High Ferritin

Summary

How to handle persistently high ferritin when other blood markers are normal and phlebotomy is not an option?

Users report isolated ferritin elevations above 700 with otherwise normal iron panels and liver tests. Some point to possible hereditary hemochromatosis variants that require specialist evaluation and may need therapeutic blood removal. Others note that inflammation from conditions like IBS can falsely raise ferritin readings, which normalize once the underlying issue is addressed. One user experienced low ferritin while on TRT and adjusting a medication dose.

Hello, does anyone else deal with elevated ferritin levels? Mine has been over 700 for quite a while now, but all other blood tests including iron panel and liver function look good. Anyone in a similar spot? What do you do if blood removal isn't possible? There's a method I've come across that I'm thinking of trying.

My levels came back on the lower end after testing for testosterone replacement. The ferritin reading showed 8.96, which is below normal, though other values stayed fine. I wonder if the medication might be impacting how I absorb nutrients. Around the testing period, I experienced those rotten egg burps and loose stools after increasing to four milligrams. I reduced it to two milligrams afterward and started using iron supplements now and then. I'm planning another check soon to figure out adjustments. Those issues disappeared once I lowered the amount.

I checked into iron overload disorders on my own. Extra lab values before any DNA checks might also point toward that possibility or a milder version. Figuring out the cause feels necessary and blood removal sessions may help keep things under control. Levels staying elevated for years can seriously harm arteries along with internal tissues.

Yeah that fits my case with the inherited iron overload issue in the double H63D form. My iron storage marker climbed past five hundred.

I reckon a blood specialist like a haematologist should handle this query. That iron storage disorder needs checking because it can lead to major problems down the line, though sorting it out is fairly straightforward.

I looked at signs of swelling in my body since the ferritin count can come out higher than it really is when swelling is around.

Totally agree. In my case the problem was swelling caused by irritable bowel syndrome. Those crp levels stayed elevated constantly. Fixing the bowel issue proved quite challenging and then the ferritin values gradually approached normal again.
