Summary

Why do hunger levels change or spike when increasing retatrutide doses?

Users report highly variable appetite effects on reta, with some experiencing strong hunger increases right after a dose jump while others see suppression that fades or cycles over the days between shots. Timing the injection at night, staying hydrated, avoiding trigger foods, and splitting doses are common tactics mentioned for managing it. Prior GLP-1 experience also seems to shape how reta feels, and many note the response differs sharply from tirzepatide.

What this discussion establishesWhere people disagree

Some users find reta increases hunger overall while others experience reliable suppression that only varies in intensity across the week.

Whether prior tirzepatide use permanently alters later response to reta, and the best long-term dosing schedule for steady control.

Nothing here is advice.

about possible hunger increases during dose adjustments? haha I bumped from 2mg to 4mg today and cleared out the whole pantry. Now I'm running after the cat trying to grab my final pieces of bread!

LevelFenwick52archiveMay 26

I quit keeping snack foods around long before I began reta. When my roommate brings donuts or cookies home and leaves them sitting out I joke that he should stop bringing drugs into the place.

PlainAlder11archiveMay 26

I've never had them.

AmberKettle85archiveMay 26

It might be several factors together. Reta generally does not curb appetite very strongly so it requires more discipline. I also personally notice the suppression only kicks in around 36 hours later when I hardly feel like eating. Still, if tempting foods are nearby I always want them so I simply stopped purchasing them.

PatientFenwick37archiveMay 26

I find reta feels like a roller coaster while tirz was smooth and steady. If that makes sense.

SteadyLedger60archiveMay 26

I was planning to switch to reta but a 50/50 split seems nicely balanced instead. Mild appetite control and my stomach does not feel backed up.

PatientSparrow76archiveMay 27

Snack days are gym days. Straight to gains.

Ah wait until you reach 6mg. The hunger pangs never really leave. Some people seem to get appetite suppression on reta but for me it is the reverse. I get hungrier and my current obsession is also bread. I can finish an entire loaf in one sitting.

It didn't make sense to me earlier since I always injected at night. But now I see the point of morning injections. Those initial twelve hours while it's settling down don't count as it being fully active. So yeah, I'm returning to evening shots.

One thing I have noticed on reta is that food thoughts mostly appear only when I am actually hungry and become milder when I drink more water. It feels like normal hunger signals where I consider what to eat next but without the frantic urge to order or prepare food right away. Once I start eating I still manage about 70 percent of my old portions because my eyes are bigger than my stomach. I normally eat too quickly so I pause briefly during meals. That is easier on reta and after 10-15 minutes I usually feel much fuller. Before reta I would keep returning to snacks shortly after finishing. Now I rarely do. Last time I wanted sweets I chose a peach instead of candy and it satisfied me. I find it remarkable that I can still have cravings yet stop myself from overdoing it. It is like upgrading from an old bike to a new e-bike.

PatientCompass99archiveMay 27

Yeah I have noticed something similar. But I am also doing a lot of training so it helps that I can eat!

I like the idea behind this. I think I'll try it next week. Thanks!

PatientQuill20archiveMay 27

This medication acts oddly for me. Strong hunger reduction hits hard right at the start for a couple days. After that comes one full day of nonstop food thoughts. Things then settle into a steady comfortable feeling across the following few days. On that urge-filled day I keep telling myself the phase will fade soon. Right before the next weekly dose I can handle meals fine yet stay in check. The whole pattern seems stronger after each dose increase. I began with two milligrams then moved to three and four before reaching five. The steady drop in weight means I am staying put instead of moving higher as I once planned.

I pair a particular compound with a targeted probiotic strain to naturally raise gut hormone output and curb appetite more effectively. That strain helps elevate the relevant hormone levels directly within the intestines. The compound functions as a feeder for beneficial microbes by raising their presence there. The pair forms a complementary natural approach that influences overlapping body chemistry routes similar to the medication. For me personally it proved overly intense since appetite disappeared entirely forcing me to choke down protein beverages to hit nutrition targets. These days I use the pair solely on cycle days five through seven once the medication's appetite control begins fading.

Those injection days work out like this. We get the shots Friday in the morning, and then that evening I make myself consume something even though it used to cause heartburn. Around day five or six I feel back to normal as much as I ever do. Seems like that issue has cleared up.

I might give it a shot myself. Taking mine first thing left me incredibly hungry for days on end.

SlowLedger31archiveMay 28

I've found that cutting back on fluids while taking in more caffeine causes me to feel hungry sooner throughout the week.

I've noticed something intriguing here. Consuming plenty of coffee seems to have made the one milligram amount ineffective during my opening week. I wonder if that's why the appetite control is wearing off so fast, as of the day before.

Normally I handle it on the last day of the week right before sleeping. Now it's Thursday and I feel no appetite at all or any urge toward food. The issue is that even with regular workouts and clean meals my scale number stays stuck. This situation really gets to me haha

My hunger control feels much the same. I manage to consume food yet lack any desire for unhealthy snacks. I prepared some pork ribs during a recent holiday, and I wanted them until we added a sugary commercial sauce. Realizing that sauce was bad for me made the whole thing unappealing. Previously I would purchase meals from drive thrus after work to consume them prior to arriving home and needing to justify not sharing with my children. I have ended that habit too. Still, we visited a chicken spot together yesterday evening where I chose a lettuce wrap paired with vinegar based dressing. While taking the medication this seemed as delicious as a premium cut of beef.

From my earlier experiences using only food changes and workouts without any other aids, adjusting what I ate over several days helped me get past a plateau in dropping weight. I don't claim this approach applies to anyone else or produces identical results during peptide use. I anticipate needing to repeat the process before long once I'm on the medication.

I've gotten to where I'm done trying to like better meals and am choosing total excess instead.

RustAnchor24archiveMay 28

It'd be helpful if folks shared their past experiences with these types of medications in threads like this one. Reactions to this particular compound vary widely, in contrast to the other two options mentioned. I've thought about changing over to the alternative once I reach my target weight, yet I'm getting concerned that doing so could reduce how well the current one works upon returning to it. This compound happens to be the initial one I've tried in this category, and hunger is rarely an issue for me. My belly hasn't made any noises for the past quarter year, plus I find it tough to consume more than a calorie shortfall allows except right before the following dose.

LevelLantern55archiveMay 28
↳ replying to @SlowLedger31

I could give that a shot. Taking my amount early on left me feeling super famished.

About half a year back I tried that other one for just four weeks. This current version leaves me really hungry though and since it's only my second week maybe things will settle down soon.

PlainAlder11archiveMay 28

What quantity are you using right now?

SlowAnchor57archiveMay 28

My dose comes to three milligrams weekly in divided portions. I keep eating nonstop yet the pounds keep dropping off. My urge for anything sweet has vanished completely though.

PlainAlder11archiveMay 28
↳ replying to @LevelLantern55

Personally I stayed at each level for an entire month so the medication could accumulate inside me. That matched the pattern they followed during the research studies.

SlowTimber14archiveMay 28
↳ replying to @CopperMarble58 (opening post)

I stayed under 1.5 milligrams each week before cutting back to 0.75 a couple weeks back. Food noise was never something I dealt with anyway, so it still isn't a concern. Reactions to Reta look totally unique for each person. That kind of variation ends up being the one thing you can count on.

QuietAnchor73archiveMay 29

Been on this for nearly half a year now. Began with half a milligram and worked my way up to two point four total, split into two point one point two doses each week. Dropped thirty pounds along the way. Switched the schedule to twice weekly around the two-month mark once it became clear I no longer needed to push meals through on the final days of the prior cycle. In hindsight that shift probably marked my system settling into the lower calorie intake. Right now the effect still limits how much I can comfortably handle even though meals remain possible. A touch of hunger feels normal and fine, yet the compound keeps unwanted food thoughts from getting too loud. Bodies handle these things in their own ways and this option might not suit every person. Those wanting stronger hunger control sometimes find another compound works better instead. Everyone has to see what fits their own situation. Wishing the best for you and the cat.

This marks my initial attempt with these GLP compounds. For the first month I began using a 2 milligram dose, and on the day I wrote this I increased it to 4 milligrams.

Every now and then I get a hankering for barbecue sauce but prefer to avoid the remorse so I grab the sugarless spicy sweet kind and it really hits the mark.
