What kind of deficits are y'all running?

Summary

What calorie deficits are people running while using GLP-1 medications for weight loss?

Users describe daily intakes mostly between 1000-2000 calories, producing weekly losses of 1-2 lbs on average though some see faster or slower rates. Many rely on appetite suppression rather than strict tracking and focus on hitting protein targets while accepting that TDEE drops as weight falls. A few maintain higher activity levels to support larger deficits without dropping intake too low.

What this discussion establishesWhere people disagree

Everyone recommends dropping weight at a rate of one or two pounds each week by cutting back around five hundred to a thousand calories. Still I notice folks using those medications claim they consume just a thousand to twelve hundred calories daily and that seems like a massive cut for my situation. I'm wondering about the amounts others are managing.

NorthKettle51archiveOct 28, 2025

My weekly drop comes to around two point one pounds on the scale. Daily intake sits between twelve hundred and fourteen hundred calories. I make sure to hit protein in the ninety five to one twenty five gram range and fiber between twenty and twenty five grams. Water consumption stays at two to four liters throughout the day. At one hundred eighty nine pounds I walk a normal amount but really put off any strength sessions.

LevelThistle83archiveOct 28, 2025

Tracking with an application I target two pounds lost per week. I stay aware of maintaining muscle during fat loss so the recommendation is twenty four hundred calories yet my actual intake lands between sixteen hundred and two thousand on the drug.

SlowTimber64archiveOct 28, 2025

At five foot four and two hundred twenty one pounds the deficit I worked out comes to around fifteen hundred calories. Lately though my daily intake sits closer to one thousand or twelve hundred on average. That feels off and leaves me concerned I could end up needing to drop intake even lower later on.

WarmFenwick32archiveOct 29, 2025

I've dropped twenty pounds across two months which suggests a steady shortfall around eleven to twelve hundred calories each day. Workouts now only torch about five hundred daily instead of the earlier thousand before that medication all because drive is missing. Nearing my target at eighty five kilos and six foot three.

GreenPebble53archiveOct 29, 2025

I do 1-1.2k ish daily

WryMeadow18archiveOct 29, 2025

I'm wondering about people discussing calorie cuts above a thousand – did they begin with reductions that big right away or increase them over time once their progress started to stall?

My starting point was already quite elevated without any help, and reta took it even higher. Eventually I discovered a level that worked sustainably for several months while still being quick enough. 1300 daily felt insufficient but 1500-1700 turned out ideal. Testing things personally with a focus on the long run makes sense, and if just beginning one should pick the moderate path.

When pounds come off more slowly it means the gap between what goes in and what gets used has narrowed. Figuring out shifts in how the body handles energy turns out trickier than tracking food eaten or power generated while moving.

CopperThistle86archiveOct 29, 2025

I put a straightforward basal metabolic rate estimator into the little tracking sheet I use for myself. The initial allowance for daily intake while keeping up a calorie shortage shrinks as the weight comes off. In my situation that has added up to 650 calories fewer each day since I have shed 106 pounds to date.

SharpSignal42archiveOct 29, 2025

During the past thirty one weeks my weight loss has averaged one point fourteen pounds every week because of the medication. I never track my food intake since doing that always ends up making me feel insane. These types of treatments are amazing for that reason as they adjust my hunger in a perfect way automatically.

It struck me that everyday folks without those medications probably go through their days feeling just like this. Counting my food proportions over a whole decade has turned the whole thing into an automatic routine.

Yeah I feel the same. Tracking all my food numbers grew exhausting and quit delivering any changes for me.

SlowTimber64archiveOct 30, 2025

Tracking my energy intake really gets on my nerves. My food amounts stay pretty minimal these days, so I end up double-checking that my totals hit around a thousand calories plus roughly eighty grams of protein.

WrySparrow78archiveOct 30, 2025

I agree with that approach. I steer clear of junk most of the time though a single treat does not ruin everything. My routine involves around six hundred calories prior to supper consisting of coffee mixed with cream plus a pair of shakes providing forty two grams of protein. For the main meal I choose a sensible option like low fat meat along with a vegetable and perhaps some bread. Afterwards I have some whiskey followed by medication for my condition. This brings my daily total to between fifteen hundred and nineteen hundred calories. The method has been effective since I have dropped fifty pounds over seventeen weeks which averages nearly three pounds each week. Right now I weigh three hundred three pounds and still need to shed sixty more. I am a six foot tall man aged forty five.

SharpLantern71archiveOct 30, 2025

I tracked my daily intake carefully at twelve hundred calories. Over eleven months that led to dropping one hundred eleven pounds, moving my body mass index from thirty nine down to twenty one point two. The daily shortfall came to between six and eight hundred calories, which varied based on the estimates from those total daily energy expenditure tools since lighter bodies require less energy overall. These days I'm focused on keeping my weight steady but the main challenge is that I'm still shedding about a pound each month so I have to figure out how to eat more. I'm working on balancing my food intake with my medication and it's an ongoing process.

SteadyAlder49archiveNov 1, 2025

My daily calorie target lands between eighteen hundred and two thousand. Since maintenance sits near twenty eight hundred I keep the shortfall under a thousand. Reaching even twelve hundred felt tough early on but my hunger has settled so the dose isn't increasing quickly. At the moment I'm using one milligram on alternate days and I've dropped eighty pounds. Fiber intake stays difficult because those beverages taste unpleasant yet I still reach two hundred grams of protein each day to hold onto muscle.

SteadyQuill55archiveNov 1, 2025

My calorie intake is on an odd kind of restriction. I usually make three meals that each come in near three hundred calories, though sometimes a fourth one gets added if hunger shows up later at night. Beverages go uncounted, and I steer clear of anything sweet to avoid problems, yet coffee runs all day long with creamer stirred in. The calories from that addition stay unknown to me. Past attempts at logging it never stuck, and my interest in trying again is low, so I skip it. Twenty five pounds have come off since the end of July when this began, though the rate has eased. One medication amount is moving up slightly from five to six while the other stays at point three to ease a bit of tiredness, and I'm also raising my activity level. Should a real plateau arrive, my approach will get another look.

NorthMarble42archiveNov 6, 2025

My daily intake usually falls somewhere between fifteen hundred and eighteen hundred calories, shifting with how packed my day gets and whether I feel like eating much. I aim to meet my protein targets each day, which has produced a consistent drop of one or two pounds weekly. Plateaus pop up now and then, yet right now I'm under fifteen pounds from my target. On top of that I train five or six days a week doing CrossFit plus mixed sessions.

NorthSparrow11archiveNov 6, 2025

I kept trimming my intake five hundred below maintenance until landing at fifteen hundred calories. Earlier on whenever I slipped beneath that point I would end up tired and drained.

RustSparrow16archiveNov 6, 2025

My daily intake sits between 1350 and 1400 calories, though it climbs now and then when I go out to eat with others. It works out to roughly 1400 on average. That feels odd because right now I'm dropping about half a kilo every week. The numbers suggest I'm short by 700 calories daily, so my upkeep calories would land around 2100. Wish that number were real given my height. I'll move into a holding phase by the end of December and work out the details then.

CopperWillow54archiveNov 6, 2025

Mainly mental and emotional.

RustSparrow16archiveNov 7, 2025

Lately I've been monitoring my daily intake compared to how much weight drops the following morning, and it's quite fascinating. It's not exact, yet I like watching how the pattern emerges. I'm thinking about trying out extended periods for averaging those intakes. One calculation points to my upkeep level being around 1500, but I'm dropping about a pound and a third each week while eating 1400, pointing toward a upkeep of 2100 instead. The numbers just don't line up! Do other people notice mismatched figures across various references?

LevelKettle84archiveNov 9, 2025

My tracking application indicates a daily energy shortfall of 3520 calories. Standing at six feet four inches and currently weighing 239 pounds after beginning at 321, with medication start at 307, I consume between 1700 and 2100 calories daily. This includes roughly 230 grams of protein and 45 grams of fiber on average. My weekly weight reduction averages 6.1 pounds while taking 7.5 milligrams each week. Beyond the numbers, I've implemented major adjustments in what I eat and how I move. My food choices are exceptionally wholesome, and I cover 19.88 miles on foot daily, which expends 2408 calories through walking alone. Using an under-desk treadmill allows me to log about six hours and forty minutes of steps both during workdays and on days off. Such extensive movement is what permits maintaining this substantial shortfall. My physician reviewed my progress rate along with activity and nutrition, advising to continue without alterations. I anticipate the pace will decrease upon nearing my target of 175 pounds.

KeenPebble77archiveNov 11, 2025

Surprised that gets monitored? 😊 Eight weeks ago my starting weight was right around 420 pounds. Began on reta with two milligrams each week for three weeks, moved up to four milligrams for another three, and now halfway through the six milligram phase. I actually need to tell myself it's time to eat something. Before this I felt hungry constantly and kept grabbing snacks nonstop. These days I take in some protein early and then have dinner near six in the evening. Occasionally I'll have a small lunch but mostly I just don't feel like it. My estimate is between twelve hundred and eighteen hundred calories most days based on what gets cooked for the household dinner. Nothing else bothers me much except the intense heartburn. I've dropped about twenty five pounds so far with a lot of that being water at the start.

GreenSignal85archiveNov 25, 2025

I skip tracking intake since that habit always messes with my head and yields almost no progress. My routine stays at two meals max each day plus maybe one small bite. I also go through lots of fluids. Following this pattern has resulted in regular drops of 2.8 pounds every week.

QuietTimber26archiveNov 26, 2025

Back when I began with the compounded version, my online doctor recommended aiming for fifteen hundred to nineteen hundred calories each day along with a hundred grams of protein. I kept close tabs on everything at first, yet eventually that became too much of a chore. The medication has really reduced how hungry I feel, and with the pounds coming off, eating the old amounts just isn't possible anymore, which isn't something I mind. There are times when getting even a thousand calories down is tough, usually I land around sixteen to nineteen hundred, and now and then I reach twenty two to twenty five hundred but then I end up feeling terrible. It's strange for me, having been someone who consumed over four thousand calories every single day before.

CopperQuill86archiveNov 26, 2025
↳ replying to @RustSparrow16

My scale numbers get skewed because I overlooked how much yesterday's meal still sits inside me plus the extra fluid that salt holds onto. Those factors end up steering the daily readings far more than they should, which hides the slower shifts in actual body fat and muscle.

SteadyLedger51archiveNov 26, 2025

Every day I have three shakes with protein powder two of them whey based and one using casein. I never eat anything in the morning. At lunch I go for three hundred grams of skyr. In the evening I eat one serving of whatever dish the rest of the household has. Three times each week I spend an hour working out. My top priority is taking in enough protein so muscle does not disappear. After six weeks on it I dropped four kilos and that pace feels fine to me šŸ™‚

KeenFenwick10archiveNov 27, 2025

My weight tracking happens through an application that provides coaching insights which I follow most of the time but adjust whenever necessary. At the moment the suggested goal involves dropping roughly one point eight five pounds each week along with a daily intake near nine hundred twenty calories. That seems excessive given how much I move around and my desire to preserve lean mass. To give the complete picture I am taking TRT along with Reta and KLOW.

CopperFenwick68archiveNov 29, 2025
↳ replying to @SharpSignal42

Me neither on that front. Fixation would take hold fast for me. Protein was something I tracked though, without getting strict.

LevelPebble81archiveDec 12, 2025

My meals are so small that I can't manage a big reduction in intake. It works out to losing about three tenths of a pound per week on average.
