Diet and Muscle Retention While Using Retatrutide

Summary

How to keep muscle while losing fat on retatrutide, including macros and training practices

Users report that resistance training five times weekly plus high protein intake preserved strength and limited muscle loss during several kilograms of weight reduction on low-dose retatrutide. Existing phase-3 data on retatrutide itself is unavailable, so advice draws mainly from longer-studied GLP-1 agents and personal logs. Anecdotes stress keeping protein near one gram per pound of target lean mass and using occasional refeeds or creatine to maintain glycogen. No concrete evidence was supplied for claims that very low-carb diets become dangerous or that extra peptides are required.

Whether retatrutide requires different macronutrient ratios than other GLP-1 drugs or poses unique risks on very low carbohydrate intakes

Nothing here is advice.

I'm leaning toward retatrutide for body recomposition because of the study results and many positive reports I've come across. Muscle loss is still my main worry though. I've tried to read up on how it works, at least the three pathways, and it looks better than other GLP drugs for holding onto muscle, but it's hard to separate confident personal stories from actual research. People keep saying it doesn't mix with very low carb eating and might even be risky, yet nothing I've seen sounds like more than gym talk. Others claim you need certain extra peptides or you'll drop muscle no matter how much protein and lifting you do. I'm not interested in adding those. Does anyone have real retatrutide-specific research on macros or solid habits that help keep muscle while cutting fat on this drug? If not, even decent long-term personal experiences would help.

A comparable discussion showed up the day before.

You're asking a fair question but in the wrong way. We still don't have any phase-3 paper on retatrutide. How would we already have deeper studies on its effect on muscle? Anything that did exist would probably come from the company and be framed to look as good as possible. You'd be better off checking research on GLP drugs that have been around for years and then seeing how well those findings might apply here.

Appreciate you letting me know. I believe I've already answered a question much like this one before.

Here's what happened with me, in case it helps. I had just finished an anabolic cycle three months earlier and was worried about losing muscle. I started retatrutide in April at 2 mg a week, split into two 1 mg doses. Weight went from 97 kg down to 91 kg. My calories sit at 1800 with 160 g carbs, 175 g protein (sometimes more), and 55 g fat. I lift five days a week. Some size came off but it was mostly water. Strength has stayed the same. Creatine helps muscles look fuller, and a refeed day can top up glycogen. As long as you lift and keep protein high you should be fine.

Look up that guy on YouTube who talks about exactly this. Keep protein high and keep doing weight-bearing work. I'm 59, started at 180 lb and 18 % body fat, now 160 lb at 12 % body fat, and didn't lose any muscle. You have to hit at least one gram of protein per pound of your target lean weight and you have to train the muscle you want to keep. Other things can help but those two are non-negotiable. Five years ago I was 250 lb at 36 % body fat, dropped a lot on carnivore and held it, but these compounds and better info have improved the results. Good luck.

Going from 180 lb at 18 % to 160 lb at 12 % with no muscle lost means you dropped 10 lb of fat. What accounts for the other 10 lb that came off?

BBQ sauce, of course.
