1st week?

Summary

how much weight do people lose in the first week starting tirzepatide or reta

First-week losses reported here range from about 2 to 6 pounds and are described mostly as water weight or reduced inflammation rather than fat. Starting doses were commonly 2.5 mg but some began lower due to sensitivity; several users noted quick improvements in joint pain and energy even while sick. Titration decisions varied, with some moving up on a schedule and others waiting for hunger to return. Longer-term results mentioned include steady loss around 1 lb per week on average and reduced need for blood-pressure medication.

Curious what others lost in their first week after beginning. Did most start at the usual 2.5 mg or go lower? Was that drop the biggest one? My first week I began at 1 mg because I'm sensitive and lost almost 2 lb after nearly seven days, though I also started my period and caught the flu along with everyone else at home. One thing I noticed is my usual body aches and morning foot pain felt about 80 percent better even while sick. Hoping that improvement lasts. Everyone is different but I'd like to hear how various experiences have gone.

I don't remember the exact number but it was around 5 lb the first week. That helped my motivation even though it isn't a reliable measure. I was at my heaviest and eating poorly when I began, then changed my diet completely, started tracking, and added exercise all at once. I view the medication as one extra tool while I do the rest of the work. I kept exercise increases small so I wouldn't quit. Started at 2.5 mg and stayed there for several months with steady loss before raising the dose slowly when progress slowed. Responded well to it while others have different results. Many factors play a role. My clothes fit better now and I feel improved each month. Still aiming for lower body fat but could be content here. Over the long term I've lost 55 lb in about 14 months, averaging just under 1 lb per week.

Congratulations on getting started. This medication helps many people. I don't recall my exact first-week loss or keep detailed notes, but many report a noticeable drop early on, likely water weight or reduced inflammation. I began at the standard 2.5 mg and increased fairly quickly, probably every eight weeks or so. Side effects were mild, mainly constipation, so raising the dose wasn't an issue. Current thinking is to go up only if hunger or food noise returns or loss stalls, provided the medication is tolerated. Hope you feel better soon and congrats again on finishing the first week.

I lost five pounds the first week. Almost none of it was fat. It came from a placebo effect plus the 2.2 mg dose that stopped me from overeating. Because I had been overeating before, which caused water retention from too many carbs and salt, the five pounds were mostly water that came off quickly.

The first week of the rest of your life isn't that important. I dropped 6 lb in week one and 10 lb total on one medication in the 29 days before switching, then 19 lb in the next 45 days on the new one, for 29 lb over 73 days. The 3 lb gain in early February is probably temporary water weight from beginning TRT.

Did you notice any difference between the two? Was your diet the same on both?

I eat whatever on both, though I make sure to get carbs on the second one. Feeling-wise the first one slowed lower digestion more, which I liked. I began exercising a week before switching and started TRT nine days after, so too many variables to compare them directly.

Good to hear you're starting. I was excited after the first week at 2.5 mg but decided to keep going and weigh again after two or three weeks at that level. Even now I don't recall a huge dramatic loss, just a few pounds each week that add up. I only stayed at 2.5 mg for one month then moved to 5 mg and so on because I worried supply might end and wanted to make progress first. That was probably a mistake. I should have stayed at each dose until hunger returned. Overall I lost a little over 50 lb in seven months and that's roughly where I am now. I made no real diet changes beyond eating less due to reduced appetite. I should have paid more attention to muscle loss and exercised regularly to keep it.

You mentioned starting on the first one then switching to the second. How many mg of each?

PatientCompass47archiveFeb 26

Dropped 6 lb my first week. Mostly water.

I was taking 2.5 mg twice a week of the first one. Right now I'm taking 4-5 mg twice weekly of the second one and might add some of the first back.

That's my first month on 2.5 mg: 16.09 lb.

I started at a 3 mg dose chosen for easy math with the vial size. Went up to 6 mg after the first month and am now at 7.5 mg. Lost 6 lb in the first week, which for me was six days between shots and weigh-ins. Roughly 3 lb a week after that. Stalled once or twice, which seems to happen when I drink a couple of protein shakes made with milk, probably a dairy issue since I'm lactose intolerant. Biggest benefits go beyond the scale. I was on three blood-pressure meds and had to drop two because of low readings and dizziness when standing. Less joint pain in knees and ankles too, though I have some skin sensitivity that feels like hair follicles are extra sensitive. Would like to see a doctor about the meds but I'm offshore for months at a time with no doctors available.
