How to break through a plateau?

18 replies13 peopleJul 29, 2026☆ Follow
Summary

Why has weight loss stalled on retatrutide after adding tesamorelin and how to restart progress?

The stall after 14 kg loss appears tied to water retention from tesamorelin plus recent fruit intake rather than true fat regain. Participants stress that CICO still governs results, so calories must drop or activity rise once weight stabilizes, while retatrutide dose can be increased for better appetite control. Most advise patience at only 2.5 months in, focusing on measurements over scale numbers and waiting for fluid to settle before judging tesamorelin.

What this discussion establishesWhere people disagree

Whether tesamorelin should be added early for visceral fat or saved until near goal weight with only stubborn areas left.

Still open

How long any water retention from tesamorelin will last and whether continuing it at this stage is worthwhile.

Nothing here is advice.

Hi everyone. Been using Reta for roughly two and a half months at 2.5 mg twice a week. The scale moved steadily downward and I dropped 14 kg overall. Then about a week and a half ago, right after starting Tesa, the numbers started climbing instead. I am back at 131 kg after a low of 129 kg and feel unsure what to change. Motivation is slipping because 130 kg has always felt like an unbreakable limit, even when I exercised five days a week years ago. I keep doing 17/18 to noon fasting. Before the last couple weeks I stuck to strict carnivore, but summer fruit like watermelon and raspberries crept in. The deficit is still around 750-1000 kcal daily. Early on the scale gave new lows almost every day, so this stall feels discouraging.

ClearLantern70archiveJul 29

High-fat or low-fat carnivore? Any exercise happening? Could be a fresh balance point or simply needs longer to show movement. That size of deficit is substantial, so hang in there.

One and a half weeks does not count as a real stall yet. Daily ups and downs from water, hormones and similar factors are normal. Over months the math of calories in versus out still rules. As weight falls the body needs fewer calories to stay at the new size, so intake must be lowered or output raised or both. Reta assists but does not replace that effort later on. Track calories, choose high-protein high-fiber foods, and add lifting to keep muscle that burns more at rest.

Tesa holds onto water. That is the extra weight you are seeing.

High-fat approach here, though not pure carnivore anymore. More like carnivore plus fruit, still no junk. Daily movement is just household and garden work. I am even starting to question whether Tesa belongs in the plan at all.

Many start Tesa too soon. It fits better once body fat is already low yet some belly fat lingers. I am aiming for 10 percent and will only think about it then if a six-pack still does not show. Using it above 10-12 percent body fat does not seem useful.

SharpThistle77archiveJul 29

Tesa does not boost fat loss. It is a researched compound whose body-recomposition changes fade once use stops.

I hit a similar slowdown on Tirz after fast early losses. It paused for months then moved slowly again. The key was locking in the right dose and staying consistent rather than chasing changes. These medicines need time. Tesa is said to cause water retention. What made you add it?

Tesa was meant to target visceral fat first because that seems more important than the fat under the skin. The released fatty acids still have to be burned, but clearing the belly area was the priority.

The recent fruit carbs plus Tesa are both likely causing water. Most of the small gain is probably fluid, not fat. Visceral fat still decreases from overall loss without needing Tesa yet. Save targeted use for closer to goal weight.

IronHarbour22archiveJul 29

Reta already hits visceral fat hard, so adding Tesa for that purpose does not make sense to me. I would wait until goal weight and then consider it only for recomp.

CopperSignal27archiveJul 30

True plateaus come after a year or longer on solid doses. The 14 kg drop in ten weeks probably mixed water and fat. Adding Tesa then introduced fluid that will remain until the peptide stops. If daily calories stayed the same, fat loss is likely continuing at the prior rate even if the scale does not show it. The pace is not extreme. Raising the Reta dose could be worth trying, and motivation may return once hunger drops further.

Water retention from Tesa often fades after a few weeks. This stage is still early in a long process, so watch how you feel instead of fixating on the scale.

I restarted GH right after beginning Reta and saw the scale climb at first, then drop again after roughly two weeks.

Next time I may try 3 mg instead of 2.5 mg or look at adding Cagri. The motivation dip might come from expecting daily drops or from the old 130 kg barrier that never budged before despite medication. Hunger is not strong, yet a background urge remains even during long fasts. I plan to keep Tesa at 2 mg daily Monday through Friday for now and see what happens. Talking here has already helped restore some drive.

Two and a half months is still the beginning while the body adjusts. A smart scale might show fat dropping even if water rises. Adding simple resistance work, even with bands, helps. Tracking waist size instead of only weight revealed continued improvement during my own stalls. I switched to a single weekly bolus and later shortened the interval after a recent pause, which helped.

PlainSignal90archiveJul 30

When the dose is adequate the mental pull becomes easier to manage. Short pauses of a week or two are normal noise when the deficit is real. I also held water recently, possibly from sermorelin, yet the scale resumed moving once the fluid passed.

KeenKettle50archiveAug 1

CICO remains strict regardless of the drug. Reta raises metabolic rate but cannot override the balance. Before starting I could not break 240 lb without extreme fasting. Now with added compounds my weight is still above that mark yet waist size dropped 10 cm. Daily calorie intake was never mentioned.

BrightBramble77archiveAug 3

Yesterday sat around 130.5 kg. After plenty of water, tea, and garden work in the heat the evening reading returned to 129.2 kg despite the fluids. Upping Reta by half or one milligram per week is the next step to test. Shorts slipping off is currently the main side effect.
