My reta journey!

Summary

What early experiences do people report when starting reta for weight loss?

A 36-year-old woman shares weekly updates on her reta use, noting reduced appetite and hunger, initial weight drops of several pounds, and side effects like nausea and fatigue that improve with hydration and electrolytes. Others chime in on similar patterns, split dosing, and the value of steady rather than rapid loss. The thread shows consistent early benefits alongside manageable adjustments.

What this discussion establishesWhere people disagree

Participants differ on whether sudden nausea stems mainly from dehydration, timing of meals, or dose size, and on how strictly to split injections.

Still open

Whether side effects fully resolve long-term or if certain foods remain unappealing indefinitely.

Nothing here is advice.

Hello all! Just did the week 2 injection. I decided to log my own progress here. Starting weight 278 pounds, now 275, aiming for 160 though anything under 200 would suit me. Doing some light strength work and increasing it bit by bit.

How old, and male or female?

PlainBramble69archiveJun 15

Well, week 2 day 1 on reta at 2 mg. Starting weight 278, now 273.4, goal still 160. 36 and female. Appetite is basically gone, which feels good. Food just seems unappealing. I brought some high-protein snacks anyway, but the lunch I have to attend today already feels like too much. Only mild nausea so far.

Lunch turned out better than expected. Went with a salad and chicken.

Back again. About three days after the shot nausea showed up this morning. I clearly need more water and electrolytes. On the scale though I am down 7 pounds since the start. Starting weight 278, now 270.6, goal 160. 36 female.

Anything helps right now. Glad to see the water weight go.

Everyone sees that at the beginning. My own average has been 2.2 pounds a week, which feels reasonable. Losing faster than that is not advisable.

I am also seeing roughly 2 pounds a week. I agree that slower is better. One to two pounds weekly is enough.

I agree, slower is better. I was just glad to finally drop below 275 after the whole winter.

Looking at your numbers and goal, it is realistic. Plenty of people here have dropped more than 100 pounds.

That gives me hope. No deadline set, so I am just taking it as it comes.

Update the day before the next shot. Hunger and food thoughts are lower than last week, which is nice given the half-life. Fatigue lingers, though I already had insomnia before starting. Took a good nap today. Still need to raise protein; right now I am probably around 70 g daily. Workouts stay at home with weights and bands, plus daily walks after dinner. Looking forward to tomorrow's shot because it helps me make better choices. Years of losing and regaining make this feel different since my body is now signaling what it needs.

Update, week 3 day 3. Worst nausea yet hit hard this morning, like getting run over. It has happened before but not this strongly. Realized I needed more fluids and that helped a lot. I know this is a slow process but I am impatient to see steady progress. Thanks for reading.

Is dehydration behind the nausea? I got hit with it today for the first time after six weeks on reta, last three at the same dose. It came on suddenly and strongly. Wondering if it was the late dinner the night before. Skipping dinner tonight to test whether it returns, and maybe trying a few carbs before bed if it does.

From everything I have read, dehydration and low electrolytes both can trigger nausea.

I always felt nauseous when I skipped meals, especially if dinner was late or I went six hours without eating in the morning.

NorthCompass23archiveAug 18

For what it is worth, strong side effects lasted nearly a month for me including nausea, heartburn, GI issues, food aversion, poor sleep, and constant thirst. Splitting the dose helped because 2 mg at once was too much. Adding electrolytes eased the nausea. Everything eventually settled and I feel fine now, though eggs still do not appeal much.
