Reta sudden loss of appetite

13 replies7 peopleOct 7, 2026☆ Follow
Summary

Why did appetite and food noise change suddenly after switching from tirzepatide to retatrutide with split dosing?

Users report that moving from 10 mg tirz to low-dose reta often brings rebound hunger at first, followed by delayed appetite suppression once levels build. Acid reflux can appear with the switch and may itself reduce desire to eat. Splitting doses or stacking is discussed as a way to smooth effects, though individual responses vary widely and side effects like reflux tend to ease over time.

What this discussion establishesWhere people disagree

Whether low-dose reta can ever match 10 mg tirz for appetite control without stacking or much higher reta amounts.

Still open

Whether the sudden one-day shift in hunger will translate into sustained weight loss or simply fluctuate.

Nothing here is advice.

Hi everyone, I changed over from 10 mg tirz to 2 mg reta recently. Food noise, hunger, and even waist size were all terrible. Two weeks ago I tried splitting into 2 mg Wednesdays and 1 mg Sundays. Not much changed at first. Then food noise eased gradually only to slam back hard today. Yesterday I gave in to some sweet cravings, but now just thinking about food makes me feel sick. Getting protein in feels nearly impossible and acid reflux is constant. Has anyone else gone through this? It has me worried. It would be good if it led to weight loss, but such a big change in one day seems extreme.

Coming off 10 mg tirz straight into 2 mg then 3 mg reta, you would expect a big shift. For me 2 mg reta cut appetite right away and I ate very little. I had zero side effects from reta.

One day of lost appetite is nothing to worry about. The reflux could actually be the cause, since food is moving slower and that can trigger these feelings. Dropping from 10 mg tirz to 2 mg reta was a slow start, and it takes time for levels to rise at those low doses. Even the split 2 plus 1 is still low compared with the prior tirz. This may settle in a few days as reta dose increases and is probably tied to what you ate. Reflux is a common effect, though it is odd it did not show up on 10 mg tirz, again likely from diet. Focus on managing food choices and let the medication handle the quantity.

I do not recall any side effects while on tirz, maybe just a touch of anhedonia.

There is no chance 10 mg tirz lines up with 2 mg reta. It is much stronger than that, probably closer to 8 mg reta. No surprise the hunger came back.

If food noise matters most, why switch from tirz to reta at all? This outcome was predictable. Plenty of threads already cover the same issue. Return to 10 mg tirz and add a low reta dose in a separate injection if desired. Adjust the amounts slowly over time until the balance feels right. We could use more input from experienced users right now.

Welcome to reta, where appetite can go very quiet while titrating or at higher doses. The initial effect faded for me into some food noise and stable weight until the dose went up again. The idea that reta does not suppress appetite well is just talk. It may be weaker per milligram than tirz, but it still supports weight loss. Coming from 10 mg tirz, patience or adding both compounds may be needed until reta dose is high enough. Dosing every other day is another option for faster increases. Heartburn showed up for me on tirz, reta, and other compounds too. It usually fades until the next increase. In bad cases there are prescription acid options, though common over-the-counter PPIs work fine if used steadily, or even sleeping propped up. Other peptides are sometimes mentioned as well.

What does EOD dosing mean? Food noise was not my main worry, though I did not expect how strong it would get after the sudden switch from 10 mg tirz to 2 mg reta. My goal was to break a stall that started at 5 mg tirz and stayed even at 10 mg. I am not claiming the doses are equal; 3 mg reta is clearly not as strong as 10 mg tirz. Still, the hunger control that seemed missing at 2 mg is now back to some extent at 3 mg.

EOD means every other day. For a weekly total of 4 mg the exact EOD amount is about 1.14 mg, often rounded to 1.1 mg. For 5 mg weekly it is roughly 1.43 mg rounded to 1.4 mg. For 6 mg weekly it is about 1.71 mg rounded to 1.7 mg.

I need to consider that approach. I am a bit doubtful it will suit me since side effects are already showing at low doses. I just noticed it is only Thursday and I took the 2 mg shot yesterday when I posted. I will probably wait through a few more injections and check how I feel the day after to decide on every-other-day dosing. It is late here and hunger has returned, not as strong as on 2 mg but noticeable again. Are there any studies showing reta blood levels over time after shots? I was fortunate to see big early spikes when I began tirz, which led me to split doses right away. I credit that choice with most of my 25 kg loss on 5 mg tirz.

Stacking reta with tirz remains the most common way to move across, more so than every-other-day dosing. None of these approaches are exact when GI sides appear. The worst story I recall was constant reta hiccups lasting days, though that can be treated in hospital. Having already used 10 mg tirz should give some tolerance advantage.

An online tool that plots estimated glp-1 blood levels from your doses can show how concentrations rise and fall over time using average absorption and half-life numbers. It is not exact but makes the pattern easier to see. Each dose usually takes about 24 hours to absorb fully and peaks the next day, which matches the delayed effect you noticed. Using smaller, more frequent doses is a straightforward way to reach a higher weekly total faster if needed, with relatively low risk. The key is to watch your body and pause increases at the first mild sides, because they can worsen quickly if you keep going up. Weight loss itself often increases hunger, sometimes a lot after a big drop.

Overall I have lost 38 kg across the past 12 years, though the ups and downs have grown larger. I added 10 kg of fat from 2024 into 2025 even while cooking at home, cycling over 6000 km, and lifting twice a week on average. A little over a day after the 2 mg shot the reflux disappeared again. That is encouraging. Hunger rose a bit overnight but stayed manageable. I will remember the reflux tips if it returns stronger.

I agree, it cut appetite hard. After 34 weeks I am closer to normal but still cannot eat the way I used to. I have been lucky with no side effects, and neither has my wife.
