Reta Not Working / Even After 14mg!

25 replies12 peopleMay 27, 2026☆ Follow
Summary

why does retatrutide seem to have little effect on appetite or weight after switching from long-term tirzepatide use even at high doses

The original poster switched after a year on tirzepatide maxing at 7.5 mg and titrated retatrutide up to an accidental 14 mg dose that produced appetite suppression and minor weight movement but nothing like prior results. Others noted retatrutide generally gives weaker appetite suppression than tirzepatide so prior users often need higher doses and slower titration while already in a lower-weight state with reduced energy expenditure. Several advised staying at moderate doses for four weeks before increasing and labeling vials to avoid mix-ups while questioning whether the product could be under-dosed.

What this discussion establishesWhere people disagree

whether the product is likely bunk versus the dose simply still being too low or the body needing more adjustment time

Still open

what dose will actually produce consistent results for this user and whether the current batch is fully potent

Nothing here is advice.

Been on a GLP-1 for over a year starting with Mounjaro at a max of 7.5 mg. Switched to reta for the extra benefits and have been on it six weeks with these doses: week one 1 mg, week two 1 mg, week three 2 mg, week four 2 mg, week five 4 mg, week six 14 mg after mixing up the 10 mg and 30 mg vials. Even after that big dose five days ago appetite stayed heavily suppressed with no nausea or big side effects. Starting to wonder if the stuff is fake though I am pretty sure it is not or if my body is just used to GLP-1s now and does not respond the same. Anyone else come off long-term GLP-1 use and had the same thing starting reta? This is really confusing.

Even with the 14 mg mix-up you should stay at 4 mg for a full month. If that still does nothing then move to 8 mg. That is the way I titrated after coming from tirz. I also lowered my tirz dose while adding reta instead of stopping one and jumping straight to the other. Your body might just need longer to settle into the new compound.

ClearTimber11archiveMay 27

Alternative to 7.5 mg tirz would be around 6 mg reta. Get to that level and hold it for four weeks. When you say it is not working did you actually gain weight and if so how much? Reta does not suppress appetite as strongly as tirz anyway.

SlowLedger42archiveMay 27

Telling us everything except the one thing reta is meant to do which is weight loss. Might as well say your viagra does not work because it is not helping you meet people at the bar.

Appreciate the reply. I intended to increase the dose gradually toward 6mg but ended up making an error. The scale reading hasn't shifted in several weeks. I realize I need to monitor my daily intake more carefully too. On the earlier medication I didn't bother tracking that strictly and just made sure to get enough protein while skipping junk snacks.

Fair point. Starting weight on reta was 86 kg current weight before the big dose was 86.2 kg and this morning it was 84 kg but I am putting that down to eating a lot less after the large dose. So I know the high dose can work but it is obviously not a good plan. Also what do you mean viagra will not help me meet women I have clearly been doing it wrong.

You would need to include your tirz weight loss history for a fair comparison. Switching meds does not mean you start over with another full 20 to 30 percent loss on top of what you already dropped. Think of weight loss like a tug of war where the hunger player on your side is not pulling as hard right now but the metabolism player might be making up for it. We all want results exactly as we picture them right away and get upset when it does not happen that way.

Most people who switch stack the two for a while before stopping the first one completely. If you were still losing on 7.5 mg that is one thing but were you? I have been on 15 mg for a year and my weight moves up or down a pound or two each week. As for the viagra comment try wearing these.

PlainAlder11archiveMay 27

Everyone should stay on a dose for four weeks like the studies so the levels build up but people think they know better. Same with starting at 0.25 or 0.5 mg. Rant over.

That seems contradictory though. Stay on a dose for four weeks like the studies but start at 0.25 to 0.5 mg when the studies actually began at 2 mg and went up to 12 mg. You cannot complain about people ignoring the studies while picking which parts to follow. I titrated faster only because I was already on 7.5 mg of tirz with no sides. My rant over.

I was still losing slowly on tirz before switching to reta. Sometimes I forget I started at 121 kg and got down to 85 or 86 kg on Mounjaro so I am just getting used to slower progress now. I will increase reta gradually and check back in four to six weeks. You are right about wanting everything instantly I blame Amazon Prime.

Did you miss that I said it was just my opinion? I am not attacking anyone. The rant was really about the accidental 14 mg dose. Did you pull from the 10 mg vial instead of the 30 mg or the other way around? How much bac water did you add? Just curious.

LevelTimber48archiveMay 27

I know I am only joking around. It was a real mistake. I had two vials in the fridge one 10 mg and one 30 mg both mixed with 1 ml bac water and I drew from the 30 mg thinking it was the 10 mg. I was worried about what would happen but I got away with just stronger appetite suppression than usual.

I do not follow. The 14 mg dose suppressed your appetite and you lost some weight. How does that equal reta not working even after 14 mg? It just sounds like you have not reached a high enough dose yet.

Need to get a cheap label maker. No way I could keep track of everything without them. Amazon has a couple of simple models around eighteen dollars. I have two different ones and one is a bit easier to use. Two quick labels in this picture.

I have not heard of anyone needing to go that high to get what felt like fairly mild suppression compared to when I first started tirz over a year ago. People report good results on 2 to 5 mg but my accidental dose was more than double that.

GreyLantern40archiveMay 27
↳ replying to @LevelTimber48

The fact that 14 mg worked does not mean 8 mg will not. You have a history with GLP-1s and it is known that retatrutide does not suppress appetite as strongly as tirzepatide.

LevelTimber48archiveMay 27

That is quite a collection. I am going to get one of those label makers and check out the models you mentioned.

You put the caps back on after reconstituting as well?

PlainAlder11archiveMay 27
↳ replying to @SharpSparrow29

I do get caps with some orders but I do not use them. I just wipe the tops with alcohol wipes. I got some round labels so I can mark the vials. Hard to tell what is what without pulling them up a bit. The case has bins that hold quite a few vials and I will almost fill one when the rest arrive. I am not right.

CopperSignal27archiveMay 28

A few reasons could explain the weaker response. At 14 mg it clearly worked since appetite was suppressed. You are already at a lower weight after dropping a lot on tirz so energy use is lower and hunger tends to be higher meaning the drug effect needs to be stronger to keep losing. Four mg of reta is still a lower overall dose than 7.5 mg of tirz with no exact conversion but you would expect less suppression from it. Since you responded well to tirz and reta works similarly except for the extra glucagon part it should work for you too but you will need to raise the dose. Jumping from 4 mg to 14 mg is a big step and you were lucky not to feel very sick. Label everything carefully because mistakes happen easily.

Maybe it is time to look into this option instead. A doctor places a soft silicone balloon in the stomach through the mouth while you are sedated then fills it with saline. It takes up space so you feel full faster and eat less. The procedure takes about twenty to thirty minutes and the balloon stays for six months before removal. Average weight loss is twenty to fifty pounds depending on diet and exercise. There are other balloon types some you swallow as capsules.

I was never on tirz but I had some mild sides on 1 mg of reta. I cannot picture jumping up by 10 mg at once without serious side effects. Sounds like you might have got some weak stuff.
