5 weeks in - is this normal?

12 replies7 peopleJun 16, 2026β˜† Follow
Summary

Why am I suddenly feeling awful with GI issues and fatigue after five weeks on retatrutide following a trip to India?

The original poster reports no problems for the first four weeks on 2 mg retatrutide but developed severe diarrhea, reflux, nausea and ongoing lethargy after the fifth dose from the same vial. Several replies point to recent travel to India as the probable trigger rather than the medication itself, while others note that drug levels reach steady state around week five and could amplify any other stress. The poster confirms taking vitamin C and iron, having eaten and drunk normally abroad, and feeling better once resting.

New here and to reta, though I used Mj for six months last year and had a mini gastric bypass in 2023 with good results. Started reta five weeks ago at 2 mg doses from a vial mixed with 2 ml bac water. Everything went smoothly with no sides, food noise gone and smaller meals feeling fine until the fifth shot last Saturday into the right love handle. Since then I've had a rough night with diarrhea, bad reflux I never had before, and nausea. Sunday I rested and improved a bit, but today I'm wiped out, tired and have almost no appetite. I was in India the week before, ate and drank normally with plenty of electrolytes and had zero issues there.

If the vial was the same one and earlier shots were fine, the India trip is probably to blame. Not trying to be harsh, but that place has a reputation for making people sick even from the air.

At five weeks you've hit steady state so the total amount in your system is now at its highest. Best to hold the current dose and watch how the sides play out. Vitamin C helps iron absorption, and low levels of that could be behind the tiredness. Coming back from India you might have picked something up there too.

You switched up your eating and daily schedule for a week, flew home on a long haul, dealt with jet lag and probably didn't sleep enough or stay hydrated. Maybe the reta isn't the only factor here 🧐

I like your thinking! Sometimes you just need someone else to say it out loud!! 🀣

Yeah I already take vit c and have my iron with orange juice. I think I just need the doctor to speed things up and get my levels sorted somehow!

Yeah, the levels accumulate gradually with ongoing use. Entering my injection amounts on a graphing site produced a clear chart for me.

Thanks, that's a good visual. It shows my peak was yesterday, so combined with everything else no wonder I'm feeling terrible!

2 mg doses can be rough, said with sarcasm. My wife and I are both at 8 mg and haven't run into those kinds of issues. Moving up to 9 mg next Sunday.

You've been lucky to skip the sides that hit a lot of people. I never increase by more than 0.5 mg each time.

I guess so. My schedule was 2-4-5 for two shots, then 6 mg for six shots, 7 mg for two shots, now 8 mg for five shots. Next week 9 mg and we'll see. I'm five pounds from goal and down 50 lbs total aiming for 55. Wife is going to 10 mg then probably 12 mg since she has more to lose. Early on I had some heartburn that's now rare. Appetite is low and I can't sleep past a certain hour, but she has no sleep trouble.

Traveler's diarrhea seems the most likely cause given the recent trip. See a doctor if there's fever or blood in the stool. Otherwise focus on fluids and rehydration. It's possible the reta is involved since levels build gradually over four weeks at a fixed dose, but the travel and location make an infection far more probable.
