Why did you choose reta over tirz?

36 replies21 peopleSep 26, 2026☆ Follow
Summary

why choose retatrutide instead of tirzepatide

Users picked reta mainly for stronger trial data on fat loss, liver fat, lipids, blood pressure and kidney markers, plus the added glucagon action. Several started on tirz then switched when progress stalled or wanted more metabolic effects, while others began with reta after hearing about it first. A few rotate both or plan to return to tirz for maintenance because sides feel lower and appetite control is stronger.

What this discussion establishesWhere people disagree

whether reta's extra efficacy outweighs higher heart rate, cost and less long-term safety data compared with tirz's stronger appetite suppression and established use

Still open

optimal long-term strategy and whether rotating or stacking remains superior once weight goals are reached

Nothing here is advice.

just wondering what made others go with reta instead of tirz. tirz looks like it has milder sides, stronger appetite control for most, and full approval already. for me it was simply the first one i came across. i knew the others existed but didn't realize they were available through research channels. i didn't even know what tirz was until i had already started reta. now i really like reta and wouldn't switch, but i'm curious what others think.

trial results for reta beat tirz on most measures at similar doses: bigger drops in liver fat, visceral and total fat, triglycerides, LDL, hs-CRP, better kidney numbers, lower blood pressure and more weight loss. downsides are higher resting heart rate, higher cost, possibly more sides and less long-term safety data. everything else is about the same. basically i wanted the newer option.

a couple reasons. mainly a friend and his daughter were already using it so i could see real results instead of just reading reports. the added glucagon piece also made it more interesting than tirz. someone might pick tirz simply because it's already widely known with recognizable names, which makes talking about it easier. it can also be simpler with a doctor since tirz is an approved glp-1 while reta still needs more explanation.

same here. my girlfriend was on something from her doctor and while looking into glp effects in general i kept seeing reta mentioned in forums as similar but stronger and only available through research sources. after some digging i ended up here and started reta. results have been good so far.

never heard of either until my oldest brought it up. started reading and my wife and i have had no bad effects even at the higher dose.

switched from tirz to reta hoping for a higher total weight loss percentage. down 33 percent in 41 weeks with a few more percent left to go.

started the same way after a friend mentioned it. watched some videos and decided to try. reta reversed my pre-diabetes and is helping with fatty liver so it fits me well. still plan to switch to tirz eventually.

began with tirz because that was what my doctor offered. now i use both and would be fine on either one alone if the other ran out.

dosing for effect while watching sides. been at 20 mg per week for a stretch except a short break once i hit my first goal. also added 2.5 mg tirz and 1 mg of the other compound after the break. don't really need the high dose anymore for maintenance but the target was steady weekly loss.

nice. are those the larger vials? and some glare on the reta. reconstituted from a 140 mg vial?

AmberPebble67archive2d

switched after most of the loss happened at 5 mg split and almost no extra progress at 10 mg split. now on 2 mg reta and will try 2 mg plus 1 mg split tomorrow.

above 5 mg i feel tired and down all the time. on reta at 8 mg it's been fine.

was stalling on tirz after about 50 lb loss. kept seeing reta mentioned so looked into it and wanted to restart progress. now stacking. reta doesn't cut food noise much but helps satiety and energy.

CopperAlder51archive2d

went with reta first because of the stronger trial numbers, stayed because sides stayed low, and ended up losing more and faster than the trials reported. couldn't have gone better.

yep. 6 mg dose twice a week and 50 mg twice a week. the 140 came in a 3 ml vial.

just got some of the 100 today, those 5 ml vials.

IronLantern24archive2d

chose reta because of the glucagon receptor activation.

↳ replying to @PlainAlder11

wouldn't mind the 5 ml size but 3 ml is fine too. the price on that 100 was good.

fomo. lost the weight so far on tirz but wanted to try reta. swapped to reta only at 4 mg per week for maintenance. not seeing clear superiority yet after eight weeks and not pushing hard for more loss. hoping for some visceral fat change and will run it at least six months. probably back to tirz long term unless something newer appears. a recent video laid out the differences and when each might fit best. sema came out looking decent for simple long-term maintenance.

more about storage space than vial size. i'll reconstitute and filter into a fresh 5 ml vial. this was the ww version, not the one for 178.

honestly i've got four months before moving abroad and want to drop as much as possible quickly. unsure if i can take these along or get more there. ended up here after reading around. week four at 3 mg.

↳ replying to @AmberPebble67

in my experience it takes noticeably longer to feel reta working compared with tirz, same with the weight loss. more on maintenance now at 1.5 mg of each per week.

RustLantern62archive1d

was on wegovy. a buddy called asking if i'd heard of reta and said he was about to try it. he did, liked it, so i tried. eight weeks in and now looking at ordering more.

the glucagon piece was another reason for me. both my wife and i lost weight quickly at 2 mg though the first few pounds were probably water. after that averaged about 2 lb per week over 30 weeks. hit goal six or seven weeks ago and now on 6 and 8 mg for maintenance.

yeah i started at 0.5 mg and lost right away while a friend felt nothing at that dose. everyone responds differently. for a while increasing the dose some weeks i felt it and others not, while she did fine at 1 and 1.5 mg. now at 3 mg and consistent every week. she is having the on-and-off weeks now. lower doses can work but seem hit or miss. if the goal is avoiding sides we've both had basically none except the anhedonia which i actually like.

interesting how it hits people differently. i don't really feel reta itself. only at 1 mg the last three weeks while also on 4 mg tirz going to 5 tomorrow. been at 4 for five weeks without losing. i like the added glucagon and metabolic effect from reta so i'm wondering if keeping tirz at 4 and raising reta would be better. away from home and the scale is all over the place so hard to tell progress this week.

can't decide between them. started at 1 mg reta per week and metabolic markers improved right away. lipids, a1c and blood pressure all better. switched to 1 mg tirz after three months and markers kept improving. tirz seems to suppress appetite more. with plenty of both on hand i'll probably rotate every three months. both are impressive and at these low doses i've had zero sides.

↳ replying to @RustAlder52

haven't heard that before. what is there to like about anhedonia?

research pointed to reta being clearly better. appetite suppression wasn't the main goal anyway.

RustAlder52archive23h
↳ replying to @PatientPebble79

not sure if it's exactly anhedonia after reading comments, but what i'm noticing is less urge for bad habits and less stress about things that used to bother me because i care less. that part feels good.

not sure what you're being rude about but okay.
