Reta and mood swings in the first weeks – how long did it last for you?

17 replies14 peopleMar 10, 2026☆ Follow
Summary

How long do initial mood swings last on reta and what personal experiences have others had with them?

Users report mixed experiences with mood changes early on reta. Some notice none at all even after several weeks at increasing doses, while others describe anhedonia or irritability tied to higher amounts or the first couple of weeks. A few link swings more to sudden drops in food intake than the compound itself, with stabilization occurring once calories are managed. Dosing frequency and starting low appear to influence whether side effects show up.

On week two with reta now and seeing some obvious ups and downs in how I feel. People who have run it already, how long did that early stretch go on for you? At what point did mood even out? Curious to hear what others went through.

BrightMeadow15archiveMar 10

What exactly are the mood changes like? Feeling flat or emotions dulled happens to quite a few people.

WryCompass65archiveMar 10

About a month in on reta, began at a very low amount and worked up gradually. No mood changes turned up.

GreyHarbour58archiveMar 10

At the higher amounts I use, around four to six milligrams, I feel a bit more on edge and short-tempered for a day or two right after the shot, which I do every six days.

SteadyAnchor73archiveMar 10

Kept it at a tiny amount for six weeks and now sit at one milligram twice weekly to hold a steady three-milligram level overall. No mood changes at all.

Anhedonia shows up for me once doses get high, but not before. It is a known effect tied to the GLP-1 action.

My partner and I started our subjects at one milligram five weeks ago. Only minor stomach upset appeared, probably from switching eating patterns. No mood shifts at all beyond the usual grumpiness. Doses have gone up a bit since then with still no mood changes noticed. Stomach issues linger a couple days after the shot but stay manageable.

Considering moving toward a similar lower steady approach. How have the outcomes been and did avoiding a big spike after each shot lead to splitting the dose?

Spent a month reading up before the first dose and chose the small frequent approach to limit minor side effects. A friend mentioned effects fading after a few days, so dosing every three days keeps things even. Began at point two five and felt nothing, then moved to point three three and noticed a clear change. After six weeks weight was coming off. Blood sugar control improved at the next step up and inflammation dropped too. An old hives issue cleared up as well. Clothes are getting loose even though weight was never the main goal.

Lots of useful detail there, thanks. Sounds like solid progress and I plan to adjust my own schedule based on it. Started near goal weight for metabolic reasons and a bit of recomp. Stomach upset at peak dose was milder last time so another same amount is next to check if it is settling.

Why mention a rat at all? Everyone knows it is about the person using it.

Yeah, how could anyone figure that out?

NorthAnchor93archiveMar 11

Had the same thing on tirz, days of feeling nothing plus times of real anger. Looking into whether tyrosine might ease the flat feeling.

Not just you then. The same flatness showed up a few months in on tirz and eased a little over time, though some days small things still set me off. I notice it now and usually stop myself. My spouse went through it too and we ended up in our first big argument ever without either knowing why.

BlueHarbour24archiveMar 22

Zero mood swings here.

NorthCompass62archiveMar 23

Looking back, the first two weeks brought what felt like mood swings, though I think diet was the real driver. Appetite dropped hard and calories swung between very low and moderate, which hit an obese body hard. Once meals were planned with enough protein and the rest carbs, mood and energy settled in about two days.

WryHarbour76archiveMar 23

Four months on tirz and one month stacking reta with no mood swings at any stage. Everything has felt steady. These meds hit people differently so I just watch for shifts, but none appeared. Early weeks seem to be when changes show for some, then settle.

GreyTimber78archiveMar 23

Week seven at two point five milligrams once weekly and no mood swings. Thinking about splitting the dose going forward.
