Metabolic effect of reta

4 replies5 peopleJun 23, 2026☆ Follow
Summary

At what point or dose does retatrutide produce its strongest increase in basal metabolic rate or energy expenditure?

Participants agree the metabolic effect is probably dose-dependent and modest, with calculations pointing to roughly 100-200 extra kcal burned daily at higher doses. No published human studies have directly measured energy expenditure on reta, so the figures come from math on weight-loss differences and limited animal data. One user tracked their own intake and output over nine weeks and arrived at about 150 kcal/day of unexplained deficit that matches the estimates.

I've been taking reta for two weeks at 3 mg each week and want to know during which phase of side effects the BMR increase shows up most strongly. Appetite is somewhat reduced but hunger remains most of the time, so I may increase the dose but haven't decided. Food noise is acceptable if the metabolic benefits are close to maximum.

It seems reasonable to assume the effect grows with dose but with smaller added gains at higher amounts.

No one has directly measured energy expenditure in humans taking reta, so all the usual claims are estimates or taken from animal work where temperature regulation differs from people. The commonly cited range is 100-200 kcal per day at 12 mg and is thought to be dose-related, yet these values lack human confirmation. Maximum metabolic impact would therefore require the highest dose, though everything remains speculative. An extra 100 kcal daily would translate to roughly 5 kg more weight loss over a year, close to the added loss seen versus tirzepatide when food intake is held constant.

After checking the studies and running the numbers I reached the same 100-200 kcal range depending on dose and body size, and the same math appears elsewhere. In my own case after nine weeks the unexplained gap between calories in and out also falls around that level. Following the same approach that previously produced 1.5 lb weekly loss, I am now losing 1.8 lb per week without changing exercise, which works out to about 150 kcal daily. A single-person nine-week observation is limited but the result lines up.

Measurements have actually been performed, but the results are not yet published.
