Started tirz after Reta and the hunger noise is back

14 replies11 peopleJun 15, 2026☆ Follow
Summary

why does hunger return after switching from retatrutide to tirzepatide

Users report mixed results when moving between the two peptides. Some find appetite control weakens right after the switch while others see the opposite pattern with heart rate or glucose changes. Overlap from the prior drug's half-life and individual dose responses are cited as likely factors. Most advise waiting a few days or adjusting the new dose before concluding the switch failed.

What this discussion establishesWhere people disagree

Some participants claim reta provides equal or better cardiovascular benefits while others state tirz is superior for appetite and that reta's heart-rate side effects outweigh any unproven gains.

Whether the user should increase the tirz dose, add reta back, or simply wait longer for steady-state effects.

I used reta for about six weeks and it kept hunger down really well. Switched to tirz because I wanted the heart benefits and started at the usual 2.5 mg. The first week still felt decent but after the second shot yesterday hunger came roaring back today. Not sure if leftover reta was helping last week or if something else is off. The source seemed solid so I doubt it's fake, yet the control just isn't the same. Anyone else notice this when they switched?

My experience went the other way. I use the prescription version and tried reta for a month after stopping tirz. Even at 1 mg reta pushed my heart rate and fasting glucose up while hunger returned. Going back to the prescription tirz quickly fixed all three again.

Reta did push my heart rate up noticeably but it still kept me from feeling hungry.

What dose of reta were you on before the switch? Its half-life is about six days so some was probably still around. Most people say tirz suppresses appetite more, but that depends on the amounts used. Might be worth giving it more time instead of switching after only six weeks.

I began reta at 1 mg but had to drop to 0.5 mg because the stomach issues were too strong. I waited a week after stopping tirz before starting reta and stayed on it for a month. Right now I'm back on 5 mg of the prescription tirz.

Tirz sometimes needs a couple of days to fully kick in. Might be worth waiting another day or two.

Reta can stay active in the body for roughly a month.

Reta likely shares similar heart benefits with tirz but those aren't confirmed yet and it tends to raise heart rate more. Hard to say what's happening without knowing your previous reta dose. Tirz peaks around 24 hours after the shot though it can vary. Double-check your mixing and dosing math in case there's an error there.

I moved from sema after a year and a half because it seemed to lose strength. Stayed on 2.5 mg tirz for the next year and a half and it still crushes appetite for me, though the acid reflux is pretty bad and I can't picture going higher.

I'd give it another day or two. The strongest effect usually hits on the second day after the shot for me, not the first. Some weeks it feels weaker by day seven while other weeks it hits hard all the way through. Hard to judge after just one or two doses.

I was using 1 mg reta weekly after starting at 500 mcg. Took a week off then began 2.5 mg tirz. Hunger is back at least as strong as before reta.

That person knows the details. I'd wait it out.

Plenty of data already points to strong heart benefits from reta. My cardiologist told me to stay on it after hearing I was using it because they're seeing big improvements in heart function with these GLP-1 drugs.

In theory 2.5 mg tirz should beat 1 mg reta for hunger control but everyone responds differently. I once tried to match a low sema dose and ended up needing much higher tirz than the math suggested. If quick results matter you could try bumping the dose, but splitting smaller shots more often is one way to test it while watching side effects. Check a plotter tool first if you go that route.

Why not just use more reta if 1 mg isn't doing enough? Trials went up to 12 mg.
