Type 1 on Reta and loving it

14 replies9 peopleApr 27, 2026☆ Follow
Summary

How are type 1 diabetics experiencing retatrutide for glucose control, insulin needs, and weight loss?

Multiple type 1 users report rapid drops in A1C, improved insulin sensitivity, lower daily insulin doses, steadier glucose readings on CGM, and steady weight loss after starting reta at low doses like 2 mg. Some switched from tirzepatide and note reta gives less appetite suppression but better fat loss and glucose stability. A few non-type-1 users saw mixed or minimal A1C changes. Most keep the medication private from doctors and plan long-term use.

Been on Reta about three weeks at 2 mg and my blood glucose has improved a lot. Insulin resistance dropped sharply. Appetite suppression is minimal, yet the stable readings let me cut carbs without lows or corrections. Using less insulin overall and feeling much better. Didn't expect changes this fast. CGM shows sugars 7 % better over the month, roughly 0.4 lower A1C, and 20 % better this week.

This is so good to know! I suffer from prediabetes and really want that drug plus watching calories and working out to bring me all the way to a normal state.

Type 1 here. Starting reta next week after six months on tirz. My A1C fell from 8.9 to 6.5, the best it's ever been. Lost 60 lb, gained natural energy, and sleep is the best it's been. Good luck, your life is about to improve in a major way.

I noticed much stronger glucose handling while on Reta even though hunger stayed about the same as usual. What changes did you see in your own response to insulin when using tirz?

My intake has dropped to just under 50 units across three days now. Previously I was consuming more than 200 units in the same period prior to starting tirz. Hypoglycemic episodes happen several times weekly, and my readings seldom exceed 160. This approach has truly worked amazingly well. When it comes to curbing hunger, tirz outperforms, while reta excels at reducing body fat.

I'm also a Type 1 using Reta. Currently in week four, and around ten pounds have come off. Control over blood glucose levels feels incredible. Things appear much steadier overall. My basal has needed lowering, and sensitivity to insulin got way better. Life used to revolve around meals, but now eating seems secondary. It's really liberating.

I keep quiet about using this medication around my relatives and buddies as well as the healthcare providers handling my diabetes mainly to avoid any criticism or nonsense. After looking into things myself and understanding how my system works better than anyone I see no reason to bring it up. It makes me wonder how many others with Type 1 diabetes discuss it with their physicians and how those conversations go.

My relatives carry both forms of diabetes even though I don't have the first one. So far this medication at one milligram hasn't improved my blood sugar reading. After roughly four weeks the reduced hunger has still let me drop around two pounds each week. Three months back before starting it my level sat at five point five. Yesterday I checked again on my own since I wanted to watch it even when my physician said it wasn't needed and the number moved to five point seven. I plan to raise the dose to two milligrams and check once more after a few months.

Wow three weeks brought about such a big transformation. Well done and continue pushing ahead.

After around three months using two milligrams weekly my morning blood sugar levels fell from 96 down to 73 and the A1C reading dropped in line with those changes.

Excuse me for jumping into this discussion but the progress you shared looks really impressive. My goal is to lose around fifty pounds while also bringing my A1C reading down from its present level of 5.6. After I sort through the details I plan to begin with tirz so I can reach the targets I have in mind.

I'm excited about achieving comparable outcomes, which explains my presence in this discussion. For years I've watched the peptide scene quietly without joining in, and never anticipated beginning with injections at first. Still I want good results, and this might ease my partner's strong dislike of needles.

Appreciate it, friend! So far the progress has been really satisfying for me. When I began using reta, there was this stretch of four weeks where my weight stayed fixed around 216. Then during week five I checked the scale once more and discovered a drop of eleven pounds, landing me at 205. I'm aiming for somewhere between 165 and 170, and that target feels nearer every day.

I have type 1 diabetes too. I began using this in November of last year, lost close to forty pounds, brought my A1c down to six percent, and reduced my basal rate from point seven to point five. This stuff works wonders on my blood sugar control, so I'm thinking of continuing it indefinitely. When talking to my endocrinologist I mentioned being on a GLP agonist but left out the details, and luckily no further questions came up. Still, the doctor seemed quite pleased with how well things are going.
