What do you eat in a day on Tirz/Reta?

48 replies36 peopleJun 3, 2026☆ Follow
Summary

What do people typically eat in a day while taking Tirzepatide or Retatrutide for weight loss?

Users report highly variable intake shaped by strong appetite suppression, with most prioritizing 100-200g protein daily through shakes, chicken, eggs, yogurt and cottage cheese while cutting carbs and portions. Many describe two-meal structures or near-fasting on injection days, and several note they ate far larger quantities of snacks, breads, and restaurant food before starting. Side effects force some into very low calories, prompting advice to split doses or lower them.

Been using Tirz around three months and dropped roughly twenty pounds while mostly exercising and watching food choices. Curious what others actually consume day to day on these meds. Would be helpful to hear what a typical day looked like at peak weight too, to gauge how much hunger really gets reduced.

LevelSignal57archiveJun 4

Starting with my own routine. Morning is a homemade adult lunchable with three ounces of turkey, one cheese slice, some blueberries, a baby cucumber and ranch. Midday is a protein shake plus banana. Evening is grilled chicken over salad.

LevelFenwick53archiveJun 4

Basically nothing but air and thoughts, though it shifts depending on how aggressive the cut is at the moment. One recent stretch had a protein bar and shake for breakfast, two or three chicken breasts with boiled vegetables at lunch, and a sandwich or yogurt for dinner. Drank tons of zero-calorie soda plus a gallon of water. I track macros closely and add extra shakes to hit protein targets. A lot of people on these meds seem to skimp on protein and end up looking flat.

NorthCinder83archiveJun 4

After a year on Tirz I added protein shakes in place of breakfast because I heard these meds can eat into muscle. Never exercised and was retired. Switched to reta once Tirz stalled, now nearing the two-year mark with a hundred pounds gone. Portions are smaller across the board and I also use Cagri which adds nausea so appetite stays low. Carbs are down over seventy-five percent with emphasis on protein plus antioxidant fruits and vegetables. Four pounds from goal and ketones stay high, showing protein is solid. Cutting calories beats trying to burn them off.

GreyAlder46archiveJun 4

Injection day and the next day I can barely eat anything. The rest of the week stays at bare minimum because GI side effects are rough and appetite is gone. Trying to push through eight weeks but at week six I'm not sure I can finish the last two.

SlowLantern98archiveJun 4

Down thirty pounds on Tirz and never went above 3.5 mg. Coffee with a few sips of cream in the morning, no full cup since February. Around ten a protein shake with collagen, sometimes eggs. One o'clock is salad with chicken or cottage cheese with berries or mango. Another shake at three. Dinner is grilled fish or chicken with a big salad or vegetables, occasionally sweet potato. Evening brings one more protein drink and Greek yogurt with fruit. Only water all day. Before this I snacked constantly with no structure, lots of nuts, sweets, hearty breads with butter, random dinners including pizza or Mexican with chips and sangria, plus more alcohol.

AmberQuill88archiveJun 4

Nineteen pounds down on Reta in May. One Factor meal daily with forty-five grams protein and twenty carbs. Breakfast smoothie mixes AG1, creatine, BCAAs, sixty grams whey, L-Carnitine and green banana powder. Smaller thirty-gram protein smoothie at lunch then fast the rest of the day. Totals around one hundred forty grams protein, fifty carbs and eleven hundred calories plus lots of water.

GreyCompass75archiveJun 4

Morning shake with fifty grams protein powder at three hundred eighty calories plus coffee. Lunch is some kind of bean dish around four to five hundred calories with forty grams protein. Snack bar or drink for twenty to twenty-five grams protein. Dinner aims for eight hundred to a thousand calories and fifty grams protein. Evening snack of one to two hundred calories of whatever.

IronKettle76archiveJun 4

Breakfast is yogurt, a cup of berries and protein powder for fifty grams total protein. Lunch is three or four cans of sardines giving sixty to seventy grams. Dinner is chicken thighs with skin, ground beef or steak for another fifty to seventy grams. Cottage cheese or nuts top off the two-hundred-gram daily protein goal.

GreenQuill84archiveJun 4

Coffee and supplements for breakfast. Lunch is three eggs, cottage cheese and two sausage patties or bacon. Snack is a perfect amino bar or shake. Dinner is a huge amount of chicken, steak or ground beef with arugula, broccoli or asparagus and sometimes sweet potato. Cashews get snacked on all day even though portions probably get too big.

SlowThistle36archiveJun 5

Coffee, supplements and meds in the morning. No real lunch. Dinner is chicken thigh, burger or lean steak with rice or sweet potato. Lately the sweet tooth for pizza, cookies and ice cream sandwiches has been intense, maybe from dose increases.

ClearQuill84archiveJun 5

Same thing every day. Mostly protein with carbs kept minimal. Fats come from avocado and clarified butter for cooking. Two meals total. First rotates cottage cheese, three eggs, one hundred fifty grams chicken breast and thirty grams whey isolate. Second is chicken or turkey breast, sometimes lean mince, with avocado, berries or raspberries and another thirty grams whey mixed with chia and skyr.

Have you thought about splitting the dose in half twice a week instead? Same problems hit me and splitting fixed everything inside a week.

NorthWillow36archiveJun 5

Coffee, protein shakes with banana and peanut butter, soft-boiled eggs often, some kimchi, a burger for dinner, limited vegetables and handfuls of nuts. That pattern repeats daily at sixteen to nineteen hundred calories. Six foot four, two hundred seventy now from three hundred one three months ago, aiming for two hundred sixty in six to eight weeks and two hundred forty when I want to look jacked.

GreenQuill96archiveJun 5

Nine a.m. protein shake of forty to fifty grams, half right away and the rest before ten a.m. meetings. Two p.m. four to six ounces chicken or turkey plus a Fuji or Honeycrisp apple. Seven p.m. grilled chicken over spinach or arugula salad, sometimes Greek yogurt with peanut butter granola.

Not often. Was carnivore almost three years before starting Reta.

WarmWillow50archiveJun 6

Calories aren't tracked. Focus stays on protein from mostly whole foods that could be picked, pulled or killed. Homemade shakes help top up if daily intake looks low.

PatientCompass47archiveJun 6

Cutting now at fifty-one, five foot nine, two hundred two pounds two weeks ago down to one hundred ninety five today on three milligrams reta weekly plus two hundred milligrams testosterone cypionate. Seventeen hundred calories on non-lift days, eighteen hundred on lift days, one hundred ninety to two hundred grams protein. Staples are no-sugar Greek yogurt with blueberries, protein drinks and homemade lunch and dinner. Everything weighed and tracked. Low carb but protein is the only macro watched closely. Seventy pounds already lost on tirz since February twenty twenty five and holding steady for six to eight months while fine-tuning. Never expected abs at fifty-one.

NorthWillow14archiveJun 6

Around two thousand calories from three meals plus one shake or bar. Girlfriend preps meals weekly. Current rotation includes breakfast burritos with eggs and whites, chicken sausage, ground beef and cheese, Italian-marinated chicken thighs with potatoes and carrots, teriyaki chicken thighs with green beans and sweet potatoes.

PlainFenwick44archiveJun 6

On tirz and before that I eat only twice daily, lunch between eleven and one, dinner five to seven. Meals stay consistent with small variations. Main plate is baked sweet potato and sautéed vegetables like broccoli, mushrooms, onions, peppers, kale or Brussels sprouts. Protein powder gets mixed into mashed avocado as sauce along with tahini, teriyaki or mayo. Dessert is cashews and a homemade yogurt-style mix of mashed bananas, peanut butter, protein powder, cinnamon, vanilla, almond milk and full-fat coconut milk plus fruit such as blueberries, strawberries or watermelon. Portions are tiny and food is often left over because fullness hits fast. Just started recently and still feel oddly worried about starvation despite the small amounts.

What dose of tirz are you on? Might need to be lowered.

NorthWillow72archiveJun 7

One of my favorite things to eat while losing, though at maintenance now so haven't made it lately. Would add hot sauce, gumbo file and green onions on top.

SteadySparrow75archiveJun 7
↳ replying to @KeenBramble31

Yeah probably. Goal with tirz is comfortable first two or three days with some burping but decent appetite and portion control, then a bit more food noise a few days before the next shot. Could never handle the level of restriction described.

AmberAlder67archiveJun 7

Carnivore about ninety percent of the time. Once a week or so a few carbs at one meal and maybe two straight drinks on the rocks, though not every week.

GreyCinder69archiveJun 8
↳ replying to @LevelSignal57 (opening post)

Mine is probably not ideal but it is one cup egg whites, one cup whole milk, one to two scoops protein, six ounces Walmart rotisserie chicken without skin, half cup cottage cheese with a little hot sauce. At night another shake or more chicken with a potato.

LevelSignal57archiveJun 8

Sounds like protein goals are being crushed, that's great. Any fruit or vegetables at all?

Before starting at three hundred thirty and climbing, work began with thirty-two ounces coffee mixed with hot chocolate packets, then double-portion Mexican or Asian lunches from nearby carts, leftovers at home before family arrived, dinner with everyone and a sweet snack, all chased with zero-sugar drinks. Now two months in at three hundred ten and dropping, work starts with a cafe-latte protein shake, lunch is turkey sandwich or another shake, pre-dinner another shake with fruit or tuna, dinner is stir-fry vegetables in sesame oil with tofu and rice or chicken breast and vegetables, often split across days because appetite is gone and protein must be prioritized.

RustPebble50archiveJun 8

Three months on Reta at two to three milligrams twice weekly. Breakfast is usually two scoops grass-fed whey, one cup frozen fruit, one cup skim milk, one scoop collagen, one cup ice and one banana blended into a forty-ounce shake at five hundred eighty-five calories and sixty-eight grams protein. At least one hundred ounces water daily. Hunger returns around three or four p.m. for a prepped meal of four ounces rotisserie chicken, five ounces potatoes, one tablespoon butter, half cup green beans and plenty of salt. Apple and string cheese for snacks, evening protein yogurt drink if needed. Target thirteen hundred to sixteen hundred calories and one hundred to one hundred fifty grams protein.

RustPebble50archiveJun 8

Four hundred seventy-six calories and thirty-seven grams protein. Usually the same meal every day.

IronLantern48archiveJun 8

Breakfast is some kind of protein-enriched baked oats with lots of fiber. Lunch is meal-prepped hearty soup or rice, beans and chicken for work. Dinner varies but tries to include protein and a carb.

GreyCinder69archiveJun 9
↳ replying to @LevelSignal57

Yeah sometimes a banana or apple. Never vegetables though, just never liked them.

KeenPebble10archiveJun 9

Fifty-three male, started at three hundred seventeen now two hundred sixty-seven. Typically seventeen hundred to nineteen hundred calories. Breakfast two eggs in grass-fed butter and a protein shake. Lunch steak salad with three ounces steak, avocado, blue cheese, tomato and vinaigrette. Dinner steak or chicken with sweet potato.

WarmMarble80archiveJun 11

Depends on the day. Breakfast two whole-wheat English muffins with turkey sausage, high-protein yogurt and berries. Lunch a store premade salad and maybe a protein shake. Dinner whatever crockpot meal is on rotation. Usually sixteen to seventeen hundred calories. Weekends sometimes skip the salad and just do a shake, adding vegetables to chicken and rice instead.

RustLantern55archiveJun 11

All these replies make it clear I'm not eating enough and just forget meals, same as before tirz thanks to ADHD. Breakfast nothing, lunch usually nothing, dinner whatever the family gets and only if it is exactly right or I pick at it. Nothing processed or junky, basically only fresh vegetables and chicken or salmon with brown rice or I skip. Good days mean eggs in the morning and Brussels sprouts, green beans, asparagus and salmon at night. Hate protein shakes and bars, dislike the texture of fruit, love vegetables, meat and homemade bread. Take a whole-food multivitamin but still need to sort this out because the kids eat constantly and exhaustion is real.

Breakfast two protein bars and a shake. Lunch eight ounces chicken, two cheese sticks, two hard-boiled eggs and half cup carrots. Dinner eight ounces ground beef, one cup broccoli, three eggs and three hundred grams white rice, maybe dessert. This is for work days with heavy freight handling and fifteen thousand plus steps. Off days differ but everything is tracked in MyFitnessPal aiming for two hundred grams protein daily out of fear of muscle loss.

LevelSignal57archiveJun 12
↳ replying to @RustLantern55

You do have to eat or muscle mass will be lost, which is not ideal.

RustLantern55archiveJun 12
↳ replying to @LevelSignal57

Absolutely. Not a great spot. Actively trying to eat more just to have energy for daily life. The exhaustion is real.

QuietSignal61archiveJun 12

Nothing. Lowering the dose.

RustPebble50archiveJun 13
↳ replying to @RustPebble50

Should have given the full picture. Usually a two-scoop whey protein shake with fruit and skim milk for breakfast at sixty-eight grams protein and five hundred fifty calories. Eighty ounces water through the day. No lunch, then three or four p.m. the prepped chicken meal. Later an apple, maybe light string cheese, and before bed a twenty-gram Chobani yogurt drink for better sleep. Under sixteen hundred calories and over one hundred grams protein daily.

What did that diet consist of? Do you feel nutrients are missing without vegetables? Also your comment sent me into a spiral where I asked chat gpt if eating vegetables is some Big Farmers scheme instead of Big Pharma. I was having a full meltdown.

Short version, never planned to try carnivore because it seemed extreme. After a two-week vacation up nearly twenty pounds I realized moderation was impossible so trigger foods like breads, pasta, cereal and desserts had to be removed entirely. Followed teachings from Dr. Ken Berry and Dr. Shawn Baker plus certain YouTube channels. Ate only beef, butter, bacon and eggs with zero fruit or vegetables for two and a half years. Cheese was limited once its effect on weight became clear. All under doctor supervision with bloodwork every five to six months and a recent colonoscopy, everything fine. One low vitamin C reading led to supplementation that fixed it. Ate zero fiber for two and a half years with no major issues.

Multi-day fasting helped a lot once on Reta. Lost sixty pounds with thirty-six hour fasts for over a year and occasional seventy-two hour ones. Slipped and regained half, then restarting didn't work the same, maybe metabolism got messed up. Fasting is still great and won't be dropped completely. Learned heavy protein and fiber from it to keep muscle, which made the Reta learning curve easier. GLP-1s are simpler than the discipline fasting required.

PatientAlder45archiveJun 16

Vegetarian on reta with limited appetite suppression so could eat this every day. Breakfast twelve grams chia seeds hydrated in water then mixed with two hundred grams three-percent fromage blanc, ninety grams sugar-free apple-strawberry compote or fresh fruit and thirty-five grams whey. Lunch two hundred fifty grams air-fried green beans, one hundred fifty grams firm tofu stir-fried with oil and soy, seventy grams cooked chickpeas and thirty grams mozzarella. Snack coffee with one hundred milliliters soy milk plus one hundred milliliters regular milk, or a homemade protein muffin if hungry. Dinner egg salad sandwich of three whole eggs, two tablespoons fromage blanc, one tablespoon mustard, optional chives and one slice sourdough. Daily totals sixteen hundred four calories, one hundred thirty-five point six grams protein, sixty-five point seven grams fat, one hundred nineteen point nine grams carbs with twenty-seven point one grams fiber. Fiber matters as much as protein.

SteadyKettle52archiveJun 16

On tirzepatide since early April, started at one hundred forty-nine kilograms now one hundred twenty-six. Breakfast five hundred grams Greek yogurt and five hundred grams berries usually blueberry, strawberry or raspberry. Lunch three hundred fifty grams chicken or fish with cucumber, paprika, tomato and carrot. Dinner the same as lunch. A few days ago relapsed with a whole pizza margherita and several fudge brownies.

SharpHarbour92archiveJun 17

Eat the same things daily because it's easy. Morning two eggs with about one hundred milligrams sourdough toast. Greek yogurt snack a couple hours later, especially since dose went to six milligrams, usually with a carb like more sourdough. Lunch chicken thigh or red meat from the prior dinner with rice or potato. Another Greek yogurt and carb snack. Dinner repeats the chicken or red meat with potatoes or rice. Final Greek yogurt and carb snack. Around twenty-three to twenty-five hundred calories, one hundred ninety to two hundred ten grams protein, rest carbs and fat.
