Do you feel like shit after eating?

18 replies11 peopleOct 16, 2026☆ Follow
Summary

why do I feel sick and tired after meals on this glp-1 type medication and how can I reduce it

Users report post-meal discomfort that is strongest right after dosing and improves later in the week. Rapid dose increases after switching from another medication appear to intensify the effect because of accumulation. Smaller portions, lower-fat choices, and slower titration are suggested as ways to ease symptoms, though some still feel ill even with modest meals.

What this discussion establishesWhere people disagree

how aggressive the dose escalation from 2 mg to 5 mg actually is and whether four weeks at the starting dose is required

Still open

whether the side effects will lessen with more time at the current dose or if a reduction is necessary

Nothing here is advice.

On 5 mg I don't notice much except feeling off, worn out, and lousy once I eat. Bigger meals hit harder but even normal ones leave me wiped out for a couple hours. Any way to ease that? I've been using it roughly six weeks now.

Does it last the full week or mainly right after the shot? Might be worth lowering the amount.

Started with 2 mg and stayed there two weeks before going higher, thinking the prior medication meant it wouldn't register otherwise.

It depends where I am in the week after the shot. First couple days usually yes, later in the week not so much. Mood is separate.

That info would clarify things. The sensation is common especially early on. Are you positive you didn't eat too much?

Could be the medication reaching full effect all at once from the buildup. After the fourth shot you'd have gone from nothing to over 8 mg on board, which might explain stronger reactions.

You moved from 2 to 5 after only two weeks? That jump plus the accumulation probably explains it. I'd lower the dose if the bad feeling after meals keeps happening.

Smaller meals and cutting back on fatty foods might help for now. If it's still bad after six weeks even with normal amounts, better to check with whoever prescribed it instead of just dealing with it.

A few comments here line up with what I've heard. Plenty of people had avoidable reactions because the dose went up too fast or food choices weren't adjusted. The medication slows stomach emptying, so heavy or greasy meals sit longer and cause more discomfort. Sugary items can spike and crash blood sugar, adding to the tired feeling. Fizzy drinks add extra gas that makes things worse.

Why ruin a perfectly good Friday like that?

There's always a trade-off. Sometimes the small after-effect is worth it. On another note it's the first cool front here, high only around 70 and dropping to the 50s tonight. Planning spicy soup with a diet soda and plenty of salsa on the side. Might pay for it later but it feels worth it.

I get sick if I go even two or three bites past the right amount. Been dealing with it nearly a year. I've had to train myself to stop by thinking one more bite will make me feel terrible. It works most of the time.

I inject Monday and the rough feeling lasts most of the week, easing up by Saturday. First dose was 2 mg for two weeks then up to 5 mg.

Where did the dosing guidance come from? Going from 2 to 5 isn't the worst but it's fairly quick. You might be over the right level now; stretching the current amount over a few extra days could soften the impact. Hope it improves soon.

Had pad thai and felt like throwing up. Same thing last week after a meal out at a steakhouse. Basically can't eat at restaurants anymore without feeling awful, even when the portion isn't big.

How'd you arrive at that total? Moving way too fast. It's not a race.

Can't recall the exact spot the advice came from, either here or another forum. The point was that after the previous medication at a high level I needed to begin higher to notice anything.

Got it. There was a chart somewhere showing starting amounts based on the prior medication dose, so 2 mg fits for someone not new to these drugs. The concern is more about how fast the increase happened and skipping the usual four weeks at the lower level. A three-milligram jump at once feels risky to me, especially since I had a rough time moving from 2 to 4 mg myself.
