How to handle racing heart and anxiety while using retatrutide

Users report elevated resting heart rate and anxiety-like feelings after increasing retatrutide, often starting around 4 mg. Several lowered their dose or split injections and saw improvement, while others added electrolytes, magnesium, or switched emphasis to tirzepatide. Some found the effect manageable over months; others view it as a reason to stay lower or stop.

Woke up several times this morning with my heart pounding hard, almost like intense anxiety. I raised the Reta amount fairly fast because side effects had been minimal, yet now I suspect I should cut back. Currently at 4 mg and heard glucagon effects mainly start at that level or above. Should I drop the dose? Would splitting help, or is this just expected? Either way I’m really into these GLP meds now.

Try easing the dose down a bit and check whether that changes anything. Faster heart rate is a frequent complaint with reta and the part I dislike most because it feels so much like anxiety. You might still see some increase at any amount, but if the ramp-up was quicker than your body could handle, test 3 mg or even 2 mg for a week. If the anxious feeling stays the same you’ll know it happens regardless of dose; if it eases, stay lower for a while before going up again.

That matches exactly how I feel. Other side effects from different meds never bothered me much, but this anxiety is hard to take. I may just stay on Tirz if it doesn’t settle down. I was hoping to get the glucagon part working though.

That idea is a myth. Try meditation and focused breathing instead. Telmisartan is also worth looking into. My resting rate was near 100 before; it dropped to 66 and after starting Reta it sits at 72 after three weeks and four shots. Do you score high on anxiety or neuroticism in the Big Five personality test?

I kept my dose at or below 2.5 mg for the same reason. I already dealt with some fast heart rate and anxiety and didn’t want it to worsen. I added Tirz and raised that instead while keeping the 2.5 mg of Reta. My resting rate has gone up about 10 beats over two months, which seems typical according to what I’ve read and often improves after longer use.

Once I reached 5 mg I got strong nausea. I began splitting into 2.5 mg every three and a half days and have had no problems since.

I already have PTSD and bipolar, so anxiety is common for me anyway. An edible helped calm it, but I’m still going to lower the dose and see if that makes a difference because it’s too uncomfortable right now.

I’m thinking of dropping to 3 mg total and splitting it into two 1.5 mg shots, then increasing slowly from there.

Reta does raise heart rate, but I think this case is more about not drinking enough fluids, since it also reduces thirst. Focus on getting electrolytes, especially potassium; low levels can trigger racing or palpitations right away. Bananas or dates work if you prefer not to use electrolyte drinks.

I also deal with anxiety and have a heavy workload right now. At 2.5 mg my resting rate felt very high for the first couple of days, sometimes hitting 90. Lowering to 1.5 mg then 2 mg fixed it. After five months I could reverse diet and eat more without gaining body fat. Now at 3 mg split into two shots my resting rate sits at a steady 70.

I agree completely that three to four liters of water plus electrolytes matters a lot. Every night I also take 600 mg of magnesium bisglycinate.

PlainAlder11archiveMay 21

As soon as you start thinking about it, that itself creates the anxiety that pushes the rate higher.

I raised my reta dose last week and have felt a lot of anxiety and heart racing this week. I wondered what was going on until I saw others describing the same thing. I’ll just wait and see how it goes.
