Stopping Reta.. mood issues?

11 replies11 peopleJun 15, 2026β˜† Follow
Summary

What mood changes happen after suddenly stopping retatrutide and how long until they resolve?

One user reported mood problems after quitting 8 mg weekly cold turkey once at goal weight. Others noted possible anhedonia or flatness on the drug that improved after a month off, while one person felt better and more like themselves after stopping. Several suggested slow titration down instead of abrupt cessation because of the long half-life, and pointed to calorie deficit or electrolytes as other possible causes of low mood.

What this discussion establishesWhere people disagree

Whether mood issues stem mainly from the drug itself, from stopping it, or from weight-loss side effects like under-eating.

I've hit my goal weight and quit Reta completely after using a high dose. Stopping suddenly brought on some mood problems. Does this happen often? How long before they fade? What did others go through? Edit: correction, meant 8 mg weekly πŸ˜…

Was the dose really 8 mg every day, adding up to 56 mg weekly? Just confirming.

Assuming you meant 8 mg weekly. Reta can bring on anhedonia. I felt flat with no interest in anything and lost libido after eight weeks on it. Stopping for a month helped. Others mentioned fast weight loss, big calorie gaps, or low electrolytes could also explain the same symptoms.

Next time taper gradually, like 6 mg the following week then 4 mg. Reta stays in the body for 34 days, and once it's gone hunger can return strongly so prepare for that.

Hope that wasn't the case. I'm five pounds from goal and trying to figure out a maintenance dose. I'm currently at 8 mg and plan to step down to 4 mg. I don't intend to stop Reta entirely. I've already dropped 50 lbs and expect to reach 55, with some stubborn belly fat that I hope continues to come off with the shots plus exercise.

After four weeks the body holds under 10 % of the peak cumulative dose, roughly equal to 12 mg at an 8 mg weekly schedule. There is light at the end of the tunnel.

I was also at 8 mg with my final dose at the end of May, so I'm now past two weeks. I stopped abruptly too, figuring the long half-life would handle the washout. My experience has been the opposite of mood trouble. I feel great and back to myself. I should have quit earlier. Where do you think your mood issues are coming from? Are you feeling down, tired, or fatigued?

A couple of ideas. Mood dips and lower sex drive, assuming hormones are normal, might come from not eating enough. Also, I wouldn't stop Reta suddenly. Taper slowly, maybe 1 mg less each week, hold there for a week or two, then drop to 0.5 mg before ending. A transition phase plus other non-GLP-1 peptides could help keep weight loss and energy going while setting a new baseline.

Honestly, people treat anhedonia like it's always negative. I barely feel half the emotions I used to and it's been fine. Life has been rough lately but I've just been in the gym relaxed. Haven't come off yet so I'll report back in a few years I guess.

I notice I get irritable after barely eating all day. It's like being hangry without realizing it.
