Moving to Reta for maintenance

Summary

Should someone switch from tirzepatide to retatrutide after reaching goal weight to support muscle gain and body recomposition?

Users who finished losing on tirzepatide report that retatrutide reduces appetite suppression enough to eat for bulking while still aiding fat loss and muscle retention during cuts. Several who switched directly or titrated found they look more defined, maintain strength training results better, and feel less restricted at meals. Experiences vary by person, with some still struggling to eat enough on reta and others noting weaker anti-inflammatory effects than on tirzepatide. Direct swaps from higher tirzepatide doses to low reta doses were tolerated well by those who tried them.

What this discussion establishesWhere people disagree

Some find reta still too suppressive for easy eating while others report it is noticeably milder than tirzepatide; a few also note reduced anti-inflammatory benefits compared with sema or tirz.

Still open

Best long-term maintenance dose on reta and whether a full switch or continued stacking with cagri works better for everyone.

Nothing here is advice.

Been using triz for a year now and reached the weight loss target I set. Kept training the whole time yet still dropped some muscle because I didn't start with much after years of yo-yo dieting. Got my pens on prescription in the UK before prices went up and only have a couple left. Plan is to do several bulk and cut cycles to add muscle and trim remaining fat before stopping completely. Thinking about switching to reta because eating enough to bulk is tough on triz even at lower doses, and reports suggest reta doesn't suppress appetite as much. Also heard reta helps keep muscle during cuts and burns more fat thanks to the glucagon part. Curious what others think of the plan and whether anyone has made the change successfully.

Came off 10 mg triz and started reta at 1 mg, working up to 5 mg. Appetite control felt weaker at first, but around 4-5 mg it became more noticeable again. Starting to see better definition and seem to drop fat while holding onto more muscle than before.

That lines up with what I'm hoping for. Weaker appetite control so I can actually eat enough, yet still get the fat loss benefits.

First, congrats on the results so far. I've used reta for seven or eight months after being on MJ. Kept up lifting and cardio throughout. With reta I seem to hold muscle better, which helps with recomposition. Biggest change is food: on MJ it was hard to eat enough because suppression was so strong, but on reta I can get the calories needed for muscle work while still feeling satisfied and controlling portions. The glucagon part also raises metabolic rate and supports fat burning, which may mean less muscle loss relative to total weight when protein and training are solid. Some add a bit of cagrilintide for

Thanks for the reply. That's exactly the issue I'm running into with triz. It worked well for the main weight drop but now I feel skinny fat and the suppression stays too strong even at lower doses. Getting comments that I look unwell because I'm thin yet still carry pockets of fat I want to lose. Goal is to come off eventually, so building muscle and dropping fat now should raise my TDEE once I'm done. Keep seeing claims that reta helps maintain muscle on cuts, and what you described backs that up as the right move.

Recomp would probably suit your situation well right now. It takes patience but is worth looking into. Eat near maintenance or a small deficit, keep protein high, and focus on progressive lifting. Fat comes off slower but you end up looking fuller and tighter instead of just smaller. Good luck.

Exactly why I made the change. Down nearly seven stone and now using reta for recomp. Always lifted, so I've been pushing hard the last year and results are starting to show.

Had the same thought. Been on tirz a couple months and it's working, but once I near target weight I'll switch to reta for the same reasons. Barely eating on tirz even at 2.5 mg, so hoping the switch solves that.

Congrats on the loss. Loved the suppression while dropping weight, but once lower you need to eat more again to build muscle and triz doesn't allow it. Did you switch straight over in one week or taper the triz while raising reta? Seen both approaches and was leaning toward a direct swap since I've handled it fine so far.

Odd part is I reached 15 mg and lower doses earlier didn't suppress me much so I ate decent home-cooked meals. Now that the weight is off, even lower doses kill my appetite for real food. Would be happy living on protein shakes at the moment. Hoping reta lets me get back to normal healthy meals while training and recomping.

Went straight from 10 mg triz to 1 mg reta. Since you've already used GLPs you should handle it fine. No side effects when I swapped. Then titrated up to 5 mg over two months. Five mg seems too suppressive for appetite, so probably dropping to 3.5-4 mg which feels like the right level for me.

Can't compare reta to tirz directly since I came from sema and sema plus cagri. At goal now and having trouble finding a maintenance dose on reta because suppression is still very strong and I'm struggling to eat enough. If you want anti-inflammatory effects, reta isn't as effective. On sema I cut asthma meds and allergies nearly vanished, but that hasn't happened on reta. Heart rate rose more on sema than on reta. Blood sugar runs low on reta and creatinine dropped, which might mean muscle loss or very efficient kidneys. Everything is person dependent. Like reta for loss but unsure it's the right maintenance option and might go back to tirz. Could work for some but not others.

Totally person to person. Triz was just too suppressive for me. Reta lets me eat, though not a huge amount.

Lucky not to have other health issues so the switch shouldn't affect those. Will probably just try it and see. Can always go back if it doesn't work out. Really liked triz up to this point, so hopefully the change works for you too.

Just started reta this week. Used tirz over a year after sema and liked it, but want to see what reta can add. Been stalled a few months, which is fine, but hoping reta breaks the plateau and gets loss going again. Once at goal I'll decide which to use for maintenance. Also wondering why some shorten it to triz instead of tirz, maybe to avoid common terms like on some servers.

Had stalls along the way too and just kept going or raised the dose until they passed. Can't spell well so I shortened it, though tirz does make more sense.

Been maintaining since May 2025. Didn't go to a high reta dose and didn't wash out, just stopped tirz cold. Maxed at 15 mg for five months. Most loss happened earlier when moving from 12.5 to 15 mg. Last twenty pounds came at 15 mg. In the final two weeks dropped to 10 mg and added 0.125 cagri, then stopped tirz the next week and started 1 mg reta with 0.25 cagri for maintenance. Now at goal on 3 mg reta alone after dropping cagri in November 2025. Lost another fifteen pounds unintentionally during maintenance so stopped the stack. Staying on 3 mg reta as long as weight holds steady. Can add cagri back if food noise returns. Eat mor
