollable hunger and quick weight gain when restarting tirzepatide after a break

Participants describe a short-term spike in hunger and a few pounds gained after resuming tirzepatide following a two-week pause. Most attribute the scale movement to glycogen and water rather than fat, and note that hunger fades once the medication level rises again. Advice centers on patience, high-volume low-calorie foods, extra water, and returning to routine without overcompensating.

take a deep breath first the few kilos that showed up are mostly water and should disappear once you settle back into your normal pattern for about a week avoid adding extra medication just because you exercised simply return to your usual activity level you have already dropped more than 45 kilos so the toughest stretch is over the rest is close now

everyone slips sometimes it is normal if you train take those extra calories and carbs as fuel to push for new lifts at the gym

add another small amount of tirz and keep doing that until the hunger drops keep careful notes so you can track what weekly amount works for you now

moving from a deficit into a surplus first refills glycogen stores in the muscle not fat each gram of glycogen holds three to four grams of water so the scale may rise a little but most of it is that focus on protein and foods that are low in calories eat vegetables first to feel full sooner do not panic and let the tirz have time most of the added weight should drop off again in a few days once you are back in a deficit

SteadyMeadow73archiveSep 14

after two weeks off there was nothing left in your system so it needs time to accumulate again just keep going and try not to stress

load up on high volume items and remove or hide any high calorie snacks while the medication level rises again things like lots of watermelon 100 calorie popcorn or soups and stews work well

also drink plenty of water it reduces bloating speeds metabolism and if you finish a glass or two right before eating you tend to take in less food it sounds odd that more water cuts bloat but most people hold extra fluid because they are not drinking enough a gallon or so daily helps flush it out

the carnivore approach might be worth trying it quiets my appetite even more than reta does

quick update for anyone following along i feel much better now this journey really is not a straight line i thought it was all over but i am twenty hours into a fast after my tirz dose and i feel like myself again i love these peptides

i added cagri to my reta when i stalled at 8 mg and going higher brought sides it took roughly three months of slow increases to reach 2.5 mg weekly before the weight started moving again a few months later i stalled once more and apparently my body had adjusted so i could go up to 12 mg without issues take your time remember how many years it took to gain the weight in the first place a small increase on the scale should not derail you the body needs time to adapt after big losses

this is great to hear it is so easy to panic when the scale moves the wrong way but i am glad you reached out and now have a better grip on both your intake and your mindset than in the first post i also like soups and potatoes for filling low calorie carbs my quick trick for lazy days is tater tots they are lower in calories than the taste suggests just toss them in an air fryer for a few minutes

i have also seen that stopping any glp-1 suddenly can bring hunger back even stronger than before it started the important part once you reach your goal is to lower the dose very slowly so your body can adjust most studies show the body will defend its old set point for at least a year and often longer i figure i will always need at least a low dose to hold maintenance good luck you can do this
