Reta is a great tool, combined with diet, it's a game changer!!

Summary

How much weight can someone lose on reta with a simple high-protein diet and slow dose increases?

One user reports dropping from 490 lb to within 8 lb of a 200s weight in 15 weeks on reta, using a gradual schedule up to 4 mg weekly and 800-1200 calories of lean protein plus vegetables daily. Others mostly offer congratulations while one raises concerns about the pace of loss and possible gallbladder strain. The original poster states they feel fine and recent bloodwork is normalizing.

Not medical advice, just what worked in my case. I took my time raising the dose to let my body adapt. First five weeks at 1 mg each week, then weeks six through nine at 2 mg, and from week ten on at 4 mg weekly. I've stayed at that level for a while now and intend to keep it until I hit my target, then ease off later. For food I skipped fancy plans or cutting out whole categories. I just tried to hit protein with every meal, kept calories sensible without going hungry, drank plenty of water, and stopped when full instead of overdoing it. A normal day starts with a protein shake, maybe a homemade vanilla one mixed with 2 percent milk. Mid-morning I grab two hard-boiled eggs, some low-fat cottage cheese, or a bar if I'm out. Dinner is usually 120 to 150 grams of plain baked chicken breast or sometimes fish, plus plenty of vegetables like peas and carrots.

Congrats on the progress! This is great to see. Well done.

Dropping 15 lb from week 14 to 15 makes no sense. Shedding 5 lb a week over 15 weeks when you started at 386 lb sounds risky.

I started at 490 lb, got down near 400, then began reta, pushed hard, and the weight has been coming off fast.

You get what that kind of speed can do to your gallbladder? Fifteen pounds in week 14 after gaining two the week before is extreme. That would mean a daily 5k calorie deficit, assuming 40 percent of the loss is lean tissue.

I stay between 800 and 1200 calories daily with lots of lean protein and vegetables. So far everything feels normal and my labs are finally settling back into a good range.

Nice work on the loss. I have nothing to offer someone who began at 490 pounds since I've never been anywhere near that. Watching the show about people at 600 pounds, the ones who stuck with it dropped huge amounts quickly. Your story sounds worth following. Keep updating us.

First target is any weight that starts with a 2. I'm eight pounds from that as of Sunday. After that I want to reach 100 pounds gone total. Eventually I'd like to land around 200. It feels distant now but the first 50 and then 75 seemed far too until they happened, so I know it's possible. Thanks for the encouragement.

Seventy-five pounds in 15 weeks is wild. Solid effort.

Really impressive. You're clearly putting in the effort. This isn't just using a medication and sitting back expecting results. Good job.

I think this choice will probably turn out to be the biggest positive change you've ever made. Well done.
