Non-Scale Victories on GLP-1 Journeys

53 replies30 peopleJul 20, 2026☆ Follow
Summary

What non-scale victories have people experienced while taking GLP-1 medications?

Forum users describe numerous benefits beyond weight numbers, such as normalized blood pressure and A1C readings, dramatically smaller clothing sizes, easier mobility like crossing legs or tying shoes, reduced joint pain, and greater energy for daily activities. Many also note mental clarity, visible muscle definition, better sleep, and the ability to shop in regular stores or fit into old favorite items. Several mention stopping other medications and feeling physically lighter in everyday situations like sitting in booths or navigating crowds.

My mind feels really clear and focused these days. After a serious concussion back in April that left me with ongoing symptoms, I'm finally feeling like my usual self again. On Reta. Would love to hear about others' wins that aren't on the scale!

CopperSignal27archiveJul 20

I can now buy size S clothes, after beginning at 7XL where even those were sometimes too snug and bigger options weren't available in stores.

PatientCompass47archiveJul 20

My Samsung watch band went from large to medium. Jeans dropped from size 38 to 30 and shirts from 2x to medium. Oh, and I have six pack abs at 51 years old...

GreenPebble91archiveJul 20

I caught myself purchasing tons of cologne lately. It's become my new habit.

QuietThistle70archiveJul 20

My pressure numbers shifted from one hundred forty five over eighty five down to one hundred fifteen over seventy five while the other test result moved from five point nine to five.

WarmAnchor55archiveJul 20

I can sit comfortably in a restaurant booth now. My belly no longer touches the steering wheel either!

Right? My blood pressure stayed low until the extra weight built up...now it's back to the levels in your post. Also, the doctor started me on statins, which I didn't like, but after the weight loss and much better eating habits I stopped them over a month ago. I updated the doctor at my next visit. Winning!

I'm into fragrances too! I own well over 200 bottles as a collector. All my perfumes smell different on me now. Maybe a shift in ph level? Love it!

I bet that feels way more comfortable now!!

The doctor's conversation gave me the push to begin Tirzepatide. I had looked into it myself, but when they suggested a statin and beta blocker for good, I went home and found a compound tele-doc to order some. A year and a half later, here I am.

PatientBeacon15archiveJul 20

I can see my genitals again, though not something most would want to view. I can slip through crowds and around things without effort. I can bend down to pick up items from the floor without it turning into a big breathing struggle.

I don't struggle at all with cleaning my behind or lacing up my shoes.

GreenBeacon89archiveJul 20

I'm switching to medium gloves for my job instead of the extra larges I normally pick.

PlainAlder11archiveJul 20

Things are looking positive with the group. One change that stands out involves getting back into my former outfits now that I no longer need the bigger tops I picked up earlier. There are probably other gains as well. On top of that both my cholesterol reading and another value have moved into the average zone. The physician had concerns about those numbers from February.

NorthSparrow68archiveJul 20

My worries and low mood disappeared completely. The nighttime breathing trouble also cleared up. These days I hardly make any noise while sleeping. Every lab result now sits in the normal range. Of course shedding pounds on its own could have fixed it all without the shots, yet they gave me the initial push and helped me build lasting habits.

Hands caught my attention right away too. Swelling eased off fast and my rings slipped on comfortably again.

This really sparked my ongoing achievements in a big way. I'm thrilled with the results!

These discussions always get me excited! Reading about other people's wins leaves me quietly rooting for them the whole time. My speed feels much quicker lately. During racket games, crossing my legs comes easily whether on a flight or beneath my work table. Washing my hands catches me off guard when arm muscles show up in the reflection, like finally spotting those triceps. Outfit choices seem limitless now, and wow, every single one suits me perfectly. 😊

Totally agree with that feeling! Hearing about all these fantastic successes from others on similar paths really fires me up and gives me drive. Still at the start myself but excited to mark those key moments once they arrive. This rocks!!

IronHarbour22archiveJul 20

I came across a comment online and only after seeing it did I notice this change in myself too. No more leaking urine once I'm done. Maybe it's from losing fat around my insides or less swelling? Not sure really. But yeah, it's happening. Sorry if that's oversharing.

KeenCompass27archiveJul 20

I began with extra large outfits. Upon reaching my target I was in a ten or medium fit. I haven't dropped further pounds yet the tens are starting to feel loose occasionally. Surprisingly eights work pretty good on me now. Even though I've been holding steady for more than twelve months without changing my mass my shape keeps changing.

RustKettle57archiveJul 20

My blood pressure readings shifted from 170 over 110 down to 121 over 81 while my heart rate at rest moved from 87 beats per minute to 62.

IronFenwick84archiveJul 20

My blood pressure appears to be stabilizing. I find it easy to cross my legs these days. I feel no urge at all for alcohol, freeing up cash for kits.

LevelTimber10archiveJul 20

We just brought a young whippet into the household, and these days my stamina holds up fine for looking after the dog. Shedding those extra pounds earlier is the only reason we managed to welcome this new addition at all. Once she grows larger, heading out for runs together will finally be doable.

AmberLedger89archiveJul 20

It's amazing how much I shock folks I haven't run into for ages. Usually they have no idea it's me until I say my name. Getting outfits from ordinary clothing shops instead of specialty big sizes feels great. Went from 5X down to L. Now I own jeans in a 33 waist. The little wins add up too, like bending to tie laces and staying calm, sitting with legs crossed, skipping the belt extension, and sliding into chairs at gatherings or flights without issue. So many perks!

I haven't changed my mind since that first drink of the day still appeals to me.

I still have some old outfits from earlier times. Over the years leading up to and following my retirement, I put on quite a few pounds gradually. Earlier today my blood pressure measured 118 over 68. Ever since I began using Reta my pulse rate increased to roughly 80 beats per minute. Before that it stayed near 72. That pup would probably leave you in the dust, haha. They really move quickly.

NorthWillow72archiveJul 20

I don't smack my large stomach into door frames anymore just because I didn't swing them open far enough! No more showing my backside crack since my gut stopped shoving my trousers downward. I can now join the kids on those inflatable castles and slippery slides during family celebrations!

LevelSignal57archiveJul 20

Needed a fresh exercise pad after the last one got completely used up from all the sessions. Never expected that sort of wear to become an issue at all. This marks the initial stretch where consistency lasted long enough to require swapping out workout items. Painting my toenails has become simple and they look cute now. Self shots into the leg area stopped working because there is not enough to grab. Extra pounds remain yet pinching skin feels impossible these days. Completed an obstacle course through mud. Blood sugar reading hit 5.1 while cholesterol levels normalized again. Everything in the closet hangs loose. Leg strength allows pressing 630 pounds multiple times. Squatting with another person balanced on my shoulders works fine. Moving heavy household pieces no longer causes concern. 35 y/o female

These days I don't run at all which means watching should turn out entertaining 😎

RustBeacon82archiveJul 21

Being able to crawl into tight spots on the vessel during maintenance tasks means fellow vessel owners often request assistance since they lack the ability to reach certain spots. Enjoying outfits that suit my preferences without appearing oversized or baggy. Appreciating how my partner can embrace me fully without any concern over extra layers of flesh. Also nice when he lifts me in a strong hold and I don't fear causing him strain. Dislike the pain from resting on hard seating surfaces though. Surprised to find that lying on my side prevents bringing my legs close without direct bone contact.

ClearWillow59archiveJul 21

Plenty of changes stand out for me these days. I sprint up and down steps without any knee noises at all and skip gripping the banister entirely. Nothing smaller remains in my drawers to test out. While grabbing new items I picked up a petite pair of those favorite bottoms. The activewear from eight weeks prior now hangs loosely. My muscles show up clearer and I sense them shifting as I go about daily. 😁

Yearning for that presence hits hard lately. Wow!!! My devotion runs so deep!!!

SteadyAnchor48archiveJul 21

Is it strange how I keep reaching over to feel my collarbone? It stayed covered up under everything for ages, you know? Lol.

SharpBeacon49archiveJul 21

Last year I couldn't even finish half a mile on that trail with my spouse, but this time we made it all the way through three miles together. My belt needed extra notches punched in it so my trousers wouldn't fall down. Even so, I keep putting on the loose outfits my partner thinks look terrible on me now, since I'm hesitant about getting new ones in a smaller size.

LevelAlder29archiveJul 21

My workspace seat holds me again now. Clothes had piled up on it for months beforehand. I skipped sitting there until needing a spot to mix my dose, around four months into the treatment, and figured it would squeeze or feel awkward. It settled in fine with no issues.

Absolutely the white option suits me best while stretched out on the mattress.

WarmSparrow33archiveJul 21

There are tons of changes. Crossing my legs happens frequently now that it's doable. Blood sugar control improved dramatically with the reading going down to a healthy level. The number of blood pressure medications dropped from three to one with plans to eliminate it entirely soon. Regular clothing stores are where I shop and feel stylish in the process. A pair of large leggings got purchased the other day after previously using much bigger sizes. This seems unbelievable. Smaller and thinner shoes fit me now. My backside no longer draws attention first due to previous largeness. Ribs show up visibly and can be felt. Constant laundry from excessive sweating stopped because of reduced body size. Money gets spent on extras since meals are smaller. The list continues endlessly.

SharpCompass21archiveJul 21

It's surprising how defined my muscles look when I glance at myself in the reflection, especially around the midsection. This feels pretty solid for someone who is 51. My choices in outfits have opened up a lot and everything sits nicely now. The discomfort in my lower spine and joints has vanished, along with the swelling 🙂
