How to manage complete loss of appetite and hitting calorie goals while on retatrutide

The original poster reports strong appetite suppression after three 1 mg weekly doses, leading to constant thoughts about what to eat just to meet needs rather than cravings. Replies suggest nutrient-dense options like nuts or protein shakes to reach intake without junk food, and some advise lowering the dose. Others note the effect may ease after several weeks at a stable dose. Debate arises over whether aiming for 1500 calories matters more than nutrient quality during weight loss.

Hello everyone. I've taken three weekly 1 mg doses of reta so far. The usual snacking urges and thoughts about junk have dropped sharply and that's been useful. Now though I have almost no interest in eating yet keep thinking about food because I know I must consume something. Figuring out tolerable options takes most of the day and reaching 1500 calories plus protein is difficult without natural hunger. A few times I've grabbed cake or chocolate just to push intake higher when numbers are too low. It isn't the best choice but sometimes feels like the only option. Has anyone else noticed appetite suppression shifting into this "I don't want food but have to eat" pattern? Any ideas that make it simpler?

Maybe focus on very nutrient-dense foods. As long as vitamins and minerals are covered over a week there may be no need to force cake just to hit some calorie target. A thousand calories of nutrient-rich items could be preferable to 1500 of junk especially with weight still to lose. If the 1500 goal stays fixed then adding items like nuts, eggs, avocados, salmon, potatoes or protein shakes can help. Nuts in particular add hundreds of calories quickly. On re-reading there is an obvious fix: why not just

I would push back that 1000 calories is enough for most people and that faster loss increases muscle loss while also slowing metabolism. The target should support 1 to 1.5 pounds weekly or up to 1.5 percent of body weight for heavier individuals. Nuts or other calorie-dense whole foods plus maximum protein help protect muscle. Some junk is acceptable to reach calories if protein is already met but should not be the main strategy. The poster has taken three 1 mg doses total so dropping to 0.5 mg could be the straightforward adjustment since the lowest effective amount is preferable.

I have discussed this before and there is no solid evidence that faster weight loss causes extra muscle loss or that a larger deficit slows metabolism more than a smaller one for the same total loss. Still I will not re-argue it. Reaching 1500 calories while remaining in a deficit is possible so the exact number may not matter much. Goals around macros and actual nutrient content in foods seem more useful than a strict daily calorie count.

I read the three doses as week three at 1 mg weekly. I am also in week two at that level and notice similar appetite loss. Going all day with little intake is easy yet food still tastes good when I decide to eat. Keeping berries, nuts, cherry tomatoes or jerky within reach makes healthy snacking simple. Protein drinks work well too.

This tends to ease slightly. We just completed week six at 6 mg and can now manage a smaller but fairly normal meal though fullness arrives quickly. When we move to 7 mg the strong aversion and heartburn usually return for several days or a week.

Thanks for replying. To clarify I take 1 mg once weekly and have done so for three weeks. My aim is 1500 but some days I only reach 600 so cake was used to get closer to 1000. The nuts suggestion is excellent for adding calories. Today was so busy that food thoughts stayed away entirely.

Thanks so much. The nuts idea is great.

Thanks. It is interesting that the feeling should fade. It feels strange to think "I have to eat something" when for years the thought was "I want to eat something."
