Summary

Which supplements and approaches help with sleep onset versus maintenance, and what results do users actually see?

Participants describe combining magnesium forms, glycine, apigenin, ashwagandha, and theanine with mixed success on falling asleep versus staying asleep. Some credit certain peptide or medication doses for deeper sleep while others report little or no effect from the same or similar peptides. Cannabis compounds, melatonin, progesterone, exercise, sauna, CPAP, and sleep hygiene are each mentioned by different users as helpful. Individual variation is repeatedly stressed and no shared long-term protocol emerges.

What this discussion establishesWhere people disagree

Users differ on whether specific peptides or supplement combinations deliver reliable improvements, with some reporting clear gains and others none.

A bunch of us are trying to improve sleep so I figured a thread just for swapping experiences would help. Over the years most things that aid my rest end up making it deeper yet shorter overall. That covers hard workouts and even CJC1295. Sticking to the same bedtime around 9pm has made a noticeable difference. Epithalon is arriving soon and magnesium is something I'm thinking about adding. What has everyone else tried that actually worked?

PatientTimber12archiveJun 16

I ran an epitalon cycle and the sleep improvement was impressive. I slept less than usual, around six hours instead of eight, yet woke up feeling properly rested and ready to go. Followed the 500mcg daily for twenty days approach.

PlainFenwick60archiveJun 16

Epitalon should arrive today and I'm eager to start. Planning to follow Pocket's plan. DSIP had zero effect for me.

LevelThistle44archiveJun 16

I already use mag glycinate along with glycine and taurine for sleep. DSIP made my sleep worse. Adding epitalon to DSIP was basically neutral overall. Neither stood out.

CopperTimber28archiveJun 16

Magnesium does nothing for me. I don't stay up late and can fall asleep fine but staying asleep is the real issue. A cortisol supplement from my naturopath didn't change anything either. I have a trial vial of epitalon so maybe it's worth trying. My husband deals with the same problem. He uses reta once a week while I combine tirz with a bit of reta.

SteadyLantern77archiveJun 16

I tend to wake up about three hours after falling asleep and then stay awake for hours, likely from cortisol. DSIP didn't help at all. Adding 400mg of magnesium glycinate at night changed things a lot and now I get solid sleep most nights. My Apple Watch numbers match how I feel. It's become one of my favorite supplements. Still curious how epitalon turns out for others.

Is there a particular magnesium glycinate you use or does the form itself matter most?

PatientTimber12archiveJun 16
↳ replying to @SteadyLantern77

I just received some magnesium glycinate to mix into my evening mushroom tea. Looking forward to seeing how it feels.

WarmSparrow33archiveJun 16

I already take magnesium and want to add glycine next but I'm checking with my neurologist first since it carries a warning about seizures. Should I stick with the glycinate form or take them as separate supplements?

CopperMeadow83archiveJun 16

Solid advice from that longevity advocate includes turning off screens an hour before bed, stopping food and drink three hours prior, reading a physical book for ten minutes, avoiding strenuous activity three hours before, and keeping the room dark, quiet, and around 68 degrees. Following all of it works when I manage to stick with it, though that's the hard part. One night of late sports or scrolling resets everything.

PatientFenwick39archiveJun 16

Exactly, and resetting the circadian rhythm helps too. Keep the same bedtime and wake time for at least a week straight. Get outside for direct sunlight in your eyes within thirty minutes of waking. The first couple days feel rough with low sleepiness at night and grogginess in the morning but it improves quickly after that.

CopperMeadow83archiveJun 16

One bad night of scrolling ruins the streak and the whole pattern restarts, but maybe it gets easier with practice. Also worth getting some daytime sun exposure for vitamin D while avoiding the usual high-exposure spots like face and arms.

You have to force the habit at first. Use app or internet blockers if needed and leave the phone out of the bedroom entirely, maybe grab a basic alarm clock instead.

GreenMeadow27archiveJun 16

Epithalon at 1mg daily for a month followed by as-needed use once or twice a week worked really well for the two rats here. One had sleep trouble since their twenties and now sleeps straight through. After the initial thirty-day cycle and two-week break, daily dosing started causing daytime sleepiness so switching to once or twice weekly fixed that.

PatientAlder89archiveJun 16

Magnesium at bedtime helps me. Metformin from a doctor can help too if you can get a prescription.

I'm just the tool here, the reasons behind the choices aren't mine to figure out.

AmberCinder18archiveJun 16

Palmitoylethanolamide

AmberMeadow80archiveJun 16

Sleep habits come first for decent rest. CJC/Ipa improved my sleep quite a bit but HGH has been even stronger. The CJC/Ipa version brought intense dreams yet I still woke often to use the bathroom. HGH lets me stay asleep the whole night.

SharpLedger58archiveJun 16

Sleep used to be solid until I started intermittent fasting and then longer fasts, reaching a hundred-hour one. That exact night everything changed and it's been poor for about four years now. Tried everything mentioned here and more with little success. Unisom works best though I avoid using it two nights running.

I picked up a well-reviewed version from a common online source.

SteadyLantern77archiveJun 16

Give it a few weeks to notice changes. The improvement wasn't instant for me.

SlowSparrow81archiveJun 16

Ashwagandha can help though it tends to produce unusual dreams especially early on. Use a high-quality extract standardized for withanolides since that's the active part.

PatientTimber12archiveJun 16
↳ replying to @SteadyLantern77

Thanks for the note, I'll give it time. Epitalon produced the same effect for me with some very vivid dreams while using it.

Magnesium glycinate plus L-theanine together let me sleep through the night. Without both I keep waking up.

NorthCinder47archiveJun 16

I use magnesium, ashwagandha, and glycine powder at bedtime and it's helped considerably. Falling asleep is easy but staying asleep was the struggle until the glycine powder became the missing piece that lets me remain asleep longer.

KeenKettle50archiveJun 16

Magnesium glycinate is worth repeating. It let me reach deeper sleep.

PlainAlder11archiveJun 16

I've gone ahead and bought some magnesium glycinate.

NorthWillow14archiveJun 16

The biggest shift came from staying off devices an hour before bed to give the brain a break from constant stimulation. I also use the magnesium and glycine combination.

PlainAnchor67archiveJun 16

Growth has made a major improvement to my sleep.

I considered trying nasal spray first with this one but then found all the studies used injections instead.

There's a useful video on epi and dsip if you want that option. I ordered dsip already but epi was out of stock so I'm waiting to get it.

Where did that protocol come from? Most sources suggest 0.2-0.5mg or the older 5-10mg range for ten to twenty days followed by four to six months off. Would like to hear your thoughts.

GreenMeadow27archiveJun 17
↳ replying to @NorthQuill51

We tried the lower dose first for onboarding but saw no results. Others reported better outcomes with higher amounts so we increased gradually. Two milligrams was too strong so we landed on one milligram.

GreenMeadow27archiveJun 17

Both of us felt groggy and less alert during the day with a constant urge to nap. Everyone reacts differently though.

ClearKettle64archiveJun 17

Both forms of magnesium, threonate along with glycinate, are part of my intake. DSIP produced really strong benefits for me.

GreyHarbour88archiveJun 17

For nearly three years now sleep problems have bothered me constantly. Each night I use magnesium glycinate with half a trazodone yet locating the right reta level created a huge positive change. Earlier I relied on tirz while increasing the amount little by little. Around 8mg my rest became deeply sound once more. It left me feeling completely renewed.

NorthPebble78archiveJun 17

My usual nighttime supplements consist of the glycinate version of magnesium along with glycine. When I want additional profound or quick rest I include ashwagandha and apigenin.

ClearKettle55archiveJun 17

For the past few evenings I've been going to bed around nine or ten and waking up between three and four. I suspect the evening dose of BPC could be causing this since others mentioned similar issues. I'm also using Reta and usually need something to eat before bed to avoid waking early. The initial night was rough because I couldn't fall asleep. Once people mentioned magnesium I decided to eat some pumpkin seeds along with peanut butter on bread and that helped me doze off deeply without interruptions.

QuietSignal61archiveJun 17

I rely on glycine along with taurine, epithalon, and getting worn down from working out.

WarmPebble45archiveJun 17
↳ replying to @SteadyLantern77

Mixing CBN and CBD worked for me on this issue, and adding THC made it even more effective. My doctor who specializes in sleep told me that my rest cycle looks ideal now, plus I stay fully alert all day long.

PlainAlder11archiveJun 17
↳ replying to @ClearKettle55

I live nearby. Work used to force an early bedtime, and retirement left the pattern intact. Lights out around half past eight, yet I usually stir between two and three then remain awake until half past four before rising. The glycinate arrived today so I'm taking one this evening. My spouse requested one as well. I hope this helps.

PlainAlder11archiveJun 19

Curious when this will start improving how well I rest each night.

CopperBeacon24archiveJun 19

Even though these things like magnesium glycinate with theanine gaba apigenin glycine and ashwagandha let me doze off my total rest stays between four and six hours with four being typical. I've lost track of their specific roles in initiating sleep or maintaining it and a few don't seem effective anymore. Considering peptides as another option for better sleep leaves me without any specific ideas.
