Slow 1st month, does it get better?

8 replies8 peopleJun 26, 2026☆ Follow
Summary

Does retatrutide weight loss start slowly in the first month at low doses, especially for women, and improve later?

The original poster saw no scale movement after nearly a month at 0.5–1 mg despite mild appetite reduction and reported that heat prevented extra walking. Several replies stressed that meaningful effects usually require reaching 2–4 mg and that weight loss only occurs in a calorie deficit regardless of dose. One user shared success by splitting doses and combining with intermittent fasting plus low-carb eating. Others noted that some appetite suppression at 1 mg is a positive signal but tracking intake remains necessary.

23-year-old woman, 164 cm and 102 kg. Almost a month into reta with doses of 0.5 mg then 1 mg twice. Sunday is my fourth injection and I plan to stay at 1 mg. I realize the medication builds up gradually so progress takes time, yet the scale has not moved. Heatwaves here have kept me from daily long walks. Appetite feels a bit lower and I am getting used to not eating when I am not actually hungry. Curious whether other women also saw little change the first month before better results later.

I get why some start with very small amounts. Trials actually began participants at 2 mg though. If nothing is felt then moving up to that trial starting level makes sense. Even so the real issue is calories. Without a deficit no amount of the medication will produce loss. Tracking intake precisely helps a lot. From experience the drug can feel very effective but it is not magic on its own.

No offense intended but moving to 2 mg and holding there for four weeks seems reasonable, though many notice stronger effects around 4 mg.

Pretty much covers it. Feeling some appetite reduction already shows the medication is active. Reaching the needed dose will make controlling portions easier but tracking calories is still useful to confirm intake stays controlled.

I tried 1.5 mg during weeks two and three but ended up vomiting bile so I would rather increase slowly. Will attempt again in a couple of weeks.

More precisely 4 mg is a common therapeutic dose. Clinical data do not establish it as a sharp minimum where effectiveness suddenly begins. Trials showed a dose-response pattern with greater average loss at higher amounts yet meaningful effects occurred for some at lower levels. The original poster already notices appetite changes at 1 mg so results at that level remain possible but not guaranteed.

Low and slow works for me so listening to your body is key. If once-weekly injections feel too strong then splitting into twice-weekly smaller amounts can help. I did that after struggling with 4 mg and now handle 2 mg twice a week. Combined with intermittent fasting, low-carb keto eating and light exercise I have dropped about two pounds weekly and over twenty pounds total since late December.
