My plans for dropping 30lbs. - 55yo male

Summary

How can a 55-year-old man lose 30 pounds with retatrutide while protecting muscle and handling visceral fat?

Users report steady progress with slow retatrutide titration, high protein intake, and added strength work. Several stack tesamorelin for visceral fat reduction and note better sleep and recovery. Most stress that exercise and protein are required to limit muscle loss, and some combine GHK-Cu with other compounds for skin and tissue support. Bloodwork stayed normal in one detailed account after reaching goal weight.

What this discussion establishesWhere people disagree

Some view tesamorelin as a useful stack while others see retatrutide alone as sufficient; opinions also differ on how much exercise is mandatory versus optional during the cut.

Still open

Optimal long-term maintenance dose after goal weight and whether visceral-fat calculators reliably replace imaging remain open.

Nothing here is advice.

I want to lose 30 pounds from 196 down to 175 at 5 foot 10 with a pear-shaped waist. Desk work keeps me inactive most days, though I still carry some muscle from training years ago. After looking into options I think retatrutide fits my needs and I intend to increase the dose very gradually to limit stomach problems. My biggest worry is muscle loss, so I am wondering what else could be added to protect it. I also plan to add GHK-Cu for hair thinning and sun-damaged skin and would like to know how well the two work together. Any other suggestions are welcome.

Plenty of people run both at the same time, myself included.

Focus on eating enough protein from meat, eggs, bars and powder while adding some strength training. A multi-vitamin and electrolytes round things out and should get you to your target.

Agreed. Tesamorelin works well at 2 mg Monday through Friday before bed with weekends off. Run that schedule for about six months and visceral fat drops noticeably along with some abdominal subcutaneous fat.

Keep protein high, stay on retatrutide, and begin with simple body-weight moves like sit-ups. Start with just one or two and add more over time. Later you can add push-ups and maybe pull-ups using a table. In six months the change will be clear and that pear shape should reverse.

Just checking, are you suggesting tesamorelin instead of retatrutide? What makes you lean that way?

I am 52 and started retatrutide early December. So far I have dropped 35 pounds from 210 to 175. Dosing began at 0.5 mg for two weeks, moved to 1 mg twice weekly for three weeks, then increased by 1 mg every two weeks up to 5 mg. I am now planning a slow reduction since the target is reached. Daily KLOW helped with inflammation and I added tesamorelin for visceral fat plus better sleep and recovery. Recent labs looked good and overall I feel stronger. Muscle did decrease because exercise was only walking and treadmill, so now I am shifting to weights three times a week to rebuild. Results took five to six weeks to appear, so patience helps.

You are heading in a good direction by starting slow. Consider a blend like GLOW or KLOW rather than GHK-Cu by itself. Without training you will lose muscle even on retatrutide, so protein intake and workouts are necessary. I dropped muscle while losing 30 pounds despite regular gym time, so the same risk applies here. You will still end up healthier overall.

Good to see others in their fifties doing this. Remember to build muscle back. Used equipment is easy to find right now and I recently picked up a bench with weights and leg attachment at a low cost.

I am not suggesting tesamorelin in place of retatrutide or tirzepatide. Stack them. Tesamorelin works mainly on visceral fat and pairs well when someone also builds an exercise habit and improves daily habits.

Understood, my mistake. Thanks for clarifying.

I used retatrutide only. At 66 I started at 215 aiming for 170-175 after gaining post-retirement. Dosing was 2 mg for four weeks, then 4 mg for four weeks, and now at 5 mg. Average loss is 2.5 pounds per week and I am down 25 pounds so far. Protein from meat and powder plus fresh vegetables in smaller portions while watching carbs has worked. Lighter weights arrive tomorrow to help regain strength. The process has not been difficult.

Desk work plus ongoing stress harms health more than many realize. Excess weight speeds the conversion of testosterone to estrogen and a pear shape often signals higher estrogen. Weight loss will improve many areas, yet adding exercise brings extra benefits for hormones, mood, and appearance.

At 55 with a desk job, using more than just GHK-Cu makes sense during a cut because connective tissue may need extra support to keep training uninterrupted. Two milligrams has worked for a month without any need to raise it yet, and five pounds have already come off along with some water weight. If you are open to more peptides, tesamorelin or a CJC-IPA blend are often praised for visceral fat. Given the pear shape there is likely a fair amount present, and a simple online calculator can give a rough idea.
