Everyone handles things differently. I have trained hard for more than sixty straight days with twenty-one heavy sets plus an hour of cardio each day. This past week I added a second hour of cardio on seven of the last eight days. With my current support I have still gained strength and muscle even while dropping almost twenty pounds. Ultimately you need to pay attention to how you feel. If the workouts are not declining you can continue pushing, otherwise more rest is needed.
I aim to hit the back side with squats or deadlifts during one workout, then Olympic lifts like snatches or clean and jerks in that same workout. Sometimes I add an extra move such as good mornings. I also try to include dumbbell shoulder press and some biceps work. After that comes core training done to failure with high effort, including negative sit-ups, inverted sit-ups, ab roller and side bends. I finish with cardio, usually heavy bag or shadow boxing. This feels like too much and doing it every other day leaves me worn out. I am considering dropping the cardio since it drains me most at the end, or else separating front and back body days entirely. Any thoughts from others?
