Retatrutide bloat

13 replies11 peopleMay 27, 2026☆ Follow
Summary

Why does retatrutide cause stomach bloating that worsens after eating during the day?

Users report noticeably flatter stomachs in the morning that bloat significantly after the first meal or drink, often after dose increases. Several link it to slowed gut motility and digestion allowing gas buildup from fiber or food. Remedies mentioned include lowering the dose, Gas-X, psyllium, antacids, probiotics, peppermint, or KPV, with some seeing improvement and others still affected even on clean diets.

Does anyone else notice their stomach looks flatter in the morning but then bloats up more than normal after the first drink and meal? The shift from morning to late afternoon has been pretty noticeable.

Raised my dose this morning and got bloating for the first time this afternoon. It looks like I lost a lot of progress but hopefully it is temporary.

I have noticed that too but figured it was just in my head.

I think it might be from slower gut movement so digestion takes longer and gas builds up from the bacteria working on the fiber. It happened to me when I started 2mg of Reta. Dropping to 1.5mg made it less obvious and it might settle more with time. I also used Gas-Ex at the higher dose and started psyllium fiber to keep things moving.

Now that it is mentioned, yes. I had not connected it to reta before and just thought it was something with me.

Same here. I realized this does not usually happen, especially after workouts when I am normally flattest. Maybe the gas from slower digestion is the cause like the earlier comment said. Good to know it is not only me.

I got the bloating and now take a chewable calcium antacid every morning.

I had really bad sulfur gas but after starting an acidophilus probiotic the issue went away.

Yes, I have felt this since going up to 4mg. I have to watch what I eat carefully now. Rich or fatty foods also cause bad reflux that never happened before. I thought it was just age but maybe it is the reta. At least it pushes me toward healthier eating. Tums has become my go-to.

For real, though with me it happens even when eating super clean so there is no avoiding it. Still worth it though.

Peppermint gels at least made the burps minty. Adding daily subq kpv first thing in the morning fixed the problem.

PatientFenwick91archiveMay 27

Maybe it is constipation along with the slow motility. I did not get this at all since reta does not constipate me.

Some people react this way to mannitol, which is often used in lyophilized injectables like reta.

I have not tried reta but tirzepatide does the same to me. I believe it comes from slower gastric emptying so food sits and some items can even ferment.
