Reta & Hunger Suppression

9 replies9 peopleApr 2, 2026☆ Follow
Summary

How effective is retatrutide at suppressing hunger and supporting weight loss, especially at low doses?

Several users report strong appetite reduction and reduced food noise on low doses of 1-2 mg weekly, leading to steady fat loss and difficulty hitting protein targets. Others note milder effects that still improve food choices without total shutdown, and some remain hungry even at 9 mg. Individual responses differ sharply, with some preferring reta over semaglutide or tirzepatide for maintaining a healthier relationship with eating.

What this discussion establishesWhere people disagree

Participants differ on how completely reta suppresses hunger, with some finding it nearly eliminates desire to eat and others reporting persistent hunger even at higher doses.

Still open

Whether users who respond strongly at low doses will eventually need increases to maintain control as body weight declines.

Nothing here is advice.

I bulked up close to 200 pounds over the winter and have always enjoyed eating with frequent snacks, often struggling to control portions especially with calorie-heavy nuts. That led me to look into peptides for appetite control. I started Reta and raised the amount each week, reaching 1.5 mg where I plan to stay for a while. At this level my desire to eat has dropped sharply so I rarely think about food and find it hard to reach even 160 g of protein daily. Meals I used to finish quickly now take much longer. Even though this is viewed as a low clinical amount it affects me strongly. People clearly respond in very different ways. I've now reached 172 pounds with a target of 150.

From what others have posted it looks like some other GLPs might handle food noise better, though I have only used Reta so I cannot compare directly. I began at 1 mg per week. Much like you I quickly stopped thinking about food, quit snacking altogether, and found meals far more satisfying. I wondered at first if it was just in my head, but I have been dropping about 2 lbs each week for four weeks on this small amount. My wife noticed the change and asked if I had lost weight, which felt good since no one had said that before. She had been doubtful about something bought online, but now she has started it herself.

Glad the low dose is working well for you too. I bought a larger kit expecting to need higher amounts over time, but it is good that we are both responding strongly so early. I should need far less than planned to reach my target. Keep going.

You could be very responsive to reta, which makes things easier at first, but since you want to drop about a quarter of your starting weight you will likely need to raise the dose later. As weight comes off hunger often increases, so more reta may be required to manage that.

At 2 mg I can hardly eat anything. Around that level or when stepping to 3 mg I also had trouble sleeping for two weeks and had to rely on shakes. Now I stay at 1-1.5 mg.

I also raised the dose gradually until it was clearly too much. Two weeks at 4 mg felt overwhelming so I skipped one dose and restarted, realizing I do not need to push the increases quickly.

I stay hungry on Reta even at 9 mg right now.

I have a similar experience after 13 weeks at 3 mg, having just moved up from 2 mg. On semaglutide I had no interest in eating at all and hitting macros felt impossible, which is why I stopped after a couple of months. With reta the constant cravings and old habits are quiet. I still get mild hunger sometimes but can choose better options instead of grazing while deciding. Even without total suppression it is helping me improve how I relate to food.

That matches what I am going through. After using semaglutide and tirzepatide, both of which removed any desire to eat, reta lets me hit my macros and enjoy smaller amounts of better food. I initially expected stronger shutdown but realized within a month it was giving me something more useful: a better relationship with eating.

I have been on 0.5 mg for the last three weeks. I must be sensitive, so I might try 1 mg next. I am 6'5" and started at 230.
