Moments of intense hunger

Summary

Why do I get sudden intense hunger days while taking tirzepatide and retatrutide even though appetite is usually low?

Forum users describe brief periods of strong hunger a few times a month that fade on their own without needing a dose increase. They eat enough during those windows to protect their metabolism while still losing several pounds weekly. A side discussion corrects the idea that fat mainly exits through urine, explaining most leaves as carbon dioxide via breathing.

Most days I have trouble getting food down at all, but then a couple days each month I turn extremely hungry. That always makes me wonder whether the meds have quit working and whether the dose needs raising, yet the feeling fades and low appetite returns. I go ahead and eat more during those times because I keep dropping a few pounds a week and want to keep my metabolism steady. It feels odd though. I doubt it is tied to progesterone since the timing is weeks away from my period. Has anyone else seen this pattern? What might explain it? I take 7.5 mg Tirz plus 3 mg reta and add Cagri now and then.

Same thing happens to me and I have no idea why. I am on 6 Tirz and .82 Survo. It has not slowed my weight loss so I just eat when it hits, same as you, to protect my metabolism. Interested in what others think about it.

I never used to want full-sugar soda, but lately I buy one bottle and sip half, sometimes leaving the rest for days. Calories are what matter. I lowered my tirz from 20 mg to 10 mg and side effects dropped while weight still comes off. Deficit is everything. I do not eat much overall and any craving fades fast once the gut and the medication have their say.

I get the same urge sometimes right after eating and before bed. I tell myself to knock it off and it disappears. Drinking extra water helps because a full stomach stops the hunger signal.

Water is always smart. My doctor says that is how fat leaves the body, through urine.

I have been doing the exact same thing lately. Sweets do not appeal anymore but I still grab half a bottle of Coke every so often.

Early on with Reta I had wild hunger swings and never figured out the reason.

On days I urinate more I always lose weight, though it does not line up exactly with how much I drank. One day I only drank when thirsty instead of forcing a gallon and a half and ended up peeing every hour, then dropped three pounds overnight. Not sure if that is real or just coincidence.

I get mild hunger now and then just like you described. Either it fades by itself or I eat a few nuts or carrots and stay satisfied for a few hours.

Roughly 85 percent of fat mass actually exits as carbon dioxide while the rest leaves in urine. I would question what that doctor told you.

Now and then I feel a sudden strong hunger, usually early morning, but it disappears fast so I can ignore it. Even back on wegovy I had the same thing.

To add a bit of humor, the only time I feel that is with the gummy. It turns into a contest between Reta and the gummy, and the gummy wins unless I am at the higher end of my Reta dose.

It is pretty messed up how people get all worked up just because someone mentions their actual doctor. I never brought up any percentages. Still, if someone loses 50 to 70 pounds, would they not have to deal with a huge volume of airborne fat at 85 percent of 80 pounds?

I am staying right here because I want to learn. So how does weight come off by breathing out something lighter than air? Does the fat attach to the CO2? If we belch carbon dioxide would we not get slightly heavier? I only had a short walk to school, so explain it simply.

LevelThistle44archiveJul 2

That is the right way to look at it. Burping out carbon dioxide or anything else makes you lighter. Think about a big fire burning for 50 hours with 20-pound propane bottles in front of it. Where did all the mass go? Wood is mostly carbon, oxygen, and hydrogen, and nearly all of it turns into gases with only a little ash left. The same carbon cycle applies to us: plants pull carbon from the air, animals eat the plants, we eat the animals, and we release the carbon back when we use that energy. Fat is basically stored solar energy in carbon form.
