2 months of refeed was great

5 replies5 peopleAug 31, 2026☆ Follow
Summary

How do people handle long refeeds on reta and TRT before cutting for a competition?

One user finished a two-month high-calorie refeed while staying on reta and TRT, gained mostly lean mass, then dropped to 2100 calories and started an 8 mg reta dose for a three-month contest push toward 5% body fat. Others note the high intake felt like overeating, share their own long breaks from ice cream, or describe the difficulty of returning to 1800 calories after months at 3500. Activity levels like daily steps and workouts are mentioned as keeping the higher calories manageable.

What this discussion establishesWhere people disagree

One reply calls the refeed gluttony while the original poster defends it as close to maintenance given activity level.

Nothing here is advice.

Finished a full two-month refeed during vacation with the kids and such, eating at least 3000 calories a day and enjoying plenty of ice cream. Stayed on reta and TRT the whole summer, added 2% body weight but a lot of lean mass. Kept training hard the entire time, though the refeed ended yesterday and I will miss the carb comas. Now back to 2100 calories with 210g protein. Entered a big three-month fitness competition as the final push for 5% body fat, shredded abs, and a chiseled look. Started 8mg reta this morning. Wish me luck, I will need it, and I will share before-and-after pics after the 11-month recomp.

Dude, that sounds more like overeating than a refeed, but no shade. It has been eight months since I had real ice cream.

Well my maintenance sits around 2700 so 3000 calories is not that high, especially with 12000 steps daily and four workouts a week.

Five days ago I dropped back to 1800 calories after three months at 3500. Forcing the food down felt like work, yet I already miss the easy meal planning, variety, and occasional sweets. Now it is back to chicken broccoli rice for the next couple months until maintenance returns just before Thanksgiving.

I have not had ice cream for four years now, but it is better than weighing 145kg and eating it constantly.
