Early morning training and MOTS-c timing

28 replies8 peopleApr 27, 2026☆ Follow
Summary

When should MOTS-c be taken for very early fasted gym sessions and what effects do users actually notice?

Users report injecting MOTS-c between 4-5am before training, either fully fasted or with pre-workout and some carbs shortly after. Several describe subtle steady energy or better endurance after a few doses while others feel nothing beyond possible insulin sensitivity improvements. Dosing ranges from daily low amounts to 5mg three times weekly, often alongside coffee or other compounds.

Need some advice on MOTS-c timing while training fasted. I start at 4:30am and usually take pre-workout with carbs beforehand. When do other early trainers inject it? Is it fine to dose before the session and then eat carbs half an hour later?

WarmWillow23archiveApr 27

I train at 5am and get up around 4 or 4:15. I inject around 4:25am. Timing probably does not matter much as long as it is in your system. I used to do 1-1.5mg every morning and recently switched to 2.5mg on Monday Wednesday Friday to cut down on shots. Honestly I have not felt much change.

Do you take pre-workout or eat before training or does the compound carry you through? I read it should be used fasted and I am concerned the pre-workout and carbs right after will waste the dose.

I have been using 7mg every other day at 5am on an empty stomach. It pairs well with black coffee. I head to the gym around 8am for twenty minutes of cardio then forty minutes of lifting. Even with the short half-life I feel it accumulating until the next shot. I am on week five of an eight-week run. It ranks near the top for me along with a couple of other compounds. I also ran another peptide for a month last November and have added it back alongside this one. I will take a break in May though I do not really want to.

How long have you been on it? I started two weeks ago and also have not noticed anything yet. I did 1mg daily the first week then moved to the common 5mg three times a week.

How long after the first dose did you start to feel a difference?

WarmSparrow60archiveApr 28

By the second dose I could clearly tell. Very clean energy without any jittery feeling.

I have also been on the 1mg daily protocol and noticed effects fairly quickly. The first three or four days I felt a bit flat and after that it became a mild constant energy buzz, nothing dramatic but enough to keep going. I might raise the dose a little and switch to every other day like others suggest.

Thanks. The only change I have noticed is that I no longer get the usual mild buzz from my pre-workout.

SlowSignal40archiveApr 28

Early starts like that give me the chills. Hard enough to sleep let alone wake up then. Training fasted can be useful depending on goals. MOTS-c acts like an exercise mimetic and current ones mainly copy aerobic benefits. From what users report the feeling is somewhat like what people get from certain stimulants but milder. The real value is the longer-term mitochondrial changes so that should be the main reason for using it.

It is not by choice. I have a newborn who wakes often at night and is up for the day at 5am so I try to finish training and get home to help. I usually head in when he wakes for a feed around 3 or 4am since I am already awake anyway.

I have some on the way. Is it best to dose right before training? Also do you inject on non-training days or only when you want the energy boost?

BrightMeadow28archiveApr 28
↳ replying to @SlowSignal40

Can you put that in plain English? I am a senior so I am up early anyway. Next thing I will be power walking the mall at opening time.

SlowSignal40archiveApr 28

First time anyone has asked me to translate my own words. Since you are a senior I will go easy. Exercise mimetics create the same bodily effects as actual exercise. This compound is one of the better current options for restoring energy at the cellular level. It is milder than certain stimulants but meant for ongoing use rather than short-term kicks.

Yes I used to inject every morning before training. I would still have some carbs from EAAs plus a fast carb source totaling about 25-30g along with caffeine before or during the session otherwise I would drop low. I think either way works fine. The compound does seem to improve how the body handles carbs. I have been on it since last October. Beyond better insulin sensitivity confirmed on my monitor I do not feel much else. No big energy or stimulant sensation for me. I see it as something running quietly in the background. How are you finding the three times a week schedule?

BrightMeadow28archiveApr 28
↳ replying to @WarmWillow23

I have not noticed anything. On the bodybuilding forum people talk about big energy gains and I was expecting something dramatic. I chose the three times weekly schedule just to avoid daily injections. I will keep going with it.

Have you noticed any change in endurance during sessions? I tried a higher amount this morning before legs and after an hour of heavy work I still felt I could keep going. Might be placebo.

Hard to judge fairly. I have been on TRT for the past year at a low prescribed dose but recently doubled it and added another compound split twice weekly. That addition lets me train daily without lingering soreness. I still feel wiped after long shoulder sessions but every set goes to failure. Workouts last ninety minutes to two hours and I have only taken two rest days since January.

BlueThistle36archiveApr 28

I cannot wait to start TRT. Getting bloodwork tomorrow and hoping the baby and broken sleep have lowered my levels enough. Tried six months ago but was just above the cutoff.

BrightMeadow28archiveApr 28
↳ replying to @BlueThistle36

I was not seeking TRT. I saw my doctor for severe depression and it turned out my testosterone was extremely low. After seeing a specialist the first injection made me feel great within two hours and the depression lifted just as fast.

Great outcome. Do you recall what your free and total levels were at the time?

BlueSignal49archiveApr 28

Slightly off topic but relevant for the early crowd. What time do you usually get to bed? I tried the gym at 4:30am for the first time, almost no one there and got a great session without waiting for equipment. I had gone to bed around 11pm which is not ideal and want to know how others manage the schedule.

This week I have been training at 3:30am and generally go to bed once the baby is down around 7-7:30pm. Only two other people in the gym that early which is great because I like to stick to my plan and dislike having to change it when machines are taken.

I cannot remember the exact numbers but the endocrinologist said he had never seen levels that low after months of no production.

BrightMeadow28archiveApr 28
↳ replying to @BlueSignal49

I had to look up that term. I usually go to bed at 9:30pm but I am older so I am up at 4am and often cannot fall back asleep properly. I train at 8am once the main crowd has left. Going earlier was a mistake I will not repeat.

I did a lot of reading yesterday after ordering. I had researched beforehand but forum comments about huge energy made me expect a strong stimulant effect. It is not a stimulant. It works by supporting cellular energy production. Since starting about a week and a half ago I have lost two pounds which is more than usual for me in that timeframe and my scale shows a small muscle increase. I also added roughly 25 percent more reps on the same weights though it could just be normal progress. I will keep tracking.

SharpCinder28archiveApr 29

What about this advice from another forum?

BrightMeadow28archiveApr 29
↳ replying to @SharpCinder28

I am not trying to bulk. I have dropped from 160 pounds in January down to 141 now. Training is part of my routine and helps protect muscle while using another compound. My shirts used to be tight on my arms and now there is a gap which is the goal.
