GLP-1 effects on joint pain, senses, behavior and neuro pathways

109 replies60 peopleAug 3, 2026☆ Follow
Summary

What non-weight-loss physical and behavioral changes are users experiencing on GLP-1 drugs?

Thread documents rapid reversal of joint pain relief when dosing stops, plus sensory shifts such as increased earwax, ear clogging, constant cold feeling with better sleep, and easier mobility. Behavioral reports include effortless quitting of coffee, new organizing compulsions, steadier routines after alcohol cessation, and occasional music taste changes, all framed as brain-gut or dopamine effects rather than weight reduction alone. Replies largely confirm the same symptoms conversationally.

Random thought here. Weight loss gets all the attention, yet the minor shifts intrigue me more. Since beginning GLP-1, I've quit purchasing tons of snacks and beverages as the urge just vanished. My buying patterns shifted dramatically. Others likely notice the same, but what's behind it?

I picked up some oversized apparel along with plenty of cooking tools and popcorn meant for the microwave.

I picked up ten pairs of those sneakers from a website while the discount was running but i have no idea if they came from the actual people though

It's kind of amusing that nearly all my footwear kept the same dimensions, aside from one old pair that suddenly worked for me after my feet apparently shrank a bit in bulk.

I grabbed a set without stopping to consider it further this time around though maybe the peps are getting inside my head.

IronLantern24archiveAug 3

My food bills have fallen well below half of previous totals lately. Buying protein shakes plus some other supplements still leaves me with lower overall spending than before.

I wonder about the timeframe involved along with the specific dose level applied when dropping body weight from two hundred fifty five pounds down to one hundred sixty five.

IronLantern24archiveAug 4

Last year I managed to drop fifty pounds completely independently by following keto. From the start of the current year I began using zero point five milligrams of reta in the initial week. Over time I raised the amount little by little reaching six milligrams each week once I achieved my goal weight several weeks earlier.

I gave up on my usual approach and switched to a classic air-based popcorn maker instead. Warm newly popped kernels have this unique appeal when they emerge from the gadget that makes a noise like a blow dryer. 🤣

↳ replying to @PatientHarbour28

I'm a big fan of this one too. Only a bit of oil and sugar is needed so it doesn't get too sweet. The idea is to enjoy the popcorn's own corn taste.

These days I hardly ever grab treats or beverages since they barely cross my mind. The change feels odd because it came about without any effort. Though lately I've put more cash into outfits instead. Never before could I appreciate how garments actually fit my body, so now I find buying them enjoyable. Seems the funds once used on meals just went toward other stuff. 😅

I think you might notice this effect yourself before long. It doesn't come just from the medication by itself, though that helped me stick to better habits over the past year. After I stopped having treats and sweets, suddenly things like tomatoes that I used to avoid now seem sweet and appealing. Lots of other items I used to find uninteresting or even unpleasant now taste really good, and they happen to be nutritious ones. My system adjusted after leaving behind the processed stuff, so wholesome options started seeming much nicer.

IronCinder88archiveAug 4

I've lost all desire for coffee these days. Is this something others are experiencing? Previously I would try hard to avoid consuming several servings over the course of daytime hours in order to operate. Currently I stop caring about my single early serving before completing it. Moreover the flavor doesn't appeal to me the way it did previously.

SharpAlder96archiveAug 4

I always feel this unstoppable urge to sign up for every shared purchase deal that appears because I fear the items could face restrictions very soon with no further options left after that.

KeenFenwick72archiveAug 4
↳ replying to @IronCinder88

Back then I could go through eight in one day, but lately two is plenty for me. At times I don't make it all the way through the second.

Hey folks. My urge for booze has vanished completely. The exact same thing applies to chocolate along with other sugary snacks. Probably tied to dopamine changes.

QuietPebble46archiveAug 4

Someone told me about booze and I'm keen to try it after starting. Even with my low drinking habits the cravings linger on.

SteadyBeacon64archiveAug 4

I've cut out alcohol and cut back on coffee quite a bit. I'm snacking much less as well. My mind has more room to breathe. Tension is way lower. I'm really prioritizing wholesome eating and fresh ingredients now compared to how it was before.

KeenFenwick72archiveAug 4

The side effects that bother me most aren't the weirdest ones but rather the way my legs won't stay still combined with how my skin reacts to touch. These sensations aren't always there they appear and disappear throughout the hours making it hard to stay seated for work at my computer all day. Even the process of toweling off following a bath seems off in a way I can't quite explain though it doesn't hurt just irritates me. This began once I hit two milligrams and continues now that I'm at three.

CopperBeacon48archiveAug 4

This has turned into my main spot lately since we're progressing through clothing sizes at such a quick rate.

SteadyCinder62archiveAug 4

It was odd how my nail chewing and skin picking habits disappeared without notice. The anxious gum munching I did aggressively on road trips also ended abruptly out of nowhere.

PlainQuill67archiveAug 4

Yeah, not limited to meals but other compulsive habits too, for instance the mental pull around eating fades, and those urges quiet down a lot.

RustLantern55archiveAug 4
↳ replying to @NorthWillow72

Time to mention yet another device for preparing food. For a long time popcorn cooked in the microwave was my go-to snack. Now though going back to it just won't happen.

RustLantern55archiveAug 4
↳ replying to @SteadyCinder62

After you brought up that picking habit I realized mine had gone away too. In the past I would compulsively yank out body hairs on my limbs and underarms using tweezers over and over because the action brought pleasure. The smoothness lasted much longer when compared with shaving. It does seem odd. Yet the behavior ended on its own and no longer enters my thoughts. I hadn't linked it with Tirz possibly disrupting addictive patterns. Bizarre.

RustLantern55archiveAug 4

My intake stayed limited to roughly four or five one-milligram amounts of reta. The skin sensations felt off-putting, and anhedonia appeared as well.

RustLantern55archiveAug 4
↳ replying to @WryHarbour70

I share that feeling completely. Weird produce items appeal to me a lot lately. Plenty of Brussels sprouts make it into my meals, along with lima beans which is surprising even to me. Haha.

KeenFenwick72archiveAug 4
↳ replying to @RustLantern55

Anhedonia really bothers me a lot. The weird sensations on my skin aren't too bad, but my sex drive dropped a ton from the anhedonia, and stress had already made it lower before that. I thought about trying tadalafil but I couldn't find any way to get it.

What I liked most was how it helped my mind. My spirits improved, I felt more driven, and the gloom lifted. Perhaps that's tied to not obsessing over meals or cravings all the time. I also dropped my everyday habit of getting high. The food costs remain elevated though. With the warm season here, my teenager, parent, and the kids along with their pals keep showing up at the house. I have no issue with that.

RustLantern55archiveAug 4

I've noticed that item turning up in multiple spots online so I could point out a couple locations. Other compounds like melanotan 2 along with PT141 and kisspeptin might be worth looking into when focusing on sex drive. My own use is pretty limited though just a pair of mt2 shots aimed at getting some color.

The most unexpected change for me involved dropping fifty pounds, which shrunk my feet by an entire size and narrowed them from extra broad to standard width. I figured my midsection would slim down, yet it caught me off guard that my feet had been carrying extra weight too. Likewise, I no longer enjoy the flavor of coffee. The same goes for red wine and cigars. It's likely beneficial that these items now hold less appeal for me overall.

GreyFenwick31archiveAug 4

Education takes up nearly all my available hours, leaving almost none for making purchases. That led to a smaller statement from the card company covering the prior period. Even so, everything went into virtual coins instead.

CopperBeacon24archiveAug 4

Before this medication I was really into top-grade beans and used an upscale machine for making it. Since beginning tirz my enthusiasm has faded so much that I just stir instant powder into water straight from the faucet.

LevelAnchor29archiveAug 4

Unexpectedly this treatment appears to assist with my attention issues. My concentration level exceeds what it was prior to beginning the medication. When added to my standard prescriptions the result benefits me greatly. Although it doesn't resolve everything I find myself accomplishing more in general.

I share my wildly indulgent Brussels sprouts bake smothered in cream sauce. This dish appears just once annually and solely if my heart doctor stays within quick reach.

We pull ours out during the spooky holiday when the costumed children and accompanying grownups come by. It requires grease and corn, functioning superbly.

IronHarbour22archiveAug 4

Out of nowhere comes this hankering for chickpeas that has me putting them next to my midday meal daily without ever growing weary of the habit. Beats me.

PatientHarbour28archiveAug 4

Whoa, that's a terrible idea. Those tanks aren't built for making water safe to consume. Most end up leaching metals into what's been heated. There's a rod inside that sheds material to keep the container from rusting. A ton of folks have no clue it's a sneaky risk to health. Health officials all agree you shouldn't ever drink from the hot side or use it in food prep or for infant formula. Seriously, look it up yourself.

RustLantern55archiveAug 4
↳ replying to @LevelAnchor29

This has me thrilled! I am definitely going to create one myself. Appreciate the idea!

SlowLantern99archiveAug 4

These meds have totally erased my urge to drink. When I do have something now, which isn't often, I stick to just a single serving or maybe two at most, usually only if it's right there. My longtime passion for canned fish has also disappeared; it was something I enjoyed for years, and during the initial period on the medication I had it several times a week. Over time that tapered off, and these days I might have some once every few weeks. I still enjoy the taste, yet the pull isn't there like before. The other compound strangely created an intense craving for sugary treats that I never experienced growing up. While I did appreciate desserts like most people who carry extra weight, I didn't actively seek them. Within a short time after starting it, I began purchasing large chocolate bars regularly and would slowly consume them over several days to ease those urges.

GreyFenwick31archiveAug 4

Man, daily consumption of heated faucet water is my thing. Explains the glow I show once night falls.

NorthWillow72archiveAug 4
↳ replying to @GreyFenwick31

I remember starting meals by adding warm tap water because I figured it would reach a boil sooner. These days I avoid that approach.

RustLantern55archiveAug 4

My kid was seven when doctors found lymphoma, prompting us to add a reverse osmosis filter below the sink. Since then we've embraced a more natural lifestyle overall. There's real peace in knowing the water we drink at home is purified.

My ability to taste things has shifted quite a bit, I have to say. It's good that healthier options now seem more appealing to me. On top of that, foods I used to enjoy end up tasting awful, almost like they have a weird artificial flavor. It's such a big difference that I'm starting to think maybe my tongue got swapped out without me knowing.

GreyFenwick31archiveAug 4
↳ replying to @NorthWillow72

Our spot up in the hills had tap water with this odd metallic flavor. Sure sure everyone jokes but that setup handed me endless amounts of the peptide at no cost. Later on we swapped out the pump along with the heating unit. I really don't want to think about everything that ended up inside me.

BlueAlder28archiveAug 4
↳ replying to @PatientHarbour28

Huh, that hadn't crossed my mind earlier, yet I notice it happening myself. Those crisp greens really carry more flavor, and I end up pouring on smaller amounts of sauce. Fresh herbs like basil fit in the same way, along with other seasonings.

GreyFenwick31archiveAug 4
↳ replying to @RustLantern55

Yikes that must have been awful. It's nice everything worked out and I'm wishing your daughter stays totally fine now.

CopperBeacon24archiveAug 4
↳ replying to @PatientHarbour28

Maybe I overstated things a little earlier. What I really intended was that boiling the water in a pot works, yet using water straight from the faucet would be fine too. Appreciate the details though. I wasn't aware of that.
