Second week of Reta and feeling no change

17 replies14 peopleApr 9, 2026☆ Follow
Summary

Why no appetite suppression yet on low-dose retatrutide and when should the dose be raised?

Participants note that retatrutide's roughly six-day half-life means it takes about four weeks to reach steady levels, so early low doses like 0.5 mg often produce no noticeable effects. Most recommend moving up toward the 2 mg trial starting point while splitting shots or increasing slowly if GI sensitivity is a concern. Results vary widely, with some feeling changes at 2 mg and others needing 3-4 mg or more before suppression appears. Slow titration and tracking actual weight loss rather than sensations are common suggestions.

What this discussion establishesWhere people disagree

Some favor quicker weekly increases to reach effective levels fast, while others prefer holding every dose for at least four weeks and aiming for just one to two pounds lost per week.

Still open

Whether splitting doses or staying on once-weekly injections works better for most people.

Nothing here is advice.

I'm fifty-eight and male. Began Reta at half a milligram two weeks back because new things tend to upset my stomach. Nothing showed up in appetite control or any other way. Moved to one milligram the following week and still notice no difference. Cleaned up the diet, emphasized protein, and made a point of skipping snacks. Thinking about going to two milligrams on the next shot. Any input?

If the urge to snack is still there, move to two milligrams next week since that matches the trial starting amount. By then levels should be close to steady, so the amount in your system stays fairly even week to week. Once steady, you might not need to keep raising unless weight loss stalls for a couple weeks or hunger returns strongly. I never went past three milligrams and stayed at two for almost all of a twelve-week run to goal. The final stretch slowed and food thoughts increased a bit, yet losses stayed steady at a smaller rate. Coming off has been straightforward while calories go back up.

Go to two but split it into two shots a week at one milligram each. That should cut down on stomach trouble. Double-check your mixing numbers too, because a misplaced decimal can leave you way under what you planned. I once ended up with only a tenth of the intended start and was fine with it since the plan was slow ramp-up anyway, but it was not on purpose. Sitting at three milligrams a week now and content there for the moment.

After two weeks I would move to one milligram every three and a half days or two milligrams once a week.

A couple notes on Reta. It works through signaling, and gut trouble or inflammation can blunt that. Even with those issues I still responded once the right amount was found. I moved up fairly fast, starting at two milligrams and landing at four inside a month. Some people respond strongly to small amounts while others need more. My wife is one of the strong responders; one milligram was almost too much at first and side effects took weeks to ease. She has been on it about two months, just went to one point five, and still drops a pound a week. Most start noticing something around three to four milligrams, though that is only a guess. If side effects worry you, do not hurry. Raise by half a milligram each week or every other week until suppression shows or the scale moves. Anything above three to four milligrams usually activates the receptors fully for most.

No need to stress. Reactions differ a lot. I take eight milligrams every sixth day after starting at half a milligram back in January. Appetite suppression never appeared for me. Plenty of others report the same. Food thoughts come down to both the medication and personal control. I check the mirror and simply pass on junk or snacks. Small meals of clean protein, carbs, and vegetables every two and a half hours. Down fifteen pounds of fat while adding muscle. Doubled my TRT and train daily to protect muscle.

That helps a lot, thanks. Should I expect to notice something soon after hitting two milligrams? Also, is it better to switch later from one milligram twice a week over to two milligrams once a week?

It builds for about four weeks and you began at a quarter of the trial starting amount. Might be worth waiting a bit longer.

Some of the suggestions lean aggressive in my view. With a six-to-seven-day half-life it takes four weeks to reach steady levels on any given dose. Nothing wrong with beginning low and moving slowly, especially with a history of stomach issues. Plenty start at two milligrams because that is where the trials began, yet starting at half a milligram seems sensible. I keep every dose for at least four weeks and only raise after two straight weeks without loss. Probably more patient than most, but the target is one to two pounds a week. Slow and steady avoids side effects, loose skin, and awkward questions. Only mild skin tingling so far.

Is the scale moving up, down, or staying flat? Trial data showed most handled two milligrams fine as the starting point. A few arms began at four milligrams and that proved tougher. Lilly might still lower the labeled start slightly below two after further review.

Reactions are not the same for everyone. I usually notice the effect about three hours after the shot, except once when it showed up the next day. No studies compare dosing frequency, so try what suits you. Weekly dosing is simplest for staying consistent.

I know the feeling. Started with small amounts and felt let down at first. Earlier use of Mounjaro had produced big drops. Raised fairly quickly toward the end and now like Reta enough to drop back to six milligrams every six days.

BrightBeacon35archiveApr 10

Half-life sits near six days. Five half-lives are needed for full buildup at a dose and also to clear it completely. Any prior GLP-1 experience can change how much suppression shows up. Your current amount is only now reaching the trial starting level. Fine to raise until effects appear. Better to hit a working amount and see results than stay too low and feel nothing.

Half a milligram is low, though not a bad choice. I went one, two, three, four milligrams across the first month, which was fast but side-effect concerns were low. Studies topped out around twelve milligrams, yet eight to ten worked well too, so that is the range I am heading toward.

Worth repeating that results differ. Strong progress came from half a milligram and only reached three milligrams after many months. Smaller doses are not always chosen just to stretch supply. Staying at the lowest effective level for as long as possible leaves room to drop lower later or reach a tiny maintenance amount. One to two pounds a week still counts as effective. Fast results are tempting, yet slower progress avoids extra problems such as gallstones.

BrightBeacon35archiveApr 10

Agreed. The point was that low amounts stop being useful once results disappear. If progress continues there is no need to push higher just to push higher.

Felt the same in week two. Moved from half to one to one point five then two and have stayed at two for two weeks because it is noticeable enough. First week or so actually brought more hunger, then week three things shifted and by week four I pay closer attention to what and when I eat while using digestive support. Feeling fairly steady now. Will hold here until it seems less effective, then add a little if needed.

Same exact path here. Started at a quarter milligram and raised weekly for three months. Added a quarter milligram of Cagri around week four, which quieted the returning food thoughts. Now in month four holding at three milligrams Reta plus half a milligram Cagri and finally seeing movement. It takes time. Lifelong metabolic issues will not fix in a couple weeks, maybe four months.
