Retatrutide appetite loss duration, vial freshness, and treatment breaks

67 replies22 peopleMay 21, 2026☆ Follow
Summary

why reta appetite suppression fades after weeks and whether fresh vials, storage, or breaks restore it

Users report sudden weight drops after plateaus and stronger effects from new vials, while appetite suppression sometimes weakens around 28-30 days. Some attribute this to degradation and others to the drug's normal set-point behavior; consistent handling allows effects to last past eight weeks for certain users. A ten-week break reset fullness and food noise for one participant, and growth hormone is noted as a possible appetite confounder. Informal markers like urine clarity are mentioned alongside ongoing questions about batch differences and storage limits.

What this discussion establishesWhere people disagree

whether fading suppression is caused by degradation after 28-30 days or by the drug's normal set-point mechanics

Still open

batch variability, ideal storage duration, and whether interrupting treatment increases future immunogenicity risk

Nothing here is advice.

Been using reta around two months now and the results hit right away. At 4 mg the food noise and cravings were gone and I stayed satisfied longer. Over the past couple weeks though I can eat way more before getting full and the scale has stopped moving. The vial was 60 mg mixed with 3 ml bac water. I raised it to 5.5 mg but still no change in the last two weeks. Maybe the vial lost strength?

PlainAlder11archiveMay 21

Same thing happened with my 6 mg shots, went up to 7 and still nothing. Tried 8 mg last Friday and the reta feeling plus weight loss came back. That was from a fresh vial after using the old one for six weeks. With 3 ml bac in a 60 mg vial, your 5.5 mg dose would be about 28 units right?

WarmCinder36archiveMay 21
↳ replying to @PlainAlder11

Yeah I double-check with the calculator too because the ocd kicks in. Was that 8 mg from the same vial or did you mix a new one? This at least makes me think it might not be just me.

PlainAlder11archiveMay 21
↳ replying to @WarmCinder36

Used two fresh vials mixed with 3 ml bac each, pinning 4.2 units for the 8 mg dose. We finished the previous strength and now do two vials at once up to the higher amount. My wife uses it as well.

I adjusted really fast and the effectiveness dropped off quick even when I went to 8-10 mg. It was odd because low doses worked great at first but once my body stopped responding the amount barely mattered.

ClearKettle38archiveMay 21
↳ replying to @KeenHarbour69

Exactly the same for me. Everything worked extremely well for three months then it just switched off. Even going up to 12 mg weekly did nothing after that. I started a six-week break about three weeks ago to see if it resets and will update later.

KeenHarbour69archiveMay 21
↳ replying to @ClearKettle38

It really is strange. Let me know how the break goes because I would like to hear if it actually resets things.

GreenMeadow54archiveMay 21

Tirzepatide stays stable after mixing and refrigerating for about 60 days before it starts dropping. Retatrutide is probably less stable so degradation around that mark would not surprise me. Trying a fresh vial might show a difference and others would want to know the outcome.

KeenHarbour69archiveMay 21
↳ replying to @GreenMeadow54

Good point. I tried new vials and even switched sources just in case but got the same result with little to no effect.

WarmCinder36archiveMay 22
↳ replying to @PlainAlder11

Understood. I am going to mix the new higher strength vial and use that to test. My wife is switching from sema to reta and I want her on a fresh one too. Very odd situation. I have a smaller kit arriving soon that I might mix right away to check if the issue is the vial or just me.

PlainAlder11archiveMay 22
↳ replying to @WarmCinder36

What starting amount are you planning for her and what size vial will you mix?

WarmCinder36archiveMay 22
↳ replying to @PlainAlder11

Mixing a 10 mg vial with 2 ml bac and starting at 0.5-1 mg. She is still on tesa from before. I do not want to go too high and overwhelm her but I have read that someone already on a glp-1 might not notice much at that low level.

SlowLedger31archiveMay 23

Same exact issue here. Bumped to 6 mg two weeks ago but had odd sides so dropped back to 4. Been adjusting calories up and down yet the weight keeps creeping up daily. Morning to night swings are now 5-6 pounds instead of the usual 2-4. Drinking a gallon of water, staying under 2500 calories in a deficit, hitting over 150 g protein, and doing heavy lifting five days a week plus cardio on rest days. Nothing moves. Lowest was 269 and now bouncing between 270-275. It is bizarre.

PatientHarbour61archiveMay 23
↳ replying to @GreenMeadow54

We do see notable degradation sometimes before the 60-day point with reta since it is not as stable as tirz. There is a difference though between purity low enough to be unsafe and purity so low it just reduces the effect. The degradation we notice is usually the first kind unless there is a big sterility problem which should not happen in two months with decent bac water.

WarmCinder36archiveMay 23
↳ replying to @SlowLedger31

I am also staying under my 2400 calorie limit while hitting protein and carbs. Training hard four days a week plus cardio on rest days but the weight is stalled. A new kit arrived so I will probably try that and see.

WarmCinder36archiveMay 23

I have read the same which is why I am wondering. This vial came from a place I used before I started ordering overseas myself. It was mixed with the standard bac water. Like I said I am going to try the new smaller vials I received to see if they feel stronger than the current 60 mg one.

PatientFenwick91archiveMay 23

Interesting how many people are reporting similar things. I am on 6 mg with zero appetite suppression and have not really lost weight the whole time though there has been some recomp after adding gh. The past month has been rough because reta seems to increase my appetite. Left alone I could eat a whole cake in one sitting. The vial is fresh and was tested and filtered.

WarmCinder36archiveMay 23

I took 7 mg this week and still get full fast but also get hungry fast again. Nothing like that first 4 mg dose.

PatientFenwick91archiveMay 23
↳ replying to @WarmCinder36

Same here. I am always hungry. The strongest suppression was at 1 mg in the first couple weeks and it has never been the same since.

WarmCinder36archiveMay 23
↳ replying to @PatientFenwick91

I would not mind the hunger so much but being in a deficit with stalled weight makes me wonder if it just is not working anymore. At 4 mg I had more energy and no daytime crashes and now I am not getting those reta benefits. Or maybe it is all in my head.

PlainAlder11archiveMay 23
↳ replying to @PatientFenwick91

How long do you plan to stay at the current doses? I believe in four weeks at each level. Wait until you reach 8 mg because that is when things change.

SlowLedger31archiveMay 23

I have not been hungry in fifteen weeks. Started tracking calories at 2400 on the app because people keep repeating cico at me like it is new information.

WarmCinder36archiveMay 23
↳ replying to @PlainAlder11

I did jump up this week faster than usual. Previously I waited about two weeks or until hunger and food noise returned which happened around two weeks at 4 mg.

BrightSignal76archiveMay 23

I added cagri a few months back and titrated to 1.7 along with 8 mg reta but I am still plateaued. Not gaining is sort of a win. I do not want to raise reta higher because sides start over 8 mg. Being a non-responder is tough. Hopefully warmer weather will help burn more calories with more time outside.

PlainAlder11archiveMay 23
↳ replying to @WarmCinder36

A lot of you want to rush the dose increases. Let the last dose build up in your system first.

WarmCinder36archiveMay 24
↳ replying to @PlainAlder11

You are right. But when I reached 4 mg after titrating from 0.5 it worked immediately.

QuietAnchor73archiveMay 24
↳ replying to @PatientHarbour61

One reta container showed up as unusual in the analysis. I believe they came from one batch, though I might be incorrect.

SlowLedger31archiveMay 24
↳ replying to @PlainAlder11

I waited four weeks between each increase. Once at 4 mg I stayed there about six weeks to be sure I was comfortable. When I went to 6 mg I got some odd heart rate issues so dropped back to 4. Was not rushing at all.

SlowThistle29archiveMay 24
↳ replying to @PatientFenwick91

I just heard a podcast where someone said they got extra hungry at a higher dose of reta and it worked better at a smaller dose.

PatientFenwick91archiveMay 24
↳ replying to @PlainAlder11

I have been on reta almost six months and stayed at each dose for exactly four weeks before going up by 1 mg. Now on week two of 6 mg and the noise and hunger are stronger than before I started. Interesting point but going back down does not seem like the answer at this stage. I will switch to cagri soon. Was going to give reta one more try at 6 mg but at this rate I will eat everything in the house.

PlainAlder11archiveMay 24
↳ replying to @SlowThistle29

Completely wrong. I just did my second 8 mg and it killed my appetite. Much different than the 2-6 mg range. I am still eating because I need to but get full extremely fast.

WarmCinder36archiveMay 24

From what I am seeing my vial is definitely degraded. Reconstituted reta with bac water lasts about 28-30 days when stored right in the fridge. I am well past that so I need a higher dose that is less effective to feel anything. Larger vials do not store well for long periods unless you are using bigger doses. I will use my last new 60 mg vial and share it with my wife so it gets used within 28 days. I will also lower my dose since the new vial should be full strength. After this I will stick to 10-20 mg vials.

QuietAnchor73archiveMay 24
↳ replying to @KeenHarbour69

They could be from different sources which would support staying away from cheap no-name options.

KeenHarbour69archiveMay 24
↳ replying to @QuietAnchor73

For sure. That is always sound advice.

WarmCinder36archiveMay 31

Update: I tossed the rest of the old 60 mg vial and mixed the last fresh one with 3 ml for both me and my wife. Pinned 5 mg last week and felt it way more than the 6.5 mg from the other vial. Basically got all the original feelings back like slower digestion, fuller feeling, lower appetite and no food noise. My wife feels the same but with some slight nausea after the shot. Still pinning every sixth day.

↳ replying to @WarmCinder36

I appreciate the information. Variations exist across sources, containers, fill levels, and product breakdown. Perhaps certain versions lose potency quicker than the rest. My previous supply performed exceptionally well. The current one comes from another provider and isn't delivering comparable effects. Despite keeping my eating habits identical with no adjustments, I put on four pounds in fourteen days. I raised the amount by one milligram. Should this fail to improve things, I'll switch to an alternate supply stored in the freezer. If that yields nothing either, I'll revert to my initial product source. Fortunately, I've reached my target body mass, making minor weight shifts irrelevant. The belt remains fastened at the smallest notch I created.

PlainAlder11archiveJun 6

I have said the same about one of my sources two products. The lower and mid strengths. He usually lists the maker and this stuff hits hard, almost too much. Funny thing is it does not affect my wife at all.

WarmCinder36archiveJun 7
↳ replying to @PlainAlder11

My wife just started feeling it and it hit her hard. It was funny because it was the second dose with the new vial that must have built up on her. I also have her pinning every six days. The little to no appetite and food noise are working great but I have to remind her to hit her protein. It is still working for me too. I am curious to try reta from the new batches from other sources that had good reviews and testing to see if it hits different.

SlowLedger31archiveJun 7

Just checking in on the thread. After my last note the scale crept up a little before suddenly dropping more than seven pounds. These flat periods make about as much sense as a David Lynch movie plot. Mostly water I figure.

QuietTimber13archiveJun 7

I moved from 3 mg up from 2 mg and it felt like it was doing almost nothing for the past couple weeks. This week I went to 4.5 mg using a fresh vial and wow the week has been rough, that 1.5 mg jump feels like too much. Maybe I shook the previous vial too much during mixing though that is not usually an issue for me, might be worth grabbing another vial to test.

PlainAlder11archiveJun 7
↳ replying to @QuietTimber13

No need to throw the vial away and you did not shake it too hard. Some batches just behave differently. I calculate my mix using the actual measured volume in the vial rather than the label.

WarmCinder36archiveJun 7
↳ replying to @SlowLedger31

Appreciate the update, I have heard similar stories and someone on this thread mentioned getting nothing at certain doses then jumping to 8 mg and feeling it again. My wife is clearly losing and her waist is getting smaller. On the shaking question, what exactly did you do when you mixed it? I just let the BAC water run down the side and then roll the vial until it clears.

WarmCinder36archiveJun 7
↳ replying to @PlainAlder11

Like others said here, hold off on tossing it unless you are well past the 28 to 30 day point after mixing.

PlainAlder11archiveJun 7
↳ replying to @WarmCinder36

Right, I will keep a vial going for ten weeks after mixing but have not gone beyond eight weeks yet. This current batch is set for seven doses at 8 mg, four already done and three left, so seven weeks total.

AmberSignal47archiveJun 7
↳ replying to @SlowLedger31

A two to four pound swing from morning to night is pretty normal. I see the same drop overnight. It is a known thing with weight loss and body recomp, nothing to stress over. The whoosh effect describes that sudden overnight drop after a plateau when the body releases retained water from shrinking fat cells.

IronLantern24archiveJun 7
↳ replying to @AmberSignal47

This happened to me not long ago. I only dropped two pounds over three weeks then suddenly lost two pounds in three days.

BrightSignal76archiveJun 8

Water intake matters a lot with these meds. I aim for enough that my urine runs clear. Cloudy urine suggests it is working while bright yellow points to dehydration. Someone shared a video from compounders saying agitation is a myth, your body would fall apart if running shook up all your natural peptides. I carry mine upstairs daily without padding and sometimes they sit out twenty minutes. There is as much bad info on peptides as on politics. Before I switched to grey market my stuff came already mixed via UPS with maybe an ice pack and sat on the porch in summer heat yet worked the same as fresh powder from the freezer. Fast breakdown starts at 40 C. It does lose strength in the fridge faster than expected though.

NorthSparrow68archiveJun 8

Degradation of reta is real. Mixing a fresh batch and you notice the difference fast. I once used an oversized vial for ten weeks and the final three weeks were just willpower. The next fresh mix felt very different. Mine stayed in the fridge the whole time and the 28 day rule seems accurate for this compound.
