Not feeling appetite suppression on reta

36 replies26 peopleApr 30, 2026☆ Follow
Summary

Why am I not getting appetite suppression on retatrutide at low doses and should I increase, wait, split doses, or add tirzepatide?

Users report highly variable appetite effects on reta, with many seeing little suppression until 4 mg or higher while others notice early changes that fade. The consensus is to stay at each dose for at least four weeks rather than stacking or splitting early, as reta builds in the system and its main benefits are not solely hunger control. Several people describe getting full faster or losing weight without strong aversion to food, while others add low-dose tirz only after reaching higher reta levels. Side effects and metabolic improvements can occur even without appetite changes.

What this discussion establishesWhere people disagree

Whether to add tirzepatide at low reta doses or wait until 8-12 mg of reta alone before considering a stack.

How long to persist at a given dose before concluding reta will not provide meaningful appetite effects for a specific user.

Nothing here is advice.

Looking for thoughts on appetite control with this compound. Week four now, doses went half milligram first week, one milligram second week, then two milligrams for weeks three and four. Only noticed any effect the first week and nothing since. Considering splitting the weekly amount. Some say tirz handles hunger better, so would adding a small amount of it be premature? Anyone else gone through the same thing?

LevelThistle44archiveApr 30

The title already tells you what to do. Raise the amount. Use the time you saved to search the board and its search tool.

Adding to that, stay on a dose for four weeks so it can begin working. I would start at two milligrams. I held every dose at least four weeks and things went fine. Up to you though.

GreenMeadow54archiveApr 30

Posted about this elsewhere too. If appetite control is the main goal, reta is not the best choice; tirz handles that better. Since hunger reduction is not a primary action of reta, it should not be the signal for raising the dose. Reta stresses the body more than other GLPs. Just pushing the dose higher until appetite drops is a bad plan and it is concerning how often that advice appears.

Blood glucose has improved nicely on reta even though weight has not moved. I am thinking of adding tirz for the appetite piece but wanted to hear how others handled combining them.

Appetite effects aside, half to two milligrams a week is not really a therapeutic level for reta. Hunger reduction does happen but it is not the main advantage compared with tirz. These threads pop up every week and they are almost always at very low doses where people want to stack instead of raising reta enough to see what it does.

GreenMeadow54archiveApr 30

Not saying reta lacks benefits or should be avoided. Just that if appetite control is the goal, tirz is stronger at it, but if staying on reta then appetite should not dictate the dose. There is a case for low-dose stacking though. I was on about four and a half milligrams of tirz with solid hunger control but energy stayed lower after the initial fatigue passed. Dropped tirz to three milligrams and added one milligram of reta. Still need a few weeks to judge, but energy feels noticeably better already. Might be worth letting reta build longer before changing anything.

Are you gaining? If not, hold two milligrams for four weeks then raise only if weight is not coming off. Goal is to reach the dose that produces steady loss of at least half a pound a week with tolerable or no sides. No need to rush, follow the standard approach. It is a long process. Once you hit ten to twelve milligrams and still need more, then consider splitting or stacking.

When does weight loss usually begin? My scale has been basically flat, up only point four pounds over the last two weeks, which is within my normal variation.

SteadyTimber22archiveApr 30

Non-responders group up. Started at two eighteen, diet and exercise took me to two hundred then a long stall. Fifteen weeks on reta up to twelve milligrams, had every side effect except appetite control. First week digestion slowed but hunger stayed strong, plus bad reflux and indigestion. Added cagrilintide with little change. Heart rate and sleep issues finally became too much, total loss only three pounds. Switching to survodutide along with the cag.

Be more patient and let levels build. Reta is not tirz. The glucagon action is real so make sure protein and carbs are adequate. You might not feel hunger drop between meals but check how you feel while eating. Are portions naturally smaller? That matters more than food aversion. One big plus of reta is it does not create aversion, yet still gives better nutrient use, stronger satisfaction, and higher resting metabolism.

PlainAlder11archiveApr 30

First week. Five pounds, probably mostly water since we also started lower carbs at the same time.

KeenPebble44archiveApr 30

Hitting protein and carb targets. Meals themselves do not leave me any more satisfied than usual.

PlainThistle38archiveApr 30

Did exactly that, same doses and timing, and I am feeling much better.

AmberMeadow80archiveApr 30

On one milligram a week the first four weeks I could tell my stomach was empty and needed calories, sort of hungry but not interested in eating. When I did eat I filled up fast. Now at two point five milligrams a week that feeling is weaker, but sometimes food grosses me out and I stop even if it is pizza. Just another data point.

RustCompass19archiveApr 30

No sides at all means slow titration should be fairly safe, but watch blood sugar and keep carbs, water, and electrolytes up. Safest move is to hold two milligrams a couple more weeks then go to four if needed. Pinning every three days or adding tirz this early just adds variables.

PatientQuill20archiveApr 30

The issue is trusting the process. Two milligrams for four weeks is the starting dose used in obese subjects, both for sides and metabolic stability. Starting higher does not give more overall benefit from reta. It may increase appetite control and produce a couple extra percent weight loss early from glycogen and water, but over twelve weeks it does not lead to more total loss and the fat lost would be less than with proper titration. Staying too low too long also fails to create the metabolic shifts reta is meant to deliver.

NorthBeacon87archiveApr 30

Been on one milligram for two weeks and basically zero appetite. Did not expect any reaction but now I have to remind myself to eat. Everyone is different.

This. Started with sema then added reta because I worried it would not control food noise based on what others said. After slowly going up over a year I got comfortable dropping the sema and have used only reta for the last two months. Now titrating reta down from twelve milligrams while tracking food noise against estimated levels. My experience may differ but the suppression surprised me and I hope others see the same.

My body is responding, just not on the appetite side. Going to give it more time at the current low dose and add tirz later if needed. Definitely wondering when the hunger effect will appear. After four weeks most trial patients seemed to have at least some suppression.

PatientQuill20archiveMay 1

Appetite response varies. At two milligrams mine was mild, just fuller longer than usual. At four milligrams it was stronger for the first four days then back to mild. Lost very little until reaching four milligrams. Planning to go to five or six soon. Trusting the medication will do its work even if early weight loss is slow. Opposed to stacking right now because keeping the ability to eat is part of what makes reta different.

Think I will go up to three milligrams next week. Get bad morning sickness the day after the shot but it passes by noon. Considering one milligram of tirz just for a bit more appetite control.

RustMarble78archiveMay 1
↳ replying to @GreenMeadow54

Agreed. Just raising the reta dose to chase appetite control is a mistake and can cause really unpleasant sides. Been there. Have not tried combining tirz and reta but that route might give more hunger control than simply increasing reta.

LevelBramble49archiveMay 2

On two milligrams weekly and dropping fat fast. Would not call it full appetite suppression though I do fill up quicker. Food noise is down but I am craving sweets more. Still disciplined with macros.

SharpHarbour48archiveMay 2

Titrated up to twelve milligrams and have not lost a pound. Did better on tirz with a little reta added. Might add something again and see what happens.

IronLantern24archiveMay 2
↳ replying to @KeenPebble44 (opening post)

Was the same way. Early low doses gave excellent appetite control until around two milligrams a week. Food noise has always been well controlled but now at five milligrams the appetite effect is strong again. Only real downside now is exhaustion returning. Eating more makes it worse. Staying here for a while to see how it goes.

WarmMarble23archiveMay 3

Week seven, started at one milligram now at three. No appetite suppression at all. Still, with only kettlebell workouts three days a week I am down eleven pounds. Could probably drop more if hunger were lower and I stopped the beers. It is working though, half to two pounds a week. Notice I fill up faster and feel content after eating. Will hold three milligrams two more weeks then go to four for a month. If four does not help appetite I will consider adding tirz after more research.

Do you want to mention how heavy you are and the weight you hope to reach?

SharpMarble40archiveMay 3
↳ replying to @AmberMeadow80

This. Asked in a group yesterday because I noticed the same pattern. Started very low to avoid sides and had good suppression with less food noise, which helped since food is a stim for me. Went up to two milligrams as planned and the noise returned. Still fill up faster though so not everything is gone. Weight loss steady around eight hundred grams to a kilo a week but unsure if that is just from lower calories or the medication.

SharpHarbour48archiveMay 5

Two hundred two pounds, goal one hundred eighty to one hundred eighty five.

Just started reta three weeks ago on one milligram and it is similar to what you described. Stomach feels empty but I am not hungry at all, maybe slightly fatigued the day after pinning, and always cold now that I have leaned out. Get full very fast, no cravings, no food noise. Interesting effect. Might not increase because levels are still building. When did you move up to two point five milligrams?

AmberMeadow80archiveMay 5

Moved to two point five after one month at one milligram because hunger was returning. Been at two point five almost a month and will stay until there is a reason to go higher.

GreyWillow80archiveMay 6

Remember those worries well. Had strong suppression on tirz but when starting reta not much happened until six milligrams. Began in September and saw little until four or five milligrams and worried it would not work, but it did. Only on seven milligrams now and suppression is very strong, changed body shape too. It is almost too strong but I like it. Suppression now feels better than on tirz. It does reduce enjoyment of food though, tastes good at first then quickly not. Cannot be near leftovers because the smell is intense and makes me feel ill. Can only manage small amounts but I like that. Can choose salad and be as happy as with a cheeseburger. That is not willpower, it is reta assisted. Nine months on reta, forty two pounds down, roughly twenty eight to go. One month left and two years total on GLP-1s with one hundred seventeen pounds lost overall.

CopperSignal27archiveMay 6
↳ replying to @KeenPebble44

If starting a GLP then give it a real try. It is long term if obesity is significant, and checking whether the current best option works is worth it but that means getting to eight milligrams or more before deciding. Because you began below the usual two milligram start you have not really had four weeks on it, more like two. Switching after a few weeks at low doses is not the right move. If weight is coming off there is no problem. With zero effects or sides so far you are probably less likely than average to get bad sides when raising, though sides are unpredictable. Only real risk is suddenly worse sides. Going to three then four milligrams is unlikely to cause issues, and once effects appear hunger control should follow.

CopperHarbour29archiveMay 6
↳ replying to @KeenPebble44 (opening post)

In the trials you would already have been on two milligrams for a month and moving to four now. Starting low is fine but staying below the trial starting dose for a month when it is not working is not helpful, and there is no need to add other compounds when you are not near a therapeutic level yet.

PatientFenwick91archiveMay 6

Fourth week at five milligrams a week after slow titration from one milligram. Some appetite effect the first week, almost none since week three. Fill up quicker but only a few pounds lost. Not really here for major weight loss and do not see reta as an appetite suppressant. Could lose another ten pounds but no rush. Mostly testing for metabolic reset, better labs, some recomp, and staying lean long term since family health history is poor. Will keep running reta with test and HGH but still hoping for the reta miracle others mention.

WarmWillow99archiveMay 6

Just finished first week on two milligrams and results are good so far. Worried at first about missing the appetite suppression but it showed up quickly and now I can barely eat half my usual amount. Still get hungry but need far less and feel full. Like that it does not make food repulsive. Lost seven pounds but know that includes water and glycogen. Only want a small snack for breakfast and lunch and a small dinner plate. Levels will keep rising over the next month even at the same dose so hopefully tolerance stays low. Happy to stay at the lowest effective dose and ready for loss to slow after the initial drop. Forty year old six foot male, started at two twenty five, two eighteen on first pin and two eleven this morning.
